The first week of Level 1 has been very smooth and I have been very impressed how everyone has adjusted. Our staff have done an outstanding job moving through the different levels over the last twelve weeks. We appreciate the support that parents and families have provided during this time. It has been very pleasing to notice the independence of a number of our students while we have been back at school. We have also noticed less congestion on our surrounding roads due to the positive adjustments many of our parents have made around drop offs and pickups. Thank you. Mid Year Reporting On 22-23 July we will hold Home/School Conferences. This is an opportunity to meet with child’s teachers and set goals for the remainder of the year and you will receive a short mid year report which outlines the progress your child has made. Please note this replaces the mid year report that has been in previous years. Term 3 events We are busily planning for Term 3 and this will mean a return to normal events at school. Junior and Senior assemblies will return along with Inter School Sports competitions, class trips and visiting shows. Please look out in the newsletter and school app for these dates in the coming weeks. The Tupuranga gardeners have been back in action after a long break. We had to weed our gardens and room 11’s garden had grown some gigantic radishes during the lockdown!

The gardeners have replanted their garden beds with a range of winter vegetables, such as, celery, silverbeet, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and parsley. We are looking forward to a delicious harvest.

The annual NZ Garden Bird Survey is coming up soon, from 27 June to 5 July. The Survey is an annual citizen science project organised by Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research.

People count the birds they see in their backyards. We will do some bird counting at school and we encourage you to get counting at home too. Taking part is really easy and a great way to connect with your local natural environment.

Please check out https://gardenbirdsurvey.landcareresearch.co.nz/ for more information.

Have you heard of Plastic Free July? It is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Will you be part of Plastic Free July by choosing to refuse single-use plastics?

Please visit https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/ to take up the challenge.

We have teamed up with Feels Good for an ongoing sustainable fundraising programme. Feels Good are a great place to support you in joining Plastic Free July. They have a range of products aimed at reducing single use plastic and a portion of the profits from each sale will be donated to our school. It’s a win-win!

Please visit www.feelsgood.nz to begin or continue on your zero waste journey.

Term 2 Week 10 17 June 2020

TEAM TALK – Whakatōtanga

The concoctions were placed on a marvellous oven provided by Mr Kelly and the magical spell was chanted!

‘Fiery broth and witch’s brew

Foamy froth and riches blue

Fume and spume and spoondrift spray

Fizzle swizzle shout hooray

Watch it sloshing, swashing, sloshing

Hear it hissing, squishing, spissing

Grandma better start to pray.’

Needless to say, no Grandmas or chickens were harmed in the making of this medicine!

The Whakatōtanga Team has been embracing the fun factor!

Room 9 finally completed reading George’s Marvellous Medicine written by Roald Dahl. We decided to make our own Magical Marvellous Medicine. We had to write all the ingredients down so we didn’t forget what was inside, as that can cause all sorts of mischief!
