Lesson 6-10 Warm-Up
PRE-ALGEBRA
Reasoning Strategy: Make a Table (6-10)
To solve a problem that requires doing a chain of repeated calculations (you need the previous answer to find the next number in the pattern), it would be helpful to make a table.
Example: At the beginning of the year 2008, the population of the U.S. was about 297.6 million. If the rate of population growth is 0.85% in 2008 and 0.02% more each year, what will the population be at the end of 2014?
How can you use a table to solve a problem that requires you to make several repeated calculations to solve?
The population at the end of 2014 will be 314.4 million people.
PRE-ALGEBRA
Martin had 100 trees in his orchard the first year. Each
year after that he increased the number of trees in his orchard by
10%, rounded to the nearest whole number. How many trees did he
have in his orchard in the sixth year?
