Focus is on the importance of positive relationships, positive habits, growth mindset. We continue to improve and develop our use of Zones of Regulation and Sensory Zones. We are deepening our culturally responsive practices and lean on the Teaching Tolerance resources. This year we implement our Health and PE adoptions and maintain our Wellness Committee to maintain forward progress on these key initiatives. Our curriculum goals are broad, yet highlight a specific focus on deepening our practices for Talented and Gifted Education. Safe & Welcoming Environment The RGS Safety Committee has been actively planning for increased security measures to keep students safe during the school day. This year we began using a buzz-in entry system at the front door of each school. All back and side entrances to the schools will remain locked during the school day. We continue to use a multi-agency threat assessment team, lock down and lock out drills, safety tip lines, staff training , and our community resource officers. Staff engaging in Trauma Informed Care professional development.

About Our School

BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIESAt RGS we believe in teaching the expected behaviors before students are expected to demonstrate these behaviors. Through PBIS, students learn through teach-tos, ongoing instruction in the classroom, and school-wide settings. Students are recognized for positive choices. Student supports include in classroom brain break stations, a Sensory Zone, teaching Zones of Regulation and use of Social Thinking curriculum. Habits of Mind emphasizes attributes that human beings display when they behave intelligently. Middle School instruction emphasizes responsible use of technology and discussions on responsible use of social media.

PARENT ENGAGEMENTRGS thrives with high parent involvement. The Riverdale Parent Teacher Club’s mission is to enrich Riverdale’s Preschool-8 education by enhancing curriculum activities, encouraging parent involvement, supporting student participation, and fostering communication to strengthen the community. The PTC provides many volunteer opportunities through community building activities including Classroom Enrichment, Teacher Support, Extra Curricular Activities, Community Building, Grade School Support. Teachers specify volunteer opportunities in the classroom such as facilitating literature groups. Parents serve lunch daily and provide dependable, reliable helping hands where the staff time and capacity leaves off.
