Valérie Bach gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of the Brussels collective LAb[au] on the 1st floor and the ground floor of La Patinoire Royale. Their approach is a continuation of conceptual art, Concrete Art and the Art of Systems. The exhibition, entitled « Langage codé », presents itself as a research around colour, shape and movement that is structured like a separate language. Their works confront the contemporary aesthetics to an algorithmic logic, they represent a crossroad between art and technology, generating a plurality of thoughts plus an architectural vision, so that the encounter with the viewer provides a sensory experience arousing wonder. Biography of artists LAb[au] (laboratory for architecture and urban planning) is a group of artists working in Brussels. Trained in architecture, its members Manuel Abendroth, Jerome Decock and Els Vermang are concerned with the construction of spaces and their conceptualization. Founded in 1997, the name LAb[au] expresses the character of the projects created in its midst, the phonetic spelling of the French-Dutch word labo, expressing the theoretical aspect of research, and the German word Bau, expressing the concrete realization of projects. Present at the fairs ArtBrussels and ARCO Madrid in 2016, they also participate in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the US and South Korea in cooperation with the Denise René gallery in Paris and Muriel Guepin in New York. Nominated in 2011 by the Qwartz and in 2009 by the Young Belgian Painter Award, they get the honour mention at the Ars Electronica in 2010.
