    WHAT IS A BRAND?

    A brand is the identity of a specific product, business or service.

    Brands can take many different forms they dont have to be visual

    they just need to be something that people will remember, can be

    either symbols, names, signs, color combinations or slogans.

    For example TESCOS slogan is Every Little Helps

    This is short and sweet and easy to remember.

    WHY IS IMPORTANT TOHAVE A BRAND IDENTITY?

    It is important that you have a brand identity to promote your

    product, business or service. Branding separates one product from

    another and allows it to have noticeable and memorable identity that

    is original. The most successful brands are the ones that stand out

    and are impossible to forget.

    Nicki Minaj is known for not only her

    originality within her music but also for her

    quirky fashion sense. This is not only

    noticeable throughout her music videos but

    at public appearances. Her originality has

    gained her popularity as people immediately

    remember her when heard her name.

    BRAND IMAGES

    Music artists that have originality and a distinct brand image

    tend to gain more popularity as they are much more

    noticeable. For example Taylor swift, she is a country singer

    with a quite subtle brand image, there is nothing original about

    what she does or the way she looks.

    gains her popularity as she isnt the same as everybody else.

    OUR BRAND IMAGE

    Our brand image is different indie/rock. Our target audience was for 16-25s,

    white Caucasian males. In order to create an audience that would accommodate for

    this particular audience we had to research into other artist who had a similar target

    audience and use these as an influence upon our artist, our artist could be mostly

    associated to be similar to artists such as ; oasis and artic monkeys

    CREATING A SUCCESSFULBRAND IMAGE

    To create a successful brand image we had to

    ensure we covered many different aspects

    throughout our research of other artists. Forexample we had to research into the smallest

    details such as hair styles of similar artists,

    fashion was also a main research point. We

    found that most indie bands wore dark colors

    and had long scruffy hair, therefore we

    wanted our artist to be similar to this to this to

    H-EYES

    To create an effective brand identity the image of the artist was not the only important

    thing we had to focus on. As most indie bands just have a plain name and no logo etc.

    we wanted to stick to doing the same, although we wanted to create something that

    would be bold and memorable although it wasnt fancy or in your face. The writing is

    bold, black and large in capitals, therefor it is eye catching and sticks to the general

    colors used within the indie genre. To create this font we researched into different artist

    and then went onto dafont to choose one.

    We chose to do an eye for the logo of our band, it associated with the

    name of band and also is something memorable for people when they

    think of it as the logo associates with the name and the colors usedwithin it are eye catching and stand out on the dark background.

    We watched many indie music videos and wanted to try and create some similarities, it

    wouldnt be possible as a group for us to create a video the same and to that standard so

    we tried to add things similar in small areas. We wanted out background to be wacky and

    slightly rocky also. This music video influenced the style of background we wanted, they

    are not an indie band but are slightly rocky/moshy which you could also associate with

    out artist.

    THE MUSIC VIDEO

    Watching many other indie music videos it was noticeable

    that the music instruments were very important and

    shown quite often so for this reason we focused on trying

    to do the same, indie bands primarily focus on theinstrumental elements. We used three different

    instruments throughout, 2 different guitars and the drums,

    these were all shown throughout and made noticeable as

    in many other indie/rock videos.

    THE MUSIC VIDEO

    Indie and rock bands are often associated with the saying sex drugs

    and rock and roll, therefore we chose a song that related to taking

    drugs, this reflected the typical genre and also the brand identity, notfor drug taking but the type of music as it linked to the song.

    For these areas of the video

    we had flashing lights andcamera spins to also reflect

    what was going on.

    We wanted to stick to the dark

    color schemes that we chose,

    we used dark colors to reflect

    the mood and style of music,

    also to reflect on the song to

    make it appropriate. Most

    indie videos are dark and

    quite gloomy using mainly

    black,grey,red,white. They

    usually contain some quite

    random locations too.

    This was used in an old gloomy scruffytoilets for where the drug taking went on,it seemed appropriate too use this as itmakes it look quite scruffy and isappropriate for him being on drugs, thecaging also makes it look quite scruffy.

    ANCILLARY TASKS MAGAZINE ADVERT

    We wanted to keep the brand identity running all the waythrough the elements of the coursework tasks, therefor for ourmagazine advert we wanted to ensure it looked professional andreflected the genre and style of out artist. Although indie/rockartists usually stick to low key colors for out magazine article wewanted to incorporate some color (within the instrument) tomake It eye catching for the readers of the magazine.

    The use of the photography being done in the studio makes itmore professional and draws full attention to the artist as it ison a white background. The use of the artist with theinstruments highlights not only the vocal qualities of the artist

    but the instrumental as well as this, similarly to many otherindie bands.

    For the digit-pak we wanted to focus on making it appeal to theaudience. The front cover was designed with the eye because that wasthe artists logo, within the dig pack we wanted to focus on the female

    gaze making it appeal to both females as well as males for popularity,for this reason we decided to insert some photos of the artist, without

    making it totally different to how it would normally look for any otherindie band, we also wanted to include photos of the instruments to

    highlight the style of music also, the colors used associate well with

    the poster and also the music video and fit well for the bands genreand brand identity.

    SUMMARY

    Overall I believe as a group we have been kept continuousness

    throughout the digi-pak, magazine poster and the music video. It is

    noticeable that each relate to each other and are from our artist. Also

    I believe we have worked well to create a good brand identity to fit

    the genre we were working within and have made our artist appealing

    for our chosen target audience.
