The GruffaloWhat does it look like? This story is all about a mouse and its travels through a wood as they go deeper and deeper. The first

encounter is a fox which the mouse seems to be able to get around. Shortly after this the mouse has to get round an owl, snake and a gruffalo. In this book the visual elements seem just as important as the text seen as though it make it much easier for you to picture what a gruffalo looks like. Not only this but all the images look as if they have been done with water colour.

What illustration methods do they use? Most if the illustration would either use a full page just for the image or it would have the text over the

top of the image to make it easier for the audience to make a link between them due to them stereotypically been a younger audience.

What fonts do they use? They have to use quite basic fonts due to it having to also be ready by people who might be very young.

It would have to be a bold font which allows you to write in lower case lettering as well as upper case. Not only this but it would be much better to use a san serif font because there wouldn’t be any flicks on letters which could confuse a younger person who perhaps isn’t as good with their reading.

The colour of the font would usually have to be in a dark, more prominent colour to make it easier for the audience to read. When someone is younger they are more consciously seeing the contrast in between colours rather than making a story out of the pictures and the text. This might be why they would use a coloured font which stands out a lot on its background.

How many pages? This book consisted of 32 pages. The reason for this is because if the audience is for someone under the

ages of 5 then they wouldn’t be overly capable to remember a full in depth book and be able to keep up with the story line for hundreds of pages so they have made this book minimal amount of pages and simplified all the language so that is is perfect for their target audience

Author, Illustrator and Publisher? Publisher of this book: Macmillan Children's BooksAuthor of this: Julia DonaldsonIllustrator is: Axel Scheffler

Size of the pages? The dimensions of the children’s book are: 21.7cm * 0.4 * 26.9cmThis means it’s roughly the same size as the background of the children’s book images we’ve been

making

The Tiger that came for teaWhat does it look like? In this book the style of illustration has been done in a way which almost makes it seem like a child has

drawn it. This might have been done purposefully to make it relate to the audience more. On the other hand it could just be the best illustrations the author could draw due to the illustrator and the author been the same person.

Throughout the whole book, the background remains the same white colour, they might have done this to make the illustrations stand out more on the background.

All of the text has been used to fill the areas where illustrations don’t apply.

What illustration method do they use? All of the pictures in this book have been hand drawn which is quite obviously been done here, this

could have been why all of the illustrations have been put on a white background. They would have just drawn the image on paper and then scanned it over into the book. Only picking out areas which stand out in the book to make it more interesting.

What fonts? The haven't used a wide variety in the fonts in this book. They have made sure that the fonts they have used

are easy to read as well as the letter spacing is easy enough for a child to follow to words. Not only this but they Each page in a couple of short sentences to make it easier for the audience (Children) to follow the story. The font itself is never to bold because it can miss shape the letters or just even make it more difficult to read.

Once again it’s in a san serif font to make it less confusing so there’s no flicks on any of the lettering.

How many pages do the book have? The book consists of 32 pages which makes ideal for it audience once again. Not that long so the story line can

be followed the whole way through. This is exactly the same amount of pages as the Gruffalo which makes the point it’s a good length for people aged between 1-5 years of age

Giraffes Can’t DanceWhat does it look like? The whole book is full with bright colours which is a good thing for a younger audience due to their eyes been less developed, contrast between colours becomes more noticeable and interesting in a way. No only this but the text gets position in the areas where there is little background to make it easier to see the text on the page. The story of the book is all about a Giraffe that always wanted to dance

What illustration methods do they use? All of the illustration have been done by hand drawing them and maybe some paints have been used. They have been done over the full page so the text has to go on top of a different colour every time by always nice bright colours which makes the writing more prominent.

What fonts do they use? The fonts which have been used in this are as expected san serif which means no flicks off any of the lettering. On the front and back cover they have purposefully wrote the blurb and title of the book in children's hand writing to relate to them that little bit more. The fonts are always in a colour which stands out well from the background which also makes it easier for the target audience to read.

How many pages does this book have?Strangely all three books have 32 pages. If I was going to produce a full children's book I would make it so it fitted to these three books standards. This amount of pages has been almost proven to be a good number of pages to put in a book with a younger target audience.
