Preparing for the future in a Catholic environment Hei whakatakatū mo te wā ka heke mai nei I roto I tea o Katorika May 10 th , 2016 Term 2, Week 2 Kia ora whanau ma, I hope that all of the mothers in our school community enjoyed their special day on Sunday. I am sure you were all looked after and received special treatment from your children. All of us here at school certainly appreciate well the support from you all and we know the children are lucky to have you as part of their lives. At the end of last week we finished our book week celebrations with a fantastic ‘Dress up as a book character day’. This was a really fun day and it was wonderful to see all of the costumes that the children and staff dressed up in. Look out for photographs in tonights Midweek newspaper. A reminder to everyone that if you have not seen recent editions of the Wairarapa Times Age you may not be aware that our very own MICHELLE BEAVER has been nominated for 'Volunteer of the Year' in the Times Age Sports Awards. Michelle does a huge amount of work promoting, organising and coaching sports teams in her own time. Please help us to show our appreciation of Michelle by voting for her. To do this you need a copy of the Times Age where you will find the voting form, voting closes on 13th May. All children need to be in full winter uniform by Monday of next week. Uniform items are available through our supplier NZ Uniforms. We do stock a small range of second hand uniforms which if you wish to purchase please speak to Michelle or Kim in the office. Kia ora whanau ma,

I hope that all of the mothers in our school community enjoyed their special day on Sunday. I am sure you were all looked after and received special treatment from your children. All of us here at school certainly appreciate well the

Catholic Schools Day 2016 Monday 16th May is Catholic Schools Day across New

Zealand. In recognition of this we coming together with the other Catholic Schools from the Wairarapa at

Chanel College from 10am. The children will take part in

a liturgy, enjoy watching a talent show from each school and playing games and activities together. We

will be back at school for approximately 12.30pm. To find out more about Catholic Schools Day follow this

link to a power-point presentation sent to us from the Archdiocese of Wellington.

Sacramental Programme 2016

We are offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in conjunction with our local parish

priests. If your child is age 7 or over, they may join this group.

Classes will be held during school time in the last 4

weeks of term 2 and the first few weeks of term 3. Your child needs to be baptised to participate. We can

arrange this for you through school. Please let the school office know or Chris Connor (DRS) if you are

interested.

Sushi for lunch This term we are offering the children the chance to purchase sushi for lunch on a Tuesday. The sushi will contain chicken,

avocado and cucumber. Each pack of sushi contains five small

pieces at a cost of $4.00 per pack with 50 cents being donated to the school for each order taken. If you would like your child

to have this please place your order at the school office before school on Tuesday mornings.

Room 12 are hosting assembly this week. Everyone is welcome.

Catholic Character

Wheels Day

Every Monday at school is wheels day. This means that children are allowed to

bring their scooters to school and use

them on the hard court area at break-time and lunch-time. We do ask that if

your child brings their scooter that they also bring a helmet to wear.

GENERAL SCHOOL INFORMATION AND NOTICES

Walking Bus: Chanel College in Herbert Street.

If we are going to get cold and wet we won’t walk. From 8.20am on there is supervision and at 8.30am sharp

we walk. Let your child walk to school with us. Supervised by a teacher and for many children the only opportunity to

walk to school. Big walking bus last week! Make the most of the last of the warmer weather and join us.

Enviro News: Two lucky children head off to Pukaha

tomorrow for a day of exploration and learning. They will be part of the new School Ambassador programme run by

Pukaha but sponsored by Mitre 10 MEGA Masterton. Tora Dornan and Ella Ticehurst, two of our Enviro leaders are

looking forward to a day of conservation activities!

WORMS for SALE: Word has got around that we have a large worm farm and members of the local community have

been buying an ice-cream container full of hundreds of tiger worms for $10. If your family would like some please leave

your name and $ at the office. All money goes back into the

Envirogroup activities.

Senior 7 Aside Tournament The Kildare Syndicate will be participating in the Interschools 7-Aside Tournament on the afternoon of Wednesday 25th May. Students will have the chance to compete with other locals schools in football (Haldlow School), rugby (Red Star Grounds), netball (Columbo Courts) and hockey (Hadlow School). Students will be walking to Hadlow and students will be taking the bus to the Red Star grounds and the netball courts. If any parents are keen to help coaching and managing a netball team then please contact Mrs Williams.

PTA Sausage Sizzle Thank you to all the parents that have offered to help with our

Sausage Sizzle for terms 2 & 3. You will get a roster before the end of week 3 with the days you

are on Sausage Sizzle duty.

St. Patrick’s School Board of Trustee Elections In the next few months there will be nominations called for parent representatives on our school Board of Trustees. It is an important role that needs people with a range of skills and experiences, who believe in making a positive difference to our children’s learning. At St Patrick’s we are looking for trustees who can commit, on average, a minimum of 3-4 hours a month to help shape the future of our learners. Parent Election Notice

St Patricks School Masterton - Board of trustees’ election

Nominations are invited for the election of 5 parent representatives to the board of trustees.

A nomination form and a notice calling for nominations will be posted to all eligible voters.

You can nominate another person to stand as a candidate, or you can nominate yourself (make sure you sign both parts of the form).

Additional nomination forms can be obtained from the school office.

Nominations close at noon on Friday 20th May 2016 and may be accompanied by signed candidates’ statements.

The voting roll is open for inspection at the school and can be viewed during normal school hours.

There will also be a list of candidates’ names, as they come to hand, for inspection at the school.

Voting closes at noon on Friday 3rd June 2016.

School Road Patrol In helping to keep your child and all our children safe,

please support us in our road safety school protocols, particularly keeping the driveways free,

parking safely and using the school crossing. As part of this please do not drive up the school driveway to

drop off or pick up your child unless it is an emergency. A reminder to everyone that the school
