I t grew out of a prayer

meeting

tha t had been fel lowshipping together

for

j u s t

a few

months .

The group

decided

tha t

i f th ey c ou ld

f ind a place to

meet, they

would

t ry

to

form

themselves

i n t o

a

congregat ion

and see what would

happen.

They prayed

and dur ing

the week

they rece ived

word

t h a t they would be ab le to

meet

in a

school bui ld ing. On

the i r

f i r s t Sunday, not

knowing

what to ex pect,

they

had

fo r ty people.

For

several months they met and soon decided to ca l l Rusty and

Caro l Howard as t h e i r min i s t e r . Rusty and Caro l both young and en thu s i a s t i c

jo in ed th e

church .

Now

the

West Simi Chr i s t i an Church has b ee n me eti ng fo r two yea r s . Simi

Valley

i s

about 45

minutes

outside of

Los Angeles

and

primari ly

consists

of

young

people.

In fac t

the s ta t i s t i c s

show that 65

of the

92,000 people

of

Simi Valley are f if teen years or younger. Consequently,

the congregation

also

r e f l e c t s

t h i s youth .

During

the

past two

years the

West Simi

Chris t ian

Church

has not

used a

yearly

budget,

but has

simply

ut i l ized the resources

tha t were

given.

As a

matter of fact

they

do not

even

pass the plate. A

collection

box is

placed

a t th e r e a r o f

the sm all bu i l d i ng

t hey

now r en t .

On

October

8

during

an

evening

fellowship

meal,

(the

chu rch has no

evening

worship service)

the

folks a t

West

Simi had the i r f i r s t

Fai th Promise

Rally.

Robyn and I were there to par t ic ipa te . We

were

to be the f i r s t foreign mission

aries

of the

church, and Rusty had told me

previously

tha t he

hoped the

church

c ou ld p le dge ab ou t $100

a month

to us.

ButI Thi s chu rch

of

some 8 members responded in fa i th to our needs, and

when

the f igures

were

t a l l ied

a

fu l l $260 per month

was

pledged.

Of course, the West Simi Chris t ian Church i s only one of many that I could
