MILITARY & POLICE MEDALS IN INDIA(WAR & PEACE TIME)

Param Vir Chakra

• Highest decoration for valour awarded for “the most conspicuous bravery or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice in the presence of the enemy whether on land, at sea or in the air”, similar to the British Victoria Cross, US Medal of Honor.

• Officers, men and women of all ranks of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, of any of the Reserve Forces, of the Territorial Army Militia and of any other lawfully constituted Armed Forces.

• Till date India has fought 4 wars where 21 soldiers got this medal of which 14 are posthumous.

Ashok Chakra

• Awarded for most conspicuous bravery, or some act of daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice otherwise than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

• EARLIER KNOWN AS “ASHOK CHAKRA SERIES -1”

Maha Vir Chakra

• For acts of gallantry in the presence of the enemy on land, at sea or in the air. The decoration may be awarded posthumously

• ONLY 6 BARS TO MVC HAVE BEEN AWARDED SO FAR.

KIRTI CHAKRA

• Awarded for conspicuous gallantry otherwise than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

• EARLIER KNOWN AS “ASHOK CHAKRA SERIES -2”

• Ct/GD. Brighu Narayan Choudhary awarded posthumously.

VIR CHAKRA

• For acts of gallantry in the presence of the enemy, whether of land or at sea or in the air. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

• Only one Vrc in CRPF.

SHAURYA CHAKRA

• Awarded for gallantry otherwise than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded posthumously.

• EARLIER KNOWN AS “ASHOK CHAKRA SERIES -3”

PPMG• Awarded to members of

a recognized police force, the Central Intelligence Bureau, or an organized fire service who have performed services of conspicuous gallantry.

• For subsequent acts of gallantry, a bar may be awarded.

SENA MEDAL• The Sena Medal is awarded to members of

the Indian army, of all ranks, "for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the Army." Awards may be made posthumously and a bar is authorized for subsequent awards of the Sena Medal.

• This medal is awarded for gallantry. However, the Sena Medal (Distinguished) is given for distinguished service carried out by any soldier, not in the face of the enemy.

VAYU SENA MEDAL• The vayu Sena Medal is awarded to

members of the IAF, "for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for the IAF." Awards may be made posthumously and a bar is authorized for subsequent awards of the VayuSena Medal

• This Award has been classified into two categories. One is Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) and the other Vayu Sena Medal (Devotion to Duty).

NAO SENA MEDAL

• The Nao Sena Medal is awarded to members of the Indian Navy, "for such individual acts of exceptional devotion to duty or courage as have special significance for Indian Navy."

POLICE MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY

• Awarded to members of a recognized police force, the Central Intelligence Bureau, or an organized fire service who have performed services of conspicuous gallantry.

• For subsequent acts of gallantry, a bar may be awarded.

WARTIME DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDALS

SARVOTTAM YUDH SEVA MEDAL

• Awarded for distinguished service of the most exceptional order during war/conflict/hostilities.

• Operational version of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal which, since 1980, has been restricted to non-operational awards.

UTTAM YUDH SEVA MEDAL

• Awarded for distinguished service of an exceptional order during war/conflict/hostilities.

• Operational version of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal which, since 1980, has been restricted to non-operational awards.

YUDH SEVA MEDAL

• Awarded for a high degree of distinguished services in an operational context.

• In many ways, this is an operational version of the Vishisht Seva Medal which, since 1980, has been restricted to non-operational awards.

PEACETIME DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDALS

PVSM,AVSM & VSM

• These awards were given in recognition to service rendered in administrative or operational capacities during peacetime. Unlike the Gallantry Awards which were awarded in most cases for specific incidents of gallantry, the Service awards cannot be given for individual and specific incidents. They can be given more in line with countinous and sustained effort in their service.

PVSM• Param Vishisht Seva Medal (or PVSM) is

a military award of India given to recognize "distinguished service of most exceptional order" to all ranks of the armed forces.

• The award may be granted posthumously and subsequent awards are represented by a bar worn on the ribbon.

• The award carries with it the right to use “PVSM" as post-nominal letters.

AVSM

• Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (or AVSM) is a military award of India given to recognize "distinguished service of an exceptional order" to all ranks of the armed forces.

• The award can also be granted posthumously. Subsequent awards are represented by a bar worn on the ribbon. The awardee can use "AVSM" as post-nominal letters.

• The Ati Vishisht Seva Medal was originally established as the "Vishisht Seva Medal, Class II".

VSM• Vishisht Seva Medal (or VSM)

is a decoration of the Indian Armed forces. It is awarded to recognize "distinguished service of an exceptional order" to all ranks of the Indian armed forces.

• The award may be granted posthumously and subsequent awards are represented by a bar worn on the ribbon. The award carries with it the right to use "VSM" as post-nominal letters

PRESIDENT’S POLICE MEDAL FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE

All Police personnel in the country with at least 15 years of Meritorious service are eligible for this award.

•

PRESIDENT’S POLICE MEDAL FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE

• All police personnel in the country with at least 21 years of service are eligible for this award.

• Prolonged service, but only when distinguished by very exceptional ability and merit.

• Must have put in 5 years after being awarded with President Police Medal for Meritorious service.

SERVICE AND CAMPAIGN MEDALS

PRAKRAM PADAK(Earlier Known as Wound medal)

• It is specifically awarded to those who sustain ‘wounds as a result of direct enemy action in any type of operations or counter-insurgency actions’ in Andhra Pradesh,Assam,Bihar,J&K,Arunanchal Pradesh,Manipur,Mizoram,Nagaland & Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, MP, Maharashtra,UP,, Orrisa,west Bengal.

• May be awarded to any arm of the military, police or civil defence forces. It may not be awarded posthumously.

• A Gallantry Medal Awardee if in the course of duties in the specified areas is wounded he/she shall be eligible for this medal.

OPS PARAKRAM MEDAL

• All ranks of the Para Military Forces, Central Police Forces, Railway Protection Force, J&K State Police Forces, Home Guards, civil defence organization and any other organization as specified by Government who were deployed in operational areas under Army's operational control or any other personnel of such organization deployed in areas as may be specified by the Government, who assisting in implementing coordination and conduct etc of operation.

• A person who has completed aggregate service of 180 days in qualifying area. The qualifying period for the Medal extends from 14 Dec 2001 to 18 Dec 2003 (and to 31 March 2004 for those engaged in demining ops).

SAMANYA SEVA (GENERAL DUTY)• The medal was authorised on 8

May 1975 (but with effect from 26 January 1965) to replace the General Service medal of 1950 and to be awarded for actions where no specific campaign medal was issued, specific actions being denoted by a clasp.

• All ranks of the Army, and of the Reserve, Territorial and militia forces, and civilians are entitled for this award.

SAINYA SEVA MEDAL• Awarded in recognition of non-

operational services under conditions of special hardship and severe climate.

• A person who is awarded a gallantry decoration or who dies on service or is evacuated as a result of wounds or other disabilities attributable to service in any of the areas specified in the course of his service in any of the areas specified will be eligible for this award.

• It will have clasps Jammu & Kashmir, NEFA, Himalaya, Andaman and Nicobar and Bengal-Assam.

CLASP

SAMAR SEVA MEDAL-1965

• The Star was instituted on 11 February 1967 and awarded for active service during the war with Pakistan of 1965.

RAKSHA MEDAL• The medal was instituted by

the President of India on 26 January 1967 to be awarded for active service in the war with Pakistan that took place in August and September 1965, mainly in Jammu Kashmir.

• AWARDED TO ANYONE QUALIFYING FOR “SAMAR SEVA MEDAL”.

VISHESH SEWA MEDAL (SPL SERVICE MEDAL)

• Instituted to recognize special services by the Indian military which could not easily be recognized by existing medals.

• Srilanka - For "Operation Pawan," peacekeeping service in northern and eastern Sri Lanka, 1987-90, as apart of the Indian Peacekeeping Force (IPKF). Awarded to army, navy, and air force personnel for services in Sri Lanka.

• Rakshak - Awarded for security service in the Punjab, in Jammu and Kashmir, and in the northeastern areas of India. As far as service in the Punjab is concerned (and especially with regard to "Operation Bluestar"), this bar replaces the Punjab Ribbon.

OPERATION VIJAY MEDAL

• The medal was instituted by the President of India on 20 August 2001 to be awarded to those involved in Operation Vijay between 1 May 1999 and 31 January 2000.

• The “Vijay Stambh” (Victory Tower) shown on the reverse is at Chittaurgarh Fort in Rajasthan.

• Also awarded to Paramilitary and police who were under military orders.

OPS VIJAY STAR• Awarded to all personnel of the following

forces who participated in operations in and around Kargil on the ground, or in the air.

• The minimum qualifying service shall be one day in the Battle Zone/Air Fields or one operational sortie or a total of three flying hours as members of a crew in the Battle zone:-

• All ranks of the Para Military Force, Central Police Organizations and Police Forces which participated in operations under the command of the Army or in support of the Army in OP VIJAY.

SIACHEN GLACIER MEDAL• The medal was instituted on

17 July 1984 and awarded to both army and air force personnel and auxiliary forces for combat service in the initial conflict with Pakistan between 12 and 18 April 1984 and also for 30 days’ subsequent service in the area (this time limit being waived for those earning a gallantry award or mention in despatches or those killed or wounded in the area).

PASCHIMI STAR

• The Star was instituted shortly after the war with Pakistan that took place from 3 to 16 December 1971.

• Awarded for active service on the front with Western Pakistan.

SANGRAM MEDAL • Awarded for service during the

1971/72 war with Pakistan. • The medal could be given to all

categories of personnel who served in the military, paramilitary forces, police, and civilians in service in the operational areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, or Tripura between 3 December 1971 and 20 December 1972 (both dates inclusive).

POORVI STAR

• Awarded for combat service in the eastern theatre during the 1971 Indo-Pak War

UCCHH TUNGTA MEDAL (HIGH ALTITUDE MEDAL)

Personnel who have been detailed for duties connected with the defence of the borders and who have completed an aggregate service of 180 days during first spell of tenure on the active strength of a unit/formation in the areas where high altitude allowance is admissible commencing from 1st April, 1984.

POLICE (SPECIAL DUTY) MEDAL- 1962• Instituted through president sectt. Notification

No.29-Pres./62 dated 23.2.1962• Awarded to police personnel for service in harsh

climatic conditions.• Those who have completed an aggregate of one

year's service after 1St Jan., 1959, will be awarded the medal.

• The First Bar to the Medal will be awarded after a continuous service of two years.

• The second Bar to the Medal will be awarded after an additional aggregate service of 5 years subject to the condition that the maximum number of Bars to be awarded to each eligible person will not be more than two.

• Applicable to those who have completed their one year in the following areas:

• J&K: Entire J&K.• Meghalaya: All border outposts, Police Stations and Police

outposts located within 10 miles or 16 kilometers from the border.

• Tripura : The whole area.• Nagaland: The whole area.• Manipur: The whole area.• West Bengal: Check posts of Phalut, Sandhakphu & Tangta.

Vigilance posts on Indo-Nepal / Indo-Bhutan Borders.

• Rajasthan: All border outposts,The Outposts of Chattargarh p Sattasar, Barsalnur, Ranjitoural Pupal, and Khajuwala in Bikaner Di stt., Lakha Hakim in Ganganagar Distt., Sahaoarh, Miazlar, Sam Ramgarh Khaba,Kishangarh, Khuiyala and Nachna in Jaisalmer Distt., and Ogalia,Bawari, Bhuranka Tala, Bijrad, Bamnor, Khebadala, Gadra Road, Balada, Sinha Janopalia, Bakhasar, Bijjasar and Gagariya in Barmer Distt. Kotwali, Sadar, Chunawadh, Vijainagar, Ghunarhwali, Muklava, Padampur, Suratgarh Ganganagar district, Mahajan, Lunkarnaaar, Jamsar, Sadar,Kotgate, Nayashahar, Gajnair, Ganga Shahar, Diyatara in Bikaner District, Pokran, Nokha, Jaisalmer in jaisalmer district, Shiv, Gudamalani, Chohtan, Ghorimana, Barmer, Sadar in Barmer district, Baap, Phalodi in Jodhpur district and Sanchor, Chitalvana, Sarwana in Jalore district.”

• Punjab &UT of Chandigarh : For all those who have served between 1.1.1983 & 24.7.2001. Spl duty medal is not entitled after 24.7.2001 as per notification No. 11022/6/2001-PMA dtd 24/7/2001.

• Himachal Pradesh: District of Kinnaur, Spiti and Lahaaul. Pargana of Sarahan of Rampur Tehsil .

• Andaman Nicobar Island: • i) The area predominantly inhabited by the Jarawas in Middle and

South Andaman and declared as reserved areas; • ii) Police outposts located in Narcondum Inverview Island, East

Island, Kondul, Tonrassa Choura & Pillowmillow.• Air Wing of BSF: after they have rendered service of 10 sorties to the

following Air fields:— • Rupsio in Assam, Ambari, Rampurhat end Malda in West Bengal,

North Lakhimpur in Arunachal Pradesh, Kishanganj and Balurghat in Bihar, Dimapur in Nagaland, Rajouri and Poonch in J&K, Deesa, Junagadh, Khavda,Dumas and Mithapur in Gujarat and Uttarlai, Jaisalmer and Bikaner in Rajasthan.

• They would be eligible for first Bar to the Medal after completion of 20 sorties end to the second Bar to the Medal after completion of 30 additional sorties.

• Sikkim: Entire state.• Assam: The area of Sibsagar and Mikir Hills which lies

between the Railway Line and Nagaland Border; Diphu Town; (iii) North Cachar Hills Sub-Division; iv) All Border Outposts, Police Stations, Police Outposts within ten miles from the border; The area between the Nagaland —Assam State Border and a line running parallel to the Railway line at a distance of 3 miles to the West and South of that line;and (vi) Mizo Hills District.Arunanchal Pradesh: Entire state.

• SPG personnel: will also be eligible for Police (Special Duty)Medal after successful completion of their normal prescribed tenure in the organization. No. 11024/01/2008-PMA dtd 22 June, 2010.

• Gujarat: Border Outposts of Mudhan, Dhroda, Amrapur, Hazipur and Bela and Outposts of Kunaria, Gadha, Lekhpat, Amrapur, Dhoravira, Barand and Bela and Sea Check — Posts of Lakho, Dedi, Akri, Mowadi and Bhutan — all of Kutch District.

INTERNAL SECURITY MEDAL (Aantrik Suraksha Padak)

• To be awarded to police personnel who have rendered Min 2 yrs of service in CI OPS or Int secy in : AP, Arunanchal Pradesh, Assam, J&K,MP, Chhatisgarh, MH, Manipur, Orrisa,Nagaland and Tripura.

• The period of two years service should be in one span or it may be into two or more time period.

• Arunanchal Pradesh, Assam, J&K,Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura: Entire state

• Andhra Pradesh :Mehboobnagar, Guntur, Prakasam, Anantapur, Kurnool, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari; Srikakulam and Nizamabad Warangal,Karimnagar,Adilabad,Khamam Medak and Nalgonda.

• A person who dies in service or is injured in any of the ops in the specified areas is eligible for award notwithstanding that he has not completed minimum qualifying service for the award.

• A person who is awarded gallantry medal in any of the ops in the specified areas is eligible for award notwithstanding that he has not completed minimum qualifying service for the award.

MENTION IN DESPATCHES

• A person is mentioned in despatches in recognition of meritorious services in operational areas and acts of gallantry which are not of a sufficiently high order to warrant the grant of gallantry awards. A lotus leaf emblem is awarded to a person mentioned in despatches.

• Posthumous awards can be made. • All Army personnel including personnel of the Reserve Forces,

personnel of the Territorial Army, Militia and other lawfully constituted Armed Forces, members of the Nursing Services and civilians working under or with the Armed Forces are eligible.

• There is no objection to a person's name being mentioned in more than one despatch. But he will not be issued with a second emblem.

• A bronze lotus leaf worn on the medal ribbon or ribbon bar of the appropriate campaign medal.

VIDESH SEVA MEDAL• Awarded to personnel for services rendered

outside India and for such periods as may be recognised by the Government for the purposes of this award and which has not been considered for any other Indian Medal.

• A person who is awarded a gallantry decoration or a person who dies on service or is evacuated as a result of wounds or other disabilities attributable to service specified will be eligible for the award appropriate to the area irrespective of the time limit or the prescribed minimum number of sorties or flying hours.

• A person on the regular staff of a diplomatic mission in the countries specified does not fall within the purview of these provisions.

COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS

50th Anniversary of Independence Medal

• Marking 50 years of Indian Independence

• Authorised to all force personnel who were in service on 15th august 1997.

25th Anniversary of Independence Medal

• Marking 25 years of Indian Independence

• Authorised to all force personnel who were in service on 15th August 1972.

LONG SERVICE AWARDS

LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL

• Awarded to non-commissioned officers of services below the rank of dafadar/havildar or below the ranks of petty officer/corporal and to enlisted personnel for fifteen years of distinguished service.

MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL

• Awarded biannually to non-commissioned officers of the rank of dafadar/havildar, chief petty officer/petty officer, or warrant officer, flight sergeant/sergeant for fifteen years of distinguished service.

9 YEAR SERVICE MEDAL

• The medal was instituted by the President of India on 19 April 1971 to be awarded to members of the Armed Forces for nine years diligent blameless service. A very good example.

20 Yrs LONG SERVICE MEDAL

• The medal was instituted by the President of India on 19 April 1971 to be awarded to members of the Armed Forces for twenty years’ diligent blameless service.

• For those who have put in 30 years of long service in any of the three services of union of India.

• For rendering 07 years continuous service in NCC.

• For rendering 12 years continuous service in NCC.

MEDALS FOR TERRITORIAL ARMY PERSONNEL

TERRITORIAL ARMY MEDAL• The medal is awarded to junior

commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted personnel of the Territorial Army for twelve years of efficient service during which they have attended a minimum of twelve trainings; recipients also must be specifically recommended for the award. A bar is awarded for eighteen years of service and a second bar may be awarded for twenty-four years of service. The bar is made of silver and bears Ashoka's chakra.

TERRITORIAL ARMY DECORATION

• The medal is awarded to officers of the Territorial Army for twenty years of efficient service. Service is actually computed by a rather elaborate formula but, in general, active service during wartime or any other emergency condition counts double; it is unclear from the regulations how service which qualifies for the various long service medals relates to this award.

MEDALS FOR DEFENCE SECURITY CORPS (DSC)

“UNNAT RAKSHA SURAKSHA CORPS MEDAL"

The medal is awarded annually to officers and enlisted personnel of the Defence Security Corps who have served for a minimum of seven years in the Defence Security Corps and for a total of fifteen years in combined armed services and Defence Security Corps service. The medal is awarded on a scale of two per thousand enlisted personnel in the Defence Security Corps.

• In normal circumstances, no more than forty-five presidential police medals for gallantry may be awarded in any single year.

Fire Services Medal for Meritorious Service

• Awarded to those in the organized fire services who have performed Meritorious service.

• Subsequent acts of similar service may be recognized by the addition of a bar to the medal ribbon.

President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service

• Awarded to members of the fire services for distinguish service. Subsequent acts of similar service may be recognized by the addition of a bar to the medal ribbon.

• Subsequent acts of similar bravery may be recognized by the addition of a bar to the medal ribbon.

• It is a circular 35-mm silver medal, bearing the state emblem and motto in gilt and, below, the emblem of the Home Guards, surrounding it the legends in Hindi "Rashtrapati ka Grih Rakash wa Nagarik Suraksha Padak" or "President's Home Guards and Civil Defense Medal”.

• Awarded to members of the home guards, civil defense, and mobile civil emergency force for acts of gallantry.

• A circular 35-mm bronze medal, with the state emblem and motto. Surrounding, the legend in Hindi "Grikraksha wa Nagarik Suraksha Padak" or "Home Guards and Civil Defense Medal.

MEDALS FOR JAIL SERVICES

MEDALS FOR JAIL PERSONNEL:• All India Committee on Jail Reforms (1980-83) had

recommended that Government of India should institute medals for rewarding prison personnel.

• Based on these recommendations, the following medals have been instituted for award to the prison personnel every year on the occasions of the Republic Day and Independence Day:

• Gallantry Medal– President’s Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry (PCSMG)– Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry (CSMG)

• Service Medal– President’s Correctional service Medal for Distinguished Service

(PCSMDS)– Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service (CSMMS)

President’s Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry (PCSMG)

• The President’s Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry is awarded for conspicuous/exceptional gallantry in apprehending a prisoner or in preventing their escape, the risk incurred being estimated with regard to the obligations and the duties of the officer concerned and for the outstanding work done in the preceding year.

Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry (CSMG)

• Correctional Service Medal for Gallantry is awarded for conspicuous/exceptional gallantry in apprehending a prisoner or in preventing their escape, the risk incurred being estimated with regard to the obligations and the duties of the officer concerned and for the outstanding work done in the preceding year.

President’s Correctional service Medal for Distinguished Service (PCSMDS)

• Awarded for exceptional service towards the advancement of Art, Literature and Science, and in recognition of public service of the highest order.

PADAM VIBHUSHAN

• The Padma Vibhushan is the second highest civilian award.

• Awarded to recognize exceptional and distinguished service to the nation in any field, including government service.

• Announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

PADAM BHUSHAN

• The Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award and is awarded for distinguished service of high order.

PADAM SHREE• PadmaShree is the fourth highest civilian

award in theRepublic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan.

• Awarded to recognize distinguished contribution in various spheres of activity including the Arts, Education, Industry, Literature,Science, Sports, Medicine, Social Service and Public Affairs. However it has also been awarded to some distinguished individuals who were not citizens of India and who did contribute in various ways to India.

Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards

• Jeevan Raksha Padak awardswere instituted in the year 1961.

• As the name of the award suggests, the award is given to a person for saving someone’s life. The award is given for meritorious act of humane nature in saving the life of a person in cases like drowning in water, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, natural calamities, rescue operation in mines etc.

• It is given in the following three categories:-1. Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak2. Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak3. Jeevan Raksha Padak

Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak

• Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for conspicuous courage in saving life under circumstances of very great danger to the life of the rescuer.

• Persons of either sex in all walks of life are eligible for these awards.

• The award can also be conferred posthumously.• The award is presented in the form of a medallion

and a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister.

• The recipients are given a lump-sum monetary allowance Rs. 100,000/=.

Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak

• Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of great danger to the life of the rescuer.

• The award can also be conferred posthumously.• The award is presented in the form of a medallion

and a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister.

• The recipients are given a lump-sum monetary allowance Rs. 60,000/=.

Jeevan Raksha Padak• Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for courage and

promptitude in saving life under circumstances of grave bodily injury to the rescuer.

• Persons of either sex in all walks of life are eligible for these awards.

• The award can also be conferred posthumously.• The award is presented in the form of a medallion and

a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister.• The recipients are given a lump-sum monetary

allowance Rs. 40,000/=.

METHOD OF WEARING MEDALS

WEARING OF MEDALS:Wearing Of Medals Ribands 1. Full medals Will be worn on all ceremonial occasions

with shirt terry cotton or tunic. 2. Medal senior in order of precedence will be worn on

the right side and all other medals will be placed so on.3. While putting on ribands not more than 4 ribands to be

worn in one line.4. Ribands are worn on all occasions when wearing

uniform, except when wearing the following:- (i) Over garments (jersey pullover) (ii) Combat dress. (iii) Full medals or miniature medals.

• Medals are worn with the obverse side showing.

• A person shall not deface or destroy, by melting or otherwise, a service decoration.

• Medals are worn in specific order, called the Order of Precedence set by the Government of India.
