This excellent book originally appeared in German as Ihr Herren Berge, Menschen und Gipfel im Lande der Inka. It gives a splendid account of the expedition of the Swabian section of the Deutsche Alpenverein to the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Vilcanota in Peru. It also tells of their travels in that country and gives a large section over to archeology, history and politics of the region. Since it received a full review when it first appeared in German ( A .A .J ., 1960, 12:1, pp. 186-7), the reviewer will limit himself to a hearty recommendation of the book in its excellent translation.
