TEST PROCEDURE FOR ULTRASONIC TEST OF SHAFT1. Scope: This procedure gives the technique and acceptance standard for Ultrasonic Examination of Round Bars.2. Applicable Document:

ASME Section V Article 23 SA 388

ASME Section III NB 2542

PP-P-2012 Rev. 1

3. Personnel Qualification Requirement: Personnel carrying out UT shall be qualified to minimum Level II to UT as per the guidelines of SNT-RC-IA of ASNT or by ISNT.

4. Job Details:

Project:

Balance of Turbine Island Package Kakrapar Atomic Power Project 3 & 4

NPCIL PO No.: CMM/MEQ/23-40-2-1040/PO/6086 & 6087 dated 28/09/2011

Dodsal PO No.: 03/PEN/75/YAS/PO/057/059-00/13 dated 29.11.2013

Material EN-8

Size of Forging: 5. Surface Condition: Surface of the bars shall be smooth and free from dirt, loose scales etc. which may impaiur beam transmission.

6. Stage of examination: As rolled

7. Instrument: Pulse-echo type A scan display meeting the requirements of ASME Section V Article 5 regarding linearity. EEC Ex 10, Einstein II TFT or equivalent may be used that can work in the frequency range of 1 to 5 MHz.

8. Probe:Longitudinal Wave - 0 - 2 or 4 MHz 10 or 24 mm (Single type for > 50 mm)

Leensar / NDT / EEC / Modsonic make shall be used

Doc. No.: MES / R & DM / UT / Bars / 08-07-2014 Rev.1

9. Couplant: Oil which shall not contain sulphur or halides more than 250 ppm. Couplant used for calibration and examination shall be same.10. Calibration block: Reference specimen containing flat-bottomed holes of size mentioned in the Table at D, D and D shall be used. Reference specimen shall be made from the same material of same heat and heat treatment received. A reference specimen of diameter D shall be valid for diameter 0.9 D to 1.5 D.11. Calibration: Using appropriate range and gain, the indication from FBH at D of the reference specimen shall be brought to 80 5% FSH and marked. Without changing the setting, the indication from D and D shall be peaked to maximum and marked. Join these marks to obtain DAC which shall be the reference level.12. Scanning: Scanning shall be done 100% in radial direction with 10% overlap. Scanning shall be done at + 6 dB of reference level. Evaluation shall be done at reference level. Scanning speed shall not exceed than what is demonstrated for picking up reference reflector at + 6 dB of reference level. Scanning shall be done in axial direction using back wall echo technique from end face. Scanning shall be done at + 6 dB. Evaluation shall be at reference sensitivity.13. Acceptance Criteria: for Radial Scanning:

(a) Any indication of discontinuity exceeding reference level shall be not acceptable.

(b) Any indication of discontinuity causing complete loss of back echo shall be not acceptable

For Axial Scanning:

Any indication of discontinuity causing complete loss of back echo shall be not acceptable

14. Report: A report giving all relevant details including indications causing a reponse greater than 50% of reference level shall be furnished on completion of examination. Specimen Report format is attached.

15. Post Cleaning: Post cleaning shall be done with dry cloth and followed by solvent moistened cloth to remove all traces of cpuplant used for examination.TABLE
