WEAR LAYERThe wear layer is a great indicator of quality in engineered boards – the thicker the wear layer, the more times you can re-sand. All of our engineered boards have a wear layer of 3-6mm.

DEPTH We offer floors with a minimum 8mm up to 25mm thickness. 20mm engineered floors deliver a quality product that out-perform traditional solid wood floors and last longer than 13mm and 15mm floors. Make sure you compare like-for-like prices to save replacement costs.

WIDTHSamples are often too small to assess the width of the board, so make sure you’re familiar with the width and price of the floors you’re considering. Wider boards give a more expansive look, especially in larger spaces, but tend to be more expensive.

GRADEThere are four grades of wood: Prime, Select, Nature and Rustic grade. Make sure you compare like-for-like in order to get the best value for money. There are significant differences between different grades which could ultimately affect the look of your project.

Prime Grade Clean uniform appearance with minimal knots, sap and colour variation.

Select Grade Presents natural characteristics with some knots and minor colour variation.

Nature Grade Broad range of natural characteristics.

Rustic Grade (often known as Character or Barn grade) for a rough and casual look. In short, the lower you go in terms of grade, the more rustic finish the wood has.

UNDERFLOOR

HEATING Some floors, especially solid wood floors, are not suitable to use with underfloor heating systems. All Ted Todd and Woodworks engineered floors are suitable for installation over underfloor heating. Always consult your heating engineer before installation.

FINISHAll pre-finished Ted Todd floors are fully finished. Beware of hidden costs of floors requiring additional on-site finishing.

FSCTM

Always check whether the product you are purchasing is FSCTM certified. Companies can be FSCTM certified whilst still selling non-certified products or applying a surcharge for FSCTM products.

ASSESSING WOOD FLOOR SAMPLESYou’ll likely consider a number of different wood floor samples before you make a final choice. As well as tone,

make sure that you take the following factors into consideration so that you get the right floor for your space

and the best value for money.

We are the market leaders in appreciating the importance of sustainable sourcing and won’t do business with any supplier who can’t prove the origin of their timber. The vast majority of our new wood floors are FSCTM or PEFC certified products - we’ve been FSCTM compliant since 1997, long before it was a mainstream issue.

Most companies charge extra for this certification, whereas we include this as a given at no extra cost because we believe it is the right thing to do.

For floors with lacquer, UV oil and hardened oil finishes we have designed a simple system to care for your floor. Clean with Easy Clean, protect with Maintenance Polish and restore with Intensive Polish.

For natural oil, hardwax oil and restoration oil finishes we have designed a simple system to care for your floor. Clean with Soft Clean, deep clean with Intensive Clean and restore with Oil Replenish.

T-DOOR SECTION

Supplied for 15mm and 20mm thick floors, it is used to make the transition at doorways and between interior rooms from one hard surface floor to another at equal heights.

As well as standard tones, these profiles can be hand finished to complement your floor.

What is Fidbox?

A Fidbox is a battery powered temperature and humidity measuring device that is fitted beneath a wood floor. The Fidbox is fitted by the installer, and is then monitored through an app on a smart phone.

Fidboxes can be particularly useful with underfloor heating to monitor heat and humidity levels, as extreme temperatures can affect the quality and structure of the wood. The Fidbox records all these factors and allows you to avoid future problems. Every 8 minutes, the Fidbox sends live readings of the heat and humidity levels to the app, letting you see the results in a visual, coloured scale.

How much floor does it cover?

You need approximately 1 Fidbox per 50sqm.

Ted Todd Guarantee

For the Ted Todd guarantee to be valid, the Ted Todd Fidbox system must be used for any installations with underfloor heating.

ENGINEERED

Our engineered floors are made from layered sections of solid wood. Each layer runs in a different direction to ensure durability and stability, reducing the wood's natural tendency to expand and contract. This makes it the perfect choice for underfloor heating, older homes and rooms below ground level. The top layer of an engineered board is known as the wear layer and ranges from 3mm to 6mm. Wood floors can be sanded and resealed and so the thicker the wear layer, the more often you can do this over the years.
