My introduction to Lightroom began when i started my own photography

business. My photography sessions started piling up, along with hundreds of

images to edit. Somewhere between being overwhelmed and exhausted from

the time spent editing; i wanted to find a way to save time. i began creating

presets (preset alterations to lighting and coloring) to speed up my workflow

and to be more efficient. i love my job and my goal is to save others time so

that they can balance their time with their families and their long term work

goals.

i know time is valuable. That’s why i’m here to help. Being a wife and a

mother of two young children means my time is valuable, too. When my

husband was home, i didn’t want to spend our family time together sitting at

the computer editing pictures. When my kids were awake, i wanted to spend

quality time with them and leave the editing for naps and bed time. i have

managed to use these presets to cut my workflow dramatically. This gave me

work from home, in a field that i enjoy, and still have time to raise a family. i

Let ’s talk terminology

WHAT EXACTLY iS A LiGHTROOM PRESET?

A Lightroom Preset is a way of applying many changes to an image with one

click. (You may be familiar with Photoshop Actions... Lightroom Presets work

in the same way.)

WHAT EXACTLY iS A LiGHTROOM BRUSH?

A Lightroom Brush is a tool you use to apply an edit to a specific area of an

image. (Again, Brushes in Lightroom work in a very similar way to Brushes in

Photoshop.)

WHY EXACTLY iS A LiGHTROOM GRADUATED FiLTER?

The Graduated Filter tool in Lightroom allows you to apply edits to an

image across an even gradient. This is a great tool for brightening a sky, for

example, or selectively adjusting white balance.

Q HOW DO I INSTALL MY BRUSHES?

A. Brushes are installed almost exactly like

presets. You can get step-by-step

instructions to installing brushes here.

Q. DO YOU HAVE PRESETS THAT WILL WORK IN LIGHTROOM 4 AND 5?

A. Yes, you can view all Lightroom 4 presets and

Lightroom 5 presets in our store here.

Q. WILL MY LIGHTROOM 3 PRESETS WORK IN LIGHTROOM 4?

A. There is something that can be done in

Lightroom 4 to allow Lightroom 3 presets to

work. There are three steps to this process! You

can learn more about the process here.

Q. I HAVE THE CREATIVE CLOUD. WILL THESE PRESETS WORK?

A. Yes, our presets will work great with your

Lightroom platform that is included with your

Creative Cloud subscription!

Q. I CURRENTLY OPERATE WITH THE MONTH TO MONTH SUBSCRIPTION OF LIGHTROOM. WILL THESE PRESETS WORK?

A. Yes, our presets will work on your month-to-

month program. Not a problem at all. You

always have two downloads available, too. i

encourage you to save one download to your

computer for future use as well. Enjoy!

Q. WHAT IF I LOSE MY PRESETS?

A. As of April 1st, 2012, Pretty Presets stopped

sending out backups for products that were

lost. Please make sure to back them up

through one of these sources or to a external

hard drive or thumb drive. We have a tutorial

on doing that here.

Q. WHAT IF I CHANGE COMPUTERS? HOW CAN I MOVE MY PRESETS?

A. You can move your presets by backing them

up to the storage device of your choosing.

You could put them on a CD for instance and

then bring the CD to the new computer and

upload them to Lightroom that way. We also

have a great tutorial here on how to transfer

presets from one computer to another.

Q. ARE ALL OF YOUR DOWNLOADS INSTANT? DO I RECEIVE ANYTHING IN THE MAIL?

A. Yes, all of our downloads are instant. As soon

as you purchase the products they will be sent

to your PayPal email address. You can down

load them and start using them right away!

There is no wait on any of our products. They

will not come in the mail.

Q. HOW DO I USE THE PRESETS AFTER INSTALLING THEM?

A. After you have installed the presets and the

collection folder shows in the Presets panel in

the Develop module, click the BLACK

TRiANGLE beside the collection name. The

set will open up and the individual presets will

show. Click on a preset name to have the

effect applied to the image. See this

tutorial which explains more about accessing

the presets after installation.

Q. HOW DO I USE BRUSHES AND GRADUATED FILTERS?

A. Brushes and graduated filters are called “local

adjustments” and are used very differently

than regular, “global” presets. We have a one-

hour webinar dedicated to using brushes and

graduated filters which will help you get

started using them quickly and efficiently.

Q. CAN PRESETS BE LAYERED LIKE ACTIONS?

A. Most presets cannot be layered like Photoshop

actions because most of the time the changes

are competing with each other. However, a

few of our collections were created with

layering in mind. See this tutorial for how to

use presets that layer. The collections that can

be “layered” are: Workflow, Clean and Creative

Advanced Workflow, Black and White

Workflow, and Color Luxe.  

Q. HOW DO I APPLY PRESETS TO MULTIPLE IMAGES AT ONCE?

A. Edits made with presets or by hand can be

applied to multiple images at once by using

the “sync” option. See this tutorial on syncing

edits on multiple images.

Q. DO I NEED TO BACK-UP PRESETS AND BRUSHES? 

A. Backing-up your presets is extremely

important and often overlooked. Hard drive

crashes happen to the best of us and it is wise

to back up all your images and important files,

including presets. See this tutorial for how to

back-up your presets on an external drive,

thumb drive, and/or a cloud service.
