• Almost86,000fallinjurieseachyeararelinkedwithdogsandcats.Thisincludesfallingortrippingovertheanimaloritstoysand/orbeingpulleddownorpushedbyadog.
• Oneoutof3peopleage65andoldertakesabadfalleveryyear.Andinthisagegroup,fallsaretheleadingcauseofdeathbyinjury.Tostayindependentandlowertheriskoffalls,seniorsshould:– Doregularweight-bearingexercises,suchaswalking.
– Doexercisestoincreasebalance.Examplesareyogaandtaichi.
– Doexercisesthatstrengthenmuscles.Examplesareusingastretchbandandliftingweights.
– GetenoughcalciumandvitaminDthroughfoodsandsupplements,asadvisedbytheirdoctors.
– Gettestedforosteoporosis.Followtreatment,ifprescribed.
