Freedom to Choose: Your WayThe tools, education, projects and job opportunities for underwater welding are out there - it’s your responsibility to make sure you’re equipped to pursue them. Don’t be intimidated by complicated certification processes; focus on learning each and every day and you’ll find certifications easier to obtain and much more gratifying after the fact.
Health & RecertificationRemember, welder-divers have a physically demanding career, so make your health the top priority. Holding 70 certificates won’t do a thing if you can’t pass your physical exam. Also, before you work toward a specific certificate, think about how much work it will take to maintain long-term. Most certificates require recertification, and not all are worth the trouble.
Underwater Welding CertificationAs a reminder, in almost every instance, you cannot receive underwater welding certification from a school. Only diving companies will issue certification, and they won’t be transferrable to other companies. Still, many other certifications and training is available through diving schools, and I highly recommend training at one for the experience and to increase your employability.
We’re all in this togetherThe organizations mentioned in this book were formed to help you obtain the highest quality skill set possible in your field. Let them aid you in your underwater welding journey - contact each of them and ask questions. Network with others in your field, in person and online. Find videos, forums and places to share your interests and concerns.
