Chimpanzees can be found across central and West Africa. These great apes share 98.7 percent of our genetic blueprint – this means that along with bonobos, they are our closest living relatives. Chimpanzees are highly social beings, living in communities of several dozen animals. These communities are led by an alpha male. Although they normally walk on all fours, chimpanzees can stand and walk upright.

In this clip, you will see some orphaned chimps getting ready to go to the forest for the first time.

Using what you have learnt from the clip, create a ‘Chimp Survival Guide’ for young chimps entering into the wild for the first time.

You could include the following information:

What they’ll need to avoid

What skills they’ll need to survive

What their new home will look like

What they’ll be able to do for fun

How they’ll feel when they reach their new forest home

Extension: Humans and chimpanzees share a common ancestor that lived 6-8 million years ago, but we evolved differently. Read about evolution from bbc.co.uk/bitesize, and complete the quiz to check what you know.

Religious Education

Task: to think about next steps and how having prayer can help you be strong on your journey into year seven.

We have been looking at the messages that are in the Bible to help us to have the values of God?

Think again about the stories that you know that show people behaving in the way that God wanted us to? How does this relate to our lives today? How can this be valuable in thinking ahead of starting high school?

Think now about how we ask God for guidance. This is often through prayer. Under normal circumstances we gather for gospel assembly, key stage assembly, praise assembly and class worship. We pray individually in our own time and we can attend church. Particularly in year six, we gather our thoughts towards the end of the academic year and write prayers together.

Due to these unforeseen circumstances we may be relying on Jesus is even more. I know that you will have spoken to your high school in some way and are making many preparations.

I want you to take some time this week and think what you want to tell Jesus, what you would like to ask for and write this in a form of prayer or just take time yourselves to reflect and have some time to talk to Him. I don’t want this to be a mundane task, I want you to take from this what you can and give it real purpose. Do it for yourself.

God bless.

water. Record the water level in red on the Jug worksheet (in resources) and label it 20 bricks.

3. Remove the bricks and check that the water level returns to 500ml.

4. Make a different shape using the same number of bricks. How far does the water level rise this time?

5. Record your answer.6. Try the same again with 10 bricks. What do you

notice? Record your readings in a different colour.7. Estimate how much the water level will rise if you use

Transition to high school

Due to these crazy times we find ourselves in, I am aware you are all going to be missing out on what we would say the ‘normal’ transition to high school process.

Over the next few weeks we are going to begin to think about high school and I will do my best to support you and answer any questions that you may have.

For this week I have attached a document called ‘feelings’. In this documents it helps you to identify what things you may be happy about and what things you may worry about. It gives you ideas of who you can talk to and how to sort things out.

Another document which I have attached is called ‘coping in high school ’.

Please try to complete as much as you can and if you do have any questions then please contact me.

Bats are the world’s only true flying mammal (and they are very good at it). They have moveable joints and a flexible skin membrane, which means they are can change direction very quickly mid-flight. They are nocturnal creatures, meaning they are active at night.

Use the documents called bat facts in the resources section of the class website page or go to https://kids.kiddle.co/Bat.

People often think bats are creepy or scary because of their appearance and associations with night.

Imagine you are a bat expert. Write an article to be published in your local newspaper, explaining why people should not fear bats, and why they are in fact fascinating creatures.

Make sure you include:An attention-grabbing headlineAn introduction to the issue and your point of viewDetails explaining your point of viewQuotes from interviews with other bat expertsA photograph with a caption explaining what the photo shows

DT-cooking

Greek honey fritters

The Greeks loved foods.

Women and slaves in a Greek household were responsible for preparing and cooking food. At a symposium, several dishes were served to the men on small tables, which were placed in front of the couches. Dishes were simple such as beans soup, cheese, olives, grilled fish and pork sausages.

This dish is a sweet dish. It would have been served at the end of a meal.

Ingredients:

120g plain flour

225ml water

2 desert spoons honey

oil for frying

one spoon (15g) sesame seeds

WARNING: make sure you have an adult to help you. The oil is very hot.

1. Mix the flour, water and one desert spoon of honey to make a dough.

2. Heat two desert spoons of oil in a frying pan and pour in quarter of the dough.

3. When it fictions, turn it over two or three times to fry it on both sides.

4. Prepare three more fritters in the same way.

History/DTLife of women during ancient Greece.

Fact: Sappho was a female poet who lived on the island of Lesbos in the late seventh century BCE. Women in this part of Greece seem to have had more freedom than those in Athens. Sappho’s beautiful poems give all is a rare glimpse of their lives and feelings.

The lives of women in ancient Greece were fairly restricted. According to most male ancient Greek writers, a woman’s place was in the home. However, upper-class women were known to take on roles as priestesses in the temples, and women in the countryside worked alongside their husbands in the fields.

- Girls married young, between the ages of 12 and 15- they wanted to have children- Women could also be midwives, wet nurses or market

traders.- Women have no place in assemblies or councils- water for the home was collected in jugs by women.- in the home, women spawn and wove wall into cloth

Task:1- create a fact file about women’s lives in ancient Greece2- weave your own cloth- please see sheet in resources.

- Birmingham- London- Manchester- Newcastle- Oxford- Portsmouth- Cambridge- Lincoln- Sheffield- Plymouth

You will need to plot them correctly and ensure that you label them- make sure that you use a capital letter as they are name of a place and a proper noun.

You could use an Atlas, the internets or friends and family to help you locate the cities if you are struggling.

Extension task- which county are all of the above cities in?
