On Carnival Day, I helpedCumberhills W.I. providerefreshments in themarquee as a service to thepeople attending and as afund raiser for ourcharitable objectives.Unfortunately, our day and, from comments received, thatof many spectators, wasspoiled by the highly

amplified noise coming froma nearby stage. This event is now billed asCarnival Day and MusicFestival but if the “Music”dominates to such an extentthese two purposes are totallyincompatible.From:- Jo Minor, 13 GilbertCrescent, Duffield.

Duffield Parish Council News Letter - Issue No. 35(July 2006)

Welcome to the new look Duffield Parish CouncilNewsletter. Over the next few months we will be publishingarticles from Councillors to give you an insight of the work

conducted by the Council.

Our first contribution is from Mr Tony Woodings,

Chairman of the Parish Council:

As the newly appointed Chairman I am reallypleased to have taken on my role at a time when there is somuch happening in our ever growing village. As well as improving access to the Council through the new

Parish Office, we are also changing the way that we work to

ensure that we can offer the best possible service.

We feel that it is important that we are proactive in the

development of the village, as well as continuing in the

maintenance and upkeep of the village’s assets.

The Parish Office at the Weston Centre has been running for

several weeks now, and it has been very positive that not only

have we had numerous visitors, but we have also activated the

repairs to a number of roads and footpaths.

In future we will be publishing dates for when Councillors will

be available at the office, but if you wish to contact the Council

you can always visit the office and speak with the Clerk, SallyBygraves during opening hours 10.00am – 12.00noonMonday and Wednesdays. The new Council structure sees the Open Spaces and Footpath

Committees combining to form a new RecreationalCommittee. This will improve focus on all leisure activities in

the village, and will boost the importance of walking and foot

paths in the village.

The newly created Strategy Committee will be working

closely with the Parish Plan Group and the Duffield Community

Association to improve leisure facilities of the village with the

money allocated from the new housing developments.

This money had been made available to the village as a result of

planning clauses called section 106 agreements, which means

that the builder must contribute financially to the social and

leisure development of the village.

As a council we feel it very important that this money is used

wisely and efficiently, and wherever possible it will be used to

support other grant money to give us the maximum value

possible.

The Cemetery and Finance and General Purposes will

continue in their traditional roles in ensuring that the finances

and assets of the village are maintained and that the Council are

able continue to offer cemetery facilities to all residents.

Over the next few months each of the chairmen of the

committees will contribute an article on this page explaining

the role of their committee and the initiatives that they are

moving forward.

In addition to the Councillors, Sally, David Guy at thecemetery and Michael Forkin the Village Warden, there area number of volunteers who have helped the Council formany years. Their contributions will be highlighted in future newsletters.

**************************************************

A theme of many enquiries at the Parish Council is the newrecycling and bin system operating in the village. We have contacted Amber Valley for their comments: They said“Unfortunately the green bin service will not be operating thisyear, due to the low number of households willing to pay for theservice.” They have indicated that this may be reviewed next year, sohave your say by contacting the Recycling Manager at AmberValley Borough Council, Town Hall Ripley, Derbyshire, orcalling 01773 570222.

**************************************************

With regard to the recycling boxes and wheelie bincollections we have reported many of the problems that youhave brought to our attention, including the hygiene andweight of the recycling boxes. Amber Valley have said there are no plans to change this servicefor the foreseeable future. If you are unhappy with this or needassistance carrying your boxes or moving your bin you cancontact Environmental Service on 01773 841326 who may beable to help you. Alternatively you may wish to lobby your Amber ValleyCouncillor directly to voice your concerns.

**************************************************

The condition of footpath and road ways is also areoccurring theme amongst residents and the Council hasbeen out taking photographs and logging reports withDerbyshire County Council on your behalf. Over the last two weeks potholes on Wirksworth Road andEcclesbourne Close have been attended. If you have potholes please report them on 10629 580000.

**************************************************

The Parish Council has been granted a Licence for Music,Dancing and Entertainment on Eyes Meadow, following asuccessful appeal against Amber Valley. Full details are displayed in the Notice Board on Eyes Meadow.

Many domestic burglaries takeplace as a result of an insecureproperty or sneak-in and maylead to an insurance companyrejecting a claim. Burglaries can have a hugeimpact on people’s lives and yetby improving security, residentscan reduce the chance that theybecome victims of sneak-in crimein the future.Typically, the number of sneak-inburglaries increases during thesummer months so please beaware that open and unlockeddoors and windows are easytargets for burglars. Remember if you are out in thegarden or just in another part ofyour house make sure the rest of
