Prep Newsletter Friday

5th June 2015

Dear Parents and Friends,

Achievements

We constantly want to celebrate all that is good and each Friday we have a

celebration assembly to recognise the achievements from both inside and

out of school. This is a special time to also celebrate the number of

Commendations and Award Marks each pupil has received and for Lower

Prep to recognise the Star of the Week from each class.

Today, in your daughter’s bag, you will have received a form to complete

as to her achievements this academic year, be they music, dance, drama

exams, competitions entered and clubs attended in and out of school.

Please would you mind completing this form with your daughter and

returning it to the Prep Office by Monday 15th June. The completed form

will help us to recognise her achievements and will then be kept as a

record in her file.

Chess News

On Sunday 31st

May Scarlet, from Year 3, played in

the Under 8’s Girls Megafinal for North Middlesex,

as part of the UK Chess Challenge. In a field of the

25 best girls, Scarlet came a clear 1st

with 6 out of

6, qualifying for the Gigafinal for the whole of

Southern England. Scarlet received her trophy

Wedding

During half term Sara, our After

School Club Supervisor got

married at the Hare Krishna

Temple. The reception followed

with close friends and family,

including some from America

who flew in especially for the

occasion. The weather was

beautiful, helping to ensure a

perfect day! Congratulations Mr

and Mrs Dainton

Father’s Day

Following our successful Mother’s Day/Special Person Assembly in

March we invite all Prep School fathers to attend our Father’s Day

Breakfast with their daughter on Thursday 18th June 8.00 - 9.00am in the

Upper Prep Dining Room. If you will be attending please let Mrs Daws in

the Prep Office know before next Friday, in order that we know how

many to cater for.

Library Help

I would like to offer the biggest thank you

to all of the parent volunteers who have

helped in the Lower and Upper Prep

libraries this academic year, especially to

Mr Purcell and Mrs Jenkins. Their help has

been invaluable and all books have been

covered, categorised and put onto the

computer system. We are looking for more

volunteers to help in the libraries for next

academic year - this could be for 1 hour per

week, or more, if you are able to offer more

time. If you are interested please would you

let me know, as there would be a small

amount of training involved.

Uniform

June - July = Summer uniform (dress, cardigan (not jumper), white ankle

socks.

Year 6 pupils may continue to wear their winter uniform all term. A short

sleeved school blouse is permissible, as are white ankle socks.

Please ensure that hair is fully tied back and accessories are discrete -

plain navy blue or black.

Watches may be worn by pupils in Years 1 - 6 - small, analogue with a

plain strap. If your child wears a watch she must be able to put it on and

take it off independently.

For PE and swimming please ensure that all jewellery is removed, unless

with prior agreement from Mrs Aisthorpe. Report

At the end of this term on 3rd July your daughter’s end of year report will

be available via your personal online portal. Today you will have received

a letter (sent in your daughter’s bag) with your portal login details. Please

would you try opening your portal and if there are any issues please

would you contact the School’s IT department. We will not be sending

paper copies.

Sun Safe

We are so blessed by the weather at the moment. Please

would you ensure that your daughter has had the long term

sun cream applied before school, or that she brings in a

named bottle of sunscreen that she can apply

independently. A sunhat is also a necessity to protect her.

Our St Margaret’s sunhat may be bought from D J Uniforms.

If you buy online or on the telephone uniform items can be

delivered to school.

Sports Day starts at 2pm on the Senior School playing field, led by the

Games department, involving every child in the Prep School. The

children will need to bring in sunscreen, wear a sun hat (the weather

forecast is looking to be hot!) and wear their PE kit, but with a plain t-

shirt in their House colour. Water will be provided for the children.

Gordon = blue Nicholson = green Raleigh = red Wesley = yellow

At the end of the afternoon (at approximately 3.30pm) after the prizes

have been awarded the pupils will be directed to join their class teacher.

Lower Prep girls may be taken home from the field. The book bag will not

go home.

Upper Prep girls will return to their classroom where you may collect her.

Any girl who is not collected by a parent or guardian will be taken back to

their classroom and will be looked after until normal pick up time. After

School Activities will continue as usual and if you need to use the After

School Club please use the on-line booking.

In the event of wet weather, it is likely that Sports Day will be cancelled

and lessons will continue as normal. If you are in doubt about this,

please refer to our school website, www.stmargaretsbushey.co.uk, for

information.

Reception

We have had a lovely first week back in Reception.

Our new topic is ‘Under the Sea’ and we made

some lovely artwork featuring different sea

creatures and made our own Rainbow Fish.

Page 8: Prep Newsletter 5th June 2015

Before the half term holiday Year 1 made grass heads as

parts of our Science topic about growth. Something

amazing happened during the week and when we came

back on Monday our grass heads had hair!

We are going to let them grow a bit longer before we give

them a haircut and bring them home.

Year 1

Year 2 are going on

safari! Safari is the Swahili

word for journey but often

people say they are going

on safari when they go to

Africa and drive round a

national park to see all sorts

of animals. We have found

lots of information about

some safari animals and

over the next few weeks we

will be using our note

making skills to write our

own non-fiction books about

one of these animals.

Year 2

Authors at the age of 7 - how fabulous is that!

We loved our International Mufti day. It was

wonderful to see so many brightly coloured and

beautiful clothes and very interesting to hear

about the costumes and the countries that they

originated from. Anna’s costume arrived by post

from Russia just in time on Friday morning!

These are some of the things that the girls especially
