INDIA DONATES A FULL E!UIPPED "O#ILE OPERATION T$EATRE TO

TI"OR LESTE

India as a steadfast friend of Timor Leste has been supporting the country

towards its national building and capacity development. In continuation of its efforts to

supplement the developmental path of Timor Leste and as a special gesture to augment

its healthcare system, the Government of India donated an Ambulance to the Health

Ministry of Timor Leste on ! "anuary #$%.

The Ambulance, which is a fully e&uipped mobile operation theatre, was donated

by the 'harge d(Affaires of the )mbassy of India H.). Mr. Manish to the *ice Health

Minister of Timor Leste H.). +r. Ana Isabel de atima -ousa -oares at a ceremony

attended by the officials of the Government of Timor Leste and Indians woring in +ili.

-peaing at the ceremony, 'harge d(Affaires H.). Mr. Manish said that Timor 

Leste could benefit from India(s advancement in health sector and low cost medicines.

Indian companies could invest in hospitals in Timor Leste on /// model. He added that

to improve the health management system of Timor Leste, India has proposed an inter0

governmental M12 on Health 'ooperation which will be finali3ed very soon.

*ice Health Minister H.). +r. Anal Isabel acnowledged the contribution of India

towards the capacity building and human resource development of Timor Leste. -he

thaned the Government of India for its generous contribution of Ambulance which

would help address the healthcare needs of Timorese citi3ens.

The Ambulance was specially designed to suit the topography of Timor Leste.

Manufactured at a cost of 2-4 5$,%#$60 the Ambulance is e&uipped with all necessary

e&uipment vi3 o7ygen cylinder, operation table, suction machine, autoclave, fumigator,

pulse o7imeter, dressing drums, instrument trolley, stretcher, 8/ apparatus, 90ray

viewer, A' etc. to cater to the emergency medical treatments.

-ince the establishment of diplomatic relations in "anuary #$$:, India and Timor 

Leste have been cooperating at bilateral, regional and international levels. India has

been offering economic, technical and capacity building assistance to Timor Leste

through various development pro;ects. India e7tends $ IT)' training slots and $

G'-- -cholarships every year . India offers

slots to Timor Leste for training of their diplomats at the oreign -ervice Institute of 

India. It cooperated with )ast Timor +evelopment Agency to get nomination for womentrainees. India has offered to set up a 'entre of )7cellence in Information Technology

and the pro;ect is e7pected to commence soon.
