New Delhi, July 15 President Shri Ram Nath Kovind has asked the Institute of Cost Accountants of India to promote financial literacy among women in the country. Addressing platinum jubilee celebrations of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India in New Delhi yesterday, Shri Kovind said, financial literacy among females can bring a social change. He said, the government has taken several steps towards ease of doing business. The President said, the Institute can also work towards skill development among the youth. Port Blair, July 15 Scientist from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Dr. Lal Ji Singh has invented a novel way to replace plastic drinking straws by developing a reusable bamboo straw from a bamboo species endemic to the Islands. The taxonomy of the bamboo species was described from the Island almost 15 years ago in 2003 (Blumea2003,48: 187-192). It is characterized by thin large hollow erect culm with longer internodes. However, it's potential and anatomical study has not been attempted so far. Therefore, an attempt has been made to examine the potential of this endemic species by Dr. Singh and his study led to an invention of 'Eco-friendly, biodegradable Reusable drinking straw'. It is the most significant contribution from these Islands in terms of ecological balance and socio-economic aspects. Dr. Singh, Scientist/ Dy. Director & Head of Office Botanical Survey of India, Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre said that during morpho-anatomical study in the year 2011, its morpho-anatomical structure has lead into the idea of utilizing it as an eco- friendly natural drinking straw instead of modern synthetic drinking straw made from plastic and other synthetic fibres. The commercialization of natural straw will add to the income to local people by growing bamboo on one hand and being biodegradable straw, it will fully evade synthetic straw. Significant contribution by BSI Scientist from A &N Islands Eco-friendly, biodegradable & reusable drinking straw invented Port Blair, July 15 The Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, in a letter addressed the Lt Governor, a copy of which has been released to the press, has requested for resolution of the issue regarding engagement of dependent members of deceased employees of PBMC. He mentioned that a group of dependent family members of deceased employees of PBMC interacted with him and explained about the financial problems they are facing following the sudden demise of their fathers/husbands while in service, as the salary earned by them were the only source of income for their livelihoods. The MP further stated that as on date, about 105 persons who are the dependent members of deceased employees of PBMC are in queue for their engagement on DRM/Muster Roll basis for livelihood. The PBMC passed resolution from time to time since 2016 to till 27.12.2017 for their engagement on Muster Roll basis and took up the matter with the Administration for concurrence, but no positive decision has been taken so far. The issue is relating to engagement of dependent family members of deceased employees on Muster Roll in the works being undertaken by the PBMC at various divisions whose payment shall be meet out of amount earmarked as labour charges in the individual works. In view of this, the MP has urged the Lt Governor to look into the matter and take a policy decision for engagement of dependent family member of deceased employees for their livelihood on Muster Roll basis against the work orders. MP urges for engagement of dependent members of deceased employees of PBMC Port Blair, July 15 The Department of Fisheries, A&N Administration is implementing a component 'Motorization of Traditional Craft' under the Central Sector Scheme -'Blue Revolution' wherein subsidy is provided for purchase of Outboard/ Inboard Marine Engine / Fishing Gear & Propeller. The pattern of subsidy for general category and eligibility criteria is 40% of the unit cost with a ceiling of Rs.48,000/- per inboard / outboard engine, fishing gear and propeller for unit cost of Rs.1.20 Lakh. The pattern of subsidy for ST/SC, women and their co-operatives is 60% of the unit cost with a ceiling of Rs. 72,000/- per inboard outboard engine, fishing gear and propeller for unit cost of Rs.1.20 Lakh. The eligibility criteria for availing the scheme are that applicant should be a bonafied fishermen of A&N Islands possessing registered non-motorized or motorized fishing craft, holding valid fishing licence continuously for 02 years including the current year, the engine to be purchased should not be of more than 30 Horse Power (HP), the eligible subsidy for procurement of engine shall be upto 10 HP. The fishermen possessing motorized fishing crafts, whose engines are of more than 05 years old and are unserviceable, are also eligible to replace the engines. The fishermen seeking replacement of 05 years old and unserviceable engine should produce a certificate issued by an Authorised Marine Engineer stating that the engine is beyond economical repair. The type / size of gear allowed to purchase are Gill net not below 25 mm mesh (knot to knot diagonally), hook & line.
