Religious NewsDear Parents,

This week we celebrate the feast day of two very popular saints, St Patrick and St Joseph. Both were men of great courage and faith and wonderful examples for both men and women today. Pope John Paul II once said, “Saint Joseph is a man of great spirit. He is great in faith, not be-cause he speaks his own words, but above all because he listens to the words of the Living God. He listens in silence. And his heart ceaselessly perseveres in the readiness to accept the Truth contained in the word of the Living God.”

St Patrick also showed this perseverance, being captured by Irish raiders when he was about 16 and taken as a slave. After escaping, he returned home and was later ordained a bishop. He was known for explain-ing Christianity in a way that made sense to the Irish, in particular, using the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity.

These saints expressed their faith in different ways, one through evangelization and the other through the gentle strength of a father and husband. During this season of Lent, we are reminded that while our expressions of faith may vary, it is following the will of God in our lives and growing in closeness to Him that counts.

It is fitting that St Joseph is the patron saint of social justice. The St Joachim’s community is doing a wonderful job fundraising for Project Compassion. We have already raised enough money for one dairy cow! Congratulations! These funds help people such as Sarita from Nepal:

Have a blessed week,Kate

Our school will participate in the 2015 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) which provides assessment opportunities for students in years 3 - 7 in the areas of Computer Skills, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling and Writing. This year, ICAS have again extended the Mathematics, Science and English assess-ments to Australian students in Year 2. ICAS for Year 2 students will be sat on the same dates as students in year 3 –7.

Please refer to the email that was sent out to all families last week with further information about the tests including the dates and cost of the tests. The nomination form and payment must be received at the school office by Tuesday 31 March 2015.

If you have any queries regarding the tests please email me at [email protected] .

2015 School Photo Information Monday 30th March

Advanced Life Photography have indicated the following methods of ordering and payment for school photos. Their preference for our school is that Orders and Payments be made through the Web Portal as this reduces the administration and associated order issues related to the return of cash & envelopes on photo day.

To place your order visit www.advancedlife.com.au and enter the code- R5V D85 R9P.

A full set of instructions on how to order can be found on the back of the order flyer. The order code can also be found printed on the envelopes supplied by Advanced Life

Photography. Please be aware that-1. Sibling/Family Photos may be ordered online or via envelope. To ensure a smoothly run photography day, Online Orders for Sibling/Family Photos will be cut off 48hrs before our photography day to allow a list of students that require Sibling/Family photographs taken to be compiled. Sibling Photos can still be ordered after the Online cut off date by collecting an envelope from the office in the usual way and returning the envelope on photo day with payment enclosed.

2. All Online Orders should be placed on or before our day of photography. Please Note: Once orders are closed a LATE FEE will apply.3. The Online code above Web Portal may also be used to order previous years’ sports and other group photos at any time.

Sharing food for life

Mother of three, Sarita, could barely grow enough food for her family on her tiny farm plot. In 2007, she joined a program, run by Caritas Nepal, that gave a community group the training and support they needed to start a fish-raising business. Thanks to their hard work, Sarita and the group now have a thriving enterprise and a life-long source of food and income.

Your donation to Project Compassion 2015 helps people in rural Nepal create a life-long source of food and income to benefit entire communities.

PARISH MUSIC

Who me?Well, do you think music at Mass is important?

Absolutely!What can you do?

Who me???Yes, you!

I can sing in tune but so can everyone. No not everyone can, and we need more singers.

Who me? Yes, you! Look it’s time to stop thinking that others can keep the Church going. The parish needs both singers and keyboard players. Other instruments would be great too. Can you get a little group together who would provide music once a month? Would you like to join an existing group? Do you know anyone who isn’t even a Catholic but enjoys making music and might be interested? Take a risk, think creatively. So yes, I am talking to you, contact the parish office.
