Local Area- TinsleyMain Idea- A new recycling factory called „Sterecycle‟ has been recently
put up in Tinsley, Sheffield. It is affecting residents in a major way and is
constantly emitting dirty clouds of smoke and disgustingly strong and putrid
smells. Many local residents including myself are finding this a problem
and feel it is downgrading the local area.
SELL LINE IDEA-
STEEL CITY
STINKS!
Background knowledge…
Emissions are already higher in Tinsley than what they should be, not only polluting the area but it can also decrease your life span when constantly inhaling fumes in this type of atmosphere.
Tinsley is also right next to the M1 motorway and was originally built for people to live in who worked in the steel factories of Sheffield, such as Magna-which has now been transformed into a science adventure centre.
The Sterecycle plant and what it
does “A PIONEERING company
which sterilises household waste before recycling”
The firm has announced plans to invest a further £10 million to increase the plant's capaADVERTISEMENT, enabling it to process 200,000 tonnes of waste a year – the amount of waste produced by a town of 400,000 people!!
What do the local people want?
For this stage I will interview and hand out questionnaires to people within the local area and ask them for their opinions on the new plant, what they would change and their overall feelings towards it, I can include this within my article to show initial feedback.
(SEE HANDOUT)
The Radio Advertisement I‟m going to create will
use synergy to link to my newspaper. One of the
advertisements I‟m going to use is a competition
that is taking place in the local or national area. I will
create this competition myself and gain quantative
audience feedback in relation to collecting my
results to see which is the most enticing type of
competition such as concert tickets and trips out to
theme parks..

Extras such as the local youth centre could also be advertised within as the
link below shows…
G-A-P in the market
There is a gap in the market for this type of
monthly newspaper as it is giving people a
chance in the local area to sound their
voices; have their say! This will be done in
the form of collecting research to put into
the article in which the article can be sent
off to local MPs in the hope for a
response…the more people on board then
the more likely the MPs will have to try and
make alterations.
Budget
In creating my newspaper I shouldn‟t need
many resources which aren‟t already
available, travel costs aren‟t an issue as it is
in my local area (walking distance to
interviewees and recycling plant) and data
collecting materials are already available
within college, such as computers and
paper..
Audienc
e My newspaper is aimed at people in the
local area above the age of 12. language will be comprehensible yet understandable, as people from all nationalities and working class backgrounds make up the population of the area therefore it should be simple to read.
The target audience is also everybody in the local and neighbouring areas as the storyline may affect or disturb these sorts of residents, therefore it will be produced to relate to local situations. This can also include local adds.
Audience Feedback-
Questionnaire
I am going to create a questionnaire in which I aim to develop Qualativeand Quantative data.
From this I want to find out how much the local people know about the plant, whether it affects them or not, what they would change and identify further concerns they may have, e.g. to their health and safety due to the plant.
To collect further research and so that I can gain feedback from a wider audience I will display ideas for example, titles and colour schemes on Facebook so that people can add their own ideas.
I will then go on to print screen this and apply it to my own work.
Aim of project
It seems that the various
bits of equipment being put on the plant to
stop the smells are not working. Therefore
I aim to get local support to persuade the
plant to invest more money into equipment
which will purify the smells…
