SO3 2- Consumes oxygen to form sulphate Sea Water is further oxygenated to complete the oxidation reaction, and to bring the Dissolved oxygen to an environmentally acceptable level
ReactionNeutralisation HCO3- + H+ Co2 + H2O
Bicarbonate ions in the sea water react with hydrogen ions, hence neutralises the acidifying effect of the sulphur oxidation and thereby raising pH
