Music! Surfboards | Hoy Runnels Arc Tail 5 Fin Size: 7’4” X 21.75” X 3” | Value: $1,100 Before R. and Canyon Surfboards Rusty Preisendorfer’s label was Music! Surfboards. When asked why the name “Music!” Rusty replied “Music! is perfect in so many aspects; surfing is a dance and a song we put to our own music. We celebrate with music, we mourn with music, we work and play with music, it drives us, pumps us up, inspires us, soothes us, changes our moods, makes us laugh, scream with joy …Music! harmonizes with surfing and surfing is Music!” Over that last 30 years Rusty had a lot of encouragement from others to revisit Music! and build some custom surfboards with a different flavor. While he’d focused on Rusty for the last 32 years, the Music! vibe has never left his soul, and he decided that there is no better time than the present to strike up the Music! Rusty has enjoyed long relationships with a talented stable of shapers that includes Rick Hamon, Hoy Runnels and Mike Russo. These master shapers have been involved in shaping and design since the late 60’s/early 70’s and have been through the evolution of the surfboard consistently for more than 50 years. Working with Rusty they all decided it was time to resurrect the concept of quality shaping and craftsmanship with the “anything goes attitude” from a design perspective they enjoyed in the late 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Music! is all about combining design elements for the individual to suit their style, ability, personality and what they want to accomplish in their surfing. There are no “models” per se, more an appreciation and application of timeless templates with modern rail and bottom contour design elements that work together to create a truly unique custom surfboard. Music! Surfboards are refreshing to behold and ride; they are handcrafted, modern, and updated boards that blend the perfect mix of the old and the new. At this years’ Waterman’s Ball we are thrilled to feature a 7’4” Arc Tail that can be ridden as either a 3 Fin Thruster or a 4 Fin Quad will equal success. This board was 100% handshaped by master shaper Hoy Runnels and represents over 50 years of Hoy’s shaping experience and craftsmanship. The outline is reminiscent of the very late 60’s and early 70’s days at G&S, where Hoy shaped many a Magic, Gypsy, Egg and other popular San Diego shapes. Blended with modern rocker, rails and a single to double concave, this board is sure to excel for the surfer that enjoys this type of surfboard. This Music! surfboard was glassed by master craftsman Roger Hinds who is known for building boards from start to finish “with one set of hands”. Glassed with a layer of 6 oz. cloth on the bottom along with a tail patch and a layer of 6 oz. and 4 oz. on the deck the board was glassed to last. An outstanding use of color, the board features a midnight black and deep purple acid splash on the bottom and a deep purple tint on the deck. Finished off with a white hand taped and shot resin pinline and a clear gloss and polish the finished product is an classic example surfboard craftsmanship at it finest.

Rusty Surfboards | The 6’ 0” Yes, Thanks Model in Torsion Spring Construction Size: 6’0” X 19” X 2.43” / 29L | Value: $850 The idea behind the Torsion Spring is to create a one-piece hull where the left side talks to the right side with dynamic flex without losing kinetic energy from the wave. This core gives you the quiet, smooth, feeling of a polyurethane board but the lightness of an EPS board, this core material is fully waterproof. The Carbon Kevlar tape used along the rail in this 3D perimeter reinforced construction resists buckling. The way it wraps onto the top of the tail in the fin zone frees the tail up and provides extra rebound out of turns. Biaxial cloth is used to increase compression resistance without noticeably affecting the flex. -Waterproof Core The WPC (waterproof core) is a special developed blank that is waterproof, stronger and lighter than PU, with great flex and spring. The blank does not take in water, so if you get a ding in the water you can be back in the lineup faster than ever before. -Stringerless Because the board is stringerless, it removes the two-dimensional restriction of the board to deliver on that engineered flex. It doesn't have anything in the middle of the board; therefore, it does not divide the board by two sides. It lets one rail communicate to another rail when you are turning or when you are snapping off the lip. -Carbon Kevlar The "carbon kevlar" is a carbon fiber mesh in a matrix, but includes kevlar fibers to add some strength. While being light and stiff, the carbon fiber isn't particularly strong. By adding some kevlar, you sacrifice some lightness (i.e., it's heavier) but gain some strength." -Ideal Conditions Torsion Spring works great from knee high all the way to double overhead plus and exact conditions will of course vary on the board model in which the Torsion Spring is applied. TST will make you surf faster, quicker and looser with lots of drive. It will outlast your strongest board and yet it will be lightest in your quiver. -The Yes, Thanks Model The Yes, Thanks is a wider, fuller performance shortboard designed for knee-high to solid-overhead surf. The Yes, Thanks comes from Bender lineage, which is our popular performance board for good, hollow waves. The bottom features plus overall rocker and a fairly deep single concave splitting into a double barrel through the fins and off the tail.

Mitsven Surfboards | Mini Simmons Size: 5’10” X 21” X 2.50”| Value: $935 Bob Simmons is called the father of the modern surfboard, he is known for many things but his main contribution was the application of objective hydrodynamic theory to the small planing hulls. A small planing hull is a surfboard. The net result of the application of his engineering knowledge was surfboards that were faster than anything else ever made prior to that time. This is why Simmons-inspired surfboards are often called planing hulls and are still the fastest design out there. The revival of his shapes came about following a movie called Hydrodynamica, which ironically was never formally released but was dedicated to Simmons’ work. This is the mini Simmons of Bob Mitsven. The Mitsven Simmons have a hull bottom from the nose to the front fins. You need to surf it very short for more pleasure. Available in both Keel Fin and Quad versions, the quad featured here is a little more versatile than the straight keel. Bob has been building this model for over a decade now and every summer he goes back to the well for this small wave wonder. Who is it for? Speed freaks. It’s a great board for smaller conditions; it’s also suitable for beginners and intermediate surfers since it packs lots of volume. Different from a Fish, different from a Twin, a ride unique to itself, if you add this to your quiver it will never leave…. Trust me.
