Comparison of Acrow Bridges to Concrete Bridges

• Life span of bridge -- The life span of any bridge is driven by the average daily truck traffic (ADTT). Acrow Bridges

are designed to comply with an owner’s fatigue life specifications, whether that life is a long 75 years or a short 15 years. Roadway decks are the most fatigued and vulnerable part of a bridge, and typically are designed for shorter

life spans. It is not uncommon to replace or refurbish permanent concrete road decks every 5 to 15 years.

• Maintenance -- The Acrow Bridge once constructed requires almost no maintenance. No parts need lubricating. All

of the bridge is hot dipped galvanized and does not require future painting. Bi-yearly inspections are a good

practice. Theft and sabotage can be abated.

• Riding comfort -- Acrow decks do not loosen and provide a high quality driving experience on our factory applied

aggregate epoxy surface. An owner can also specify the use of hot mix asphalt as the driving surface.

• Use of local materials -- The local materials would be used in the piers and abutments. Otherwise, it is use of local

labor to assemble and construct the Acrow Bridge spans.

• Construction time -- Acrow finished building a 1.46 kilometer long bridge in Chile. Along with constructing the piers,

the entire bridge was shipped and constructed with approach roads in 80 days. There is no comparison on the

issue of time. A concrete bridge like the one described will take 2 to 3 years.

• Ease of construction -- Again no comparison. The ease of construction with an Acrow Bridge is exponentially better

than alternatives due to the simplicity that is a result of the prefabricated and modular design.

• Quality control -- Again no comparison. Acrow’s QC is tightly controlled in a factory environment with three Quality Assurance systems that were listed in the previous slide. However, the pre-stressed concrete beams and the

strength of the beams are highly impacted by the amount of water used in the mix, the chemistry of the water, the

types of aggregate used in the mix, the type of cement, the humidity of the air, the quality of the reinforcement steel,

the quality of the steel wire strands, the amount of tension applied to the steel wire strands, and other factors. If a

little too much water or too much sand is used in the concrete, the strength of a beam will be compromised.

• Design -- The Acrow Bridge is fully pre-designed with the design built into the price. A concrete bridge price likely

does not include the design price.
