There are plenty of ways to keep up to date with what’s happening at Belair Public School. The best way to know about what’s happening on a day to day basis is to get the Skoolbag APP.
The following link provides directions for iPhone and Android users:
http://skoolbag.com.au/forparents.php
The weekly newsletter is available through the APP as are weekly “what’s on” and other push notifications. If you don’t want the APP but would like emailed newsletters, a link for signing up to email is on the front page of the Belair School Website.
The website is in the process of being updated and the intention is for the website to be a somewhat static site with general information about the school and its programs as well as a place to investigate the school planning and improvement processes.
The Belair Facebook Page is generally a place for celebrating student achievement and activities. Urgent communications are also added to our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/BelairPS/
Different stage groups are using a variety of communication tools to let our community know more about our school. Information about these various means of communication will be provided by class teachers and periodically through the newsletter.
During Term 3 we aim to transition to an email / app only version of the school newsletter. If you have not yet opted out of a paper newsletter, please go to the link below and complete a simple Google form, or contact the school.

Kindergarten Transition Commences Wednesday August 3 The first major event in the Kindergarten Transition process happens this Wednesday evening commencing at 6.15pm. An information session is being conducted in the school hall for next year’s Kindergarten parents. This session is designed for Parents. We appreciate parents making other arrangements for children on the night if it is possible.
Olymp-a-thon In this Olympic year we are holding an alternative fundraiser to our regular jog-a-thon. Today students will be bringing home sponsorship cards for the event. Year 6 students are devising a range of modified Olympic sports to be undertaken when we hold the event in Week 8. All monies raised will be put towards the purchase of new fixed equipment for the playground. The school is currently considering several possible designs for the equipment and will involve students in the decision making process.
Water Safety Program ~ Thursday 18 August On Thursday 18 August, Belair will be hosting a Water Safety Program. This is a yearly event aimed at teaching students of all ages how to stay safe near water. The program is conducted by qualified Life Savers. The timetable for students from K–6 is below:
Years K–2 9.10am–9.40am Years 3–4 9.50am–10.20am Years 5–6 10.30am–11am
Dance Festival Last Monday and Wednesday nights the Belair PS dance groups performed in the Hunter Schools Dance Festival at Wests Newcastle. The senior group danced to ‘Can’t Hold Us’ and the junior group performed ‘Happy’. Staff from other schools as well as members of the audience commented on the excellent energy, talent and choreography displayed by both groups. This is a reflection of the high level of commitment from the dancers, their families who get the students to early morning lessons and our wonderful dance teacher and choreography Miss Zoe! Thank you to Miss Zoe and Mrs Mounser for preparing the students to showcase our school! Photos of our dance group performers can be found on the website version of today’s newsletter.
Book Club and Education Week Celebrations ~ Thursday 25 August All families are invited to join our celebrations on Thursday 25 August. We will be having Book Parades and everyone will be invited to dress as their favourite book character. There will be a morning tea picnic and a sausage sizzle lunch. A full page information sheet is on the website version of today’s newsletter.
Year 6 Farewell Meeting A meeting will be held in Mrs Jardine’s classroom on Tuesday 9 August at 3pm for any Year 6 parents interested in helping to organise the Year 6 Farewell.
School Vegie Garden Our garden is bursting at the seams full of nourishing herbs etc. We are inviting parents to come along and help themselves. If you would like to donate some time to help pull out a few weeds or donate some other edible goodies to the garden, feel free to help yourself. The gate is unlocked throughout the day and in the afternoon for your convenience.
Lost Property We have a large amount of lost property in our sick bay room. If you have lost items of school clothing, please come along and check the white basket located in the room near the school office.
