SCROLLS OF HONOUR
Scrolls of Honour are presented to members of the Wynberg Boys’ High School community who have given
exceptional service to the school.
Mr Barry Jessop Dr David Green
DR DAVID GREEN
Dr David Green has the unusual honour of being elected to serve as Chairman on the Governing Bodies of all
four schools on the Wynberg campus. With his son matriculating in 2013, this brings this extraordinary period
of service to an end. However, as the outgoing Chairman, he will continue the tradition of serving the body in an
ex officio capacity.
Four years ago, he came onto the Body as Chairman of the Computer Committee. During this time, he has
helped to oversee a period of challenges and change in the I.T. sector. He has never been bullish in his ideas,
but suggested, guided, prompted. Today our IT department is innovative and pioneering, leading the way in a
period of change.
For the last two years, he has been Chairman of the Board. Knowledgable, supportive and always ready to back
new projects and ideas, his tenure saw many new projects – both physical and conceptual – rise from the
planning table to reach fruition.
He has enriched this school with his expertise, knowledge and limitless capabilities. He has always been willing
to share his wide depth of experience in so many areas of life. Whatever the calamity, he has always brought an
air of calmness and been the voice of quiet reason.
I have no doubt that the principals of all four Wynberg schools will join with me in applauding the singular
contribution to our Campus of a man who really understands the concept of selfless service.
MR BARRY JESSOP
Barry Jessop has served on the Governing Body of Wynberg Boys’ High School for the past five years. During
his son’s last year at school, he was elected Chairman and it says volumes for his commitment to this school that
he has volunteered to continue serving on the body, as an ex officio member even after his youngest son left
school.
Mr Jessop is a lawyer whose most important contribution to the Governing Body has been to the HR Committee
where he has brought his expertise in matters of the law to many of the issues which have confronted the Body.
His contribution to Wynberg over these years has been invaluable. He has helped draw up contracts, advised on
labour matters, conducted innumerable interviews.
He has served as Chairman of the Governing Body Disciplinary Committee – a role some boys in the school
would probably not remember with fondness. However, he has carried out this commitment with both
compassion and firmness – always mindful that he wears two caps – to marry what is in the best interests of the
errant boy with the best interests of the school at large.
Himself a CBC Old Boy, Barry Jessop has bought into and loyally supported the ideals of this school. He has
always been available to come to the school at a moment’s notice when called upon. His sage advice,
dependable support and total commitment have been hugely appreciated by myself and all who have served with
him.
Wynberg Boys’ High has been immensely enriched by his contribution over a number of years.
