Pont’s Ponderings
Proclaiming the Gospel! Living In Christ! Caring for Our Neighbors!
Pontoppidan Lutheran Church February 2016 Pontonline.org
Dear righteous Lord, we enter the holy season of Lent
confessing our many sins that separate us from you.
We’re sincerely sorry for offending you repeatedly
through our thoughts, our words and our actions — and
often through our inactions, too.
Forgive us, Lord, and show us your tender mercy. Restore
and strengthen us to become your faithful and faith-filled
servants. During our Lenten journey, remind us to show
mercy to other people, just as you’ve shown mercy to us.
Amen.

Supper at 5:30 pm

From Pastor Doug
What’s Faith Got to Do With It?
I heard recently that a pastor at a funeral told grieving people that it is for moments like this that our
faith grows and becomes stronger through the years. That resonated with me.
Sitting beside my Dad at 11:45 PM on December 20, as Dad took his last breaths, I felt that we were
not alone. In that room at the nursing home we were a strong cord of three strands: Dad, me, and the
Holy Spirit. Faith has a lot to do with it.
Our theme for Lent this year is: What’s Faith Got to Do With It? Six members of our Pontoppidan
congregation will share what their faith means to them.
Four of the six shared their faith stories at a WELCA meeting last Fall, which I attended. I was so
impressed with their sharing that I asked them if they would share their stories again with the whole
congregation during Lent. They graciously agreed. We also added two others to share their stories.
The schedule is as follows:
This will be a very special Lenten season. I invite all members, as a part of our Lenten devotions this
year, to commit to attending all six Wednesday Lenten services. I believe we will be deeply blessed as
we follow Jesus, by hearing our neighbors share their stories of faith.
Ash Wednesday is February 10.
Freewill Supper served beginning at 5:30 PM.
Worship begins at 7 PM.
Have a delightful day!

Caring For Our Neighbors
There is lots of talk of love during the month of February;
here are some ways to show it!
-The Y Emergency Shelter is in need of calendars of any
kind
-Churches United very much needs men’s gloves and hand
warmers
If you can help, please put your donation in the labeled box
outside the church office.
-Non-perishable food items for the Emergency Food Pantry
may be left in the grocery cart.
God’s Blessings upon you, for all the ways you find to
share His Blessings with others!
