    surface decoration

Surface decoration involves the more traditional forms of glass

decoration; sandblasting, acid etching, gilding and screen-

printing. Sandblasting is the most versatile form of etching

glass and a process in which Fusion Glass Designs excels.

Effects range from simple frosting, which can incorporate

etched logos, patterns and graphics to more complex deep

carved, three-dimensional work. Subtle effects can be

achieved using hard and soft lines, semi-tones, layering and a

variety of textures.Fusion has designed and created a wide

    range of commissions.

    production capabilities

Using our extensive sandblasting facilities fusion can work on

large production runs as well as complex commissions.

Panels can be produced in any size up to 3m x 5m (118" x

198") and in any thickness. We can sandblast all types ofglass: flat sheet, curved annealed, toughened tempered,

laminate, colour coated and kiln formed. From highly

decorative carved work to standard textures and finishes.

    glass

Glass used in the surface decoration process is manufactured

using standard clear float glass, however it is also available in

specialist glasses including low iron (crystal clear) and a

variety of body tints; blue, green, bronze and grey.

Glass can be toughened / tempered or laminated to required

    national & international safety standards.

Tailor-made to clients' requirements, including curved to

radius, cut to complex shapes and drilled or countersunk.

Polymer protection: For most applications we protect

sandblasted glass with a polymer coating, applied to seal and

protect the surface. Polymer is applied to the porous sandblast

surface and bonded at a molecular level to form a protective

barrier against dirt and scuff marks. Where the glass becomes

dirty it can easily be cleaned with soft cloth and warm water.

    artwork for surface decoration

In order to sandblast a design onto glass we use a variety ofstencils ranging from computer or hand cut vinyl to screen

printed and photographic stencils, depending on the detail

required. This in turn will dictate the format of the artwork

required. We can design or generate artwork to client's

specifications; alternatively the client or designer can supply

    artwork.

    ideal file format

A vector graphic is the most suitable type of artwork, such as an

Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand file, at 1:1 scale if

possible. Sign lab files are also acceptable, provided that they

are version 7 or earlier. When sending artwork please ensure

that all fonts are converted to vector outlines, and that any

compound paths or clipping masks have been applied and

    expanded where necessary.

In the event that you cannot supply us with a vector graphic,

bitmap files are acceptable, however you must allow a

reasonable period of time for the artwork to be translated into

    vector format.

    proofs

We recommend that you supply a printed proof of your artwork

in order for us to see how your intended design should look.
