An historic, bipartisan state-led effort by theNational Governors Association and theCouncil of Chief of State School Officers alongwith education groups, such as ACT, College
Board (SAT), and Achieve. Consistent English language arts and math
standards for kindergarten through twelfthgrades voluntarily adopted by states.
CCSS are relevant to the real world andreflective of knowledge and skills needed incollege and career.

National PTA adopted a position statementsupporting clear, high standards in 1981.
PTA is the leading voice speaking on behalf ofparents.
PTAs have the ability to be the vehicle of information
as states begin the implementation stage of CCSSI. In July of 2011, Delaware PTA received a $40,000.00
grant from National PTA via the Bill & Melinda GatesFoundation to educate all parents on theimplementation & sustainability of common core
standards in Delaware. Both National and Delaware PTA's role is to serve as
partners with education leaders and demonstratesupport of quality education for all children.

Core members of the CCSS Committeeattended a 3 day training in September.
We worked on a multi-phase plan of action tostrategically reach out to parents in all 3counties.
On September 27, we had our 1st meetingwith DDOE partners at the table to assist us
in understanding the critical details of theimplementation and alignment timeline.
