secwity classification will be reviewed at least annually.

prisoners are classified to programs or work assig:rments based upon their RG&C recommendations, institutional needs and individual

interests. The prisoner wiil bi given a chance to participate in the process. Prisoners will be called out for orientation within seven

prisoners will be classified as UNEMPLoYABLE if 1) they refuse a work assimment or mandatory schooling, 2) if they refuse a

formal vocational course required as part of their work assignment or 3) if they exhibit irresponsible or disruptive behavior.

The Unit ARUS, RUO, School and Records Of6ce will be notified when a prisoner is being classified as I-INEMPLOYABLE. A

prisoner will remain SNEMpLOyABLE for a minimum of 30 calendar days, during which he will be confined to his celVarea of

control for the period of time stated on his Room Restriction Notice.

Upon completion of th'er3O days, the prisoner must seek reclassification in order to be placed on a work pool. In addition, the

Classification Director may assip u priroo"r to a work assignment due to institutional need/or school assisment due to his

educational requirements.

The menu will be posted weekly in each Unit. Prisoners assiped to early callouts may b9 assiped to an early chow callout. A meal

Your housing unit will be called when it is your unit's turn to report to the dining room. If you

are late, you may noi be permitted io eat. You have ten minutes to report 1e fts dining room after your Unit has been called.

ACADEMIC AND VOCATIONALAcademic and vocational classes are offered in the following areas:

- Adult Basic Education (ABE) Pre-GED (6* - 8* grade level)

- General Education Development (GED)- Pre-Release/Job Seeking Skills (levels 1 and2)- Building Trades (carpentry, plumbing, electical and blueprint reading) Qevel 2)

- Custodial Maintenance (required to be an institutional porter) (level2)

- Food Service Hospitality Management (formeriy known as Food Tech) (level2)

- Business Education Technology (level2)

Academic and vocational classes are held Monday through Friday, both in the morning and the afternoon (CMT will only be taught i::

the Afternoon at*). Students assip.ed to academic "lasses

will have exposure to computer-assisted learning. Students will attend

classes as assip.ed and will follow the school and classroom rules. Class assisments are made in accordance with the school waiting

iist for each level. Placement order is based on: Title One (students under 21), ERD date, Lifers.

Those individuals who refuse and/or are dropped from academic school will be placed on a 30 day room restriction and will be

resticted from the weight pit and gym usage until they are emolled in school.

The GED test is given every month. To be eiigible to take the GED test, a stucient must have a haif test score no iower ihan 44 in an1

individual subjeci area and an overall average score of 50. The classroom teacher with the Principal will recommend a student for the

GED test.

Building Trades, Food Service Hospitality Managemen! Custodial Maintenance and Business Education Technology classes require z

high scf,ool diploma or GED certificate. It is the prisoner's responsibility to provide proof of his high school diploma or GEt

certificate upon request by the school staff.

LIBRARY1.n" titruty has bools, magazines, newspapers, catalogs, audio tapes and videos for prisoners to check out and to use i:r the iibrary.

The Library has materials to meet the recreational reading interest of prisoners to support educational programming and for

independent learners at this facility.

Declaration of Ref,gious prlference Form, fill out the form and return it to the Chaplain who will then change the prisoner's religious

preference in CMIS and place him on callout. A change of religion may be made no more than twice in a year's time. There are no

visits allowed to religious service. A prisoner missingtwo t"-i"m in a row will be removed from the callout for a minimum of four

weeks and must contact the Chaplain to be put back on.

Groups with attendance of less than three (3) prisoners for two weeks il a row will be suspended for a minimum of four (4) weeks and

untii five (5) prisoners contact the Chaplain requesting the service be restarted. Five (5) or more prisoners must be in attendance at the

first scheduied restart meeting or the group service will be immediately suspended'

Each religious group with regular services is allowed one special observance per year. The proposal must be received by the chaplain

no less than 30 days before tie requested date. outside catering is not allowed. Special meals will not be provided by Food Service.

Store items that do not require preparation (such as heating) may be provided by the religious group members. Food in unsealed

packages may not be taken Uact to the housing units. Locked cabinets or lockers are available for individual religious groups in all

levels.

A:r Islamic seminar led by volunteers from the Greater lslamic Center of Detoit and a Christian seminar called a Keryx Weekend are

both normally heid twice yearly for Level IL A-nnouncements are posted in the housing units when the sem.inats are scheduled.

Seminars and rel-igious evlnts are open to prisoners of any faith. Keryx holds montirly and weekiy meetings for prisoners who have

been through a Wiekend. Prisoners may possess religious propelty only for their identified religion.

avaiiable. Up to four Greeting Cards pir month may be requested depending on availability. Kite the Chaplain stating what type of

prisoners when available.

Some prisoner Benefit Fund money is budgeted through the Chaplain for religious group use, such as materials or photocopying. It is

requested that purchased or photocopied materiats be for ongoing group use so that resources are built up over time.

callouts to the Chaplain's office.

prisoners wishing to be married must write to the Chaplain. The Chaptain will send the prisoner a worksheet and two marriage

pamphlets: one io be sent to the prisoner's fianc6e at the prisoner's expense. The worksheet-must be completed and retumed to the

prisoners wishing to apply for a special diet listed in MDOC Policy must kite the Chaplain asking for a Diet Interview. After the

interview is completed it will be sent to the Special Activities Director [Conectionallacilities Arlminist'ation] in Lansing and the

Director will decide whether that prisoner qualifies for the special diet requested. If the request is denied' the prisoner may apply to

take the interview again in no less than one year.

GENERAL CONDUCT - DISCIPLINARY AND GRIEVANCE PROCESS

may follow the estabiished grievance procedure.There are adminiskative rulis, policy directives, operating procedures and posted ruies that tell who does what, when and how. Posted

rules are in the housing units, schooi, Wm,yaril dining room and visiting room. It is your responsibilify to be aware of those rules that

affect you. The Library has all othei rules, policies, procedures, etc. for review. If there are any questions or explanations needed,

contact a staffmember.

GRTEVANCE PROCESSp."t pD a"d Op O: OZ l3g;'Frisoneriparolee Grievances", prisoners may submit grievances regarding violations of policy or procedwe

or unsatisfactory conditions of confnement which directly affect the grievant. A grievaut is permitted to grieve only one issue per

grievance form. Grievances also may be filed in accordance with OP 03 02 130-A "State Administrative Board Prisoner Properly

Reimbursement" if the grievant is seeking reimbursement for property lost or destroyed while in the Deparhent's sole possession.

Grievance may not be filed direct$ to Step Itr for any reason. A1l grievances must be filed at Step L If you il's filing a grievance

because of the conduct which falls under the jurisdiction of the Internal Affairs Division, you may file that grievance either with the

Step I Grievance Coordinator or the Inspector. (See PD 01.01.140 "lntemal Affairs" regarding what conduct falls uirder the jurisdiction

of the Internal Affairs Division.)

The grievant shall attempt to resolve the issue with staffbefore writing a grievance and indicate this attempt on the space provided on

the grievance form. If you are contacting someone in writing, allow a reasonable amount of time for a response'

will attempt to answer questions regarding your time computation.

If requested in writing, the Records Office will provide a letter verifying your incarceration which you may use to clear up pending

legal matters such as

exchanged. lt is the prisoner's responsibility to have unit staffverify lost items prior to submitting a request for new state issue. The

euafiefuaster will ptace prisoneri on callout to view these items, determine if they have become unserviceable, and complete the

eichange. The prisoner will then be called out up to two business days later to pick the exchange, if it cannot be completed at that time'
