Timber Sales are Returning…Get Ready to Collect the DATA! - Complimentary Sunday, June 23 11:00 am - Noon If you are not using the ACF member benefit of FREE access to the Timber Transaction Price Service (TTPS), a comprehensive online database of actual stumpage pricing provided by RISI, you are missing out. Maybe you think you don’t have enough sales to participate, or it seems too complicated, or perhaps you don’t see the cost/benefits for your firm or business. Whatever the reason has been, take advantage of the “info” session at this year’s annual conference to learn more about the service and how it can help you and your profession.

Seth Walker, Associate Bioenergy Economist with RISI, will provide an online demo and training of TTPS as well share with us some of the trends and data extractions you can get out of the system to help your business. Did you know you can produce customized price trends and stumpage reports to use in your day to day operations and reporting to clients? Stumpage prices will begin to reflect the changes in our industry as bioenergy markets continue to grow and the economy recovers. As a profession we need access to good data to navigate these changes for our clients. The TTPS is an excellent resource at the right price to do that. Ruth Seawell, Forest Analyst for Larson & McGowin, will discuss strategies to garner greater participation among ACF members and thus a more robust timber database for all. This is a hands-on class in a computer lab.

If you handle one sale or a hundred sales a year, TTPS can be a benefit to you. Come find out how!

ArcGIS for the Consulting Forester - Complimentary Sunday, June 23 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Learn how to access a variety of available databases for various forestry applications including: inventory, planning, assessments and more. The session is designed to expand opportunities and effectiveness while leveraging Geospatial Technology. We will offer views of emerging trends and a hands on session to navigate ArcGIS Online.

Course taught by Mike DaLuz and Tim Clark of Esri.

These education opportunities are brought to you by your ACF Education Committee. They have worked diligently to secure the best presenters on topics that have practical applications for consulting foresters. For the

first time we are setting up a computer lab for a more interactive experience.

These pre-conference courses are offered as a member benefit and are priced below the actual cost of bringing them to you. We hope you will take full advantage of this opportunity.

Post Conference Activities

Leadville History Tour - $95 adults/$55 children (ages 7 to 12) Wednesday, June 26 - 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Optional post conference activity

Abe Lee discovered gold at California Gulch in 1860, prompting a rush of hundreds of prospectors to form a camp in Oro City, site of present day Leadville, Colorado. Discovery of silver in 1877 sent another wave of prospectors to the area and fortunes were made by “Silver Kings” such as Molly and JJ. Brown, Horace Tabor and Meyer Guggenheim.

The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad arrived in August, 1880. President Ulysses S. Grant and his party were among the first passengers. By this time the population was 25,000. In 1878 the city was rechristened Leadville, The Source of Silver, and it is still the highest elevation incorporated city in North America.

The 1893 repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act effectively wiped out much of the wealth enjoyed by so many. Now a National Historic Landmark District, the town of Leadville has preserved its quaint and absolutely original 70 square block mining district. Harrison Avenue, the city’s main thoroughfare, boasts over 50 significant 19th century buildings.

Your tour will begin with a ride on the Leadville, Colorado and Southern Railway. This spectacularly scenic trip in a 1955 diesel train departs from the 1893 C&S Depot and follows the old 'high line' along the headwaters of the Arkansas River to a splendid view of Fremont Pass. The return takes you to the French Gulch water tower for a dramatic look at Mount Elbert, Colorado's tallest mountain (14,433 ft.). You will travel through pine forests, aspen groves and view high alpine meadows sprinkled with wildflowers. The ride lasts about 2 1/2 hours, and because of the high elevations, jackets or sweaters are recommended even on the hottest summer days.

Following lunch at the historic Delaware Hotel, you will tour the Matchless mine. Horace Tabor made (and lost) a fortune during Leadville’s boom days with the Matchless mine producing more than $2000 a day in high quality silver. The story of the mine isn’t just about riches. The unfaithful Tabor fell in love with Elizabeth Doe (better known as “Baby Doe”) and in doing so created one of the most publicized love triangles of the century.

You will have time to explore the Leadville Historic District before returning to Keystone. The Colorado Historical Society operates The Healy House and the Dexter Cabin, an exclusive poker club for wealthy gentlemen, is just next door. The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum is open daily. And the Tabor Opera House, said to be the finest theater between St. Louis and San Francisco when it was built in 1878 is open for tours.

Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Altitude Awareness

The average altitude of Colorado’s Summit County is over 9,000 feet. You will probably notice that your breathing is faster or deeper, you have an increased heart rate and you may feel short of breath, especially when being active. This is the body’s first and most effective

response to altitude. Being in good physical condition has no bearing on ones ability to acclimate and more than 20% of all visitors will experience some altitude illness symptoms.

Ultraviolet rays from the sun are also stronger. No matter how tan, you should use a sun block with a minimum SPF rating of 15. Wear sunglasses with UV protection, even on cloudy

or overcast days.

Also, drink LOTS OF WATER.
