Congratulations…Bishop ivory J. Payne

On Sunday, September 26, 2010, The National Holy Trinity Baptist Association, Inc gathered together to carry forth the will of God concerning the ordination and consecration of His servant, Bishop Ivory J.

Payne to the office of Bishop. Bishop Payne is the founder and

pastor of New Birth Full Gospel Ministries of Baton Rouge, La. He is a man who has proven himself to be an exceptional shepherd for God’s church. He has committed his life to seeking out, drawing in and caring for the people of God. He feeds members the undiluted word of God, providing food to help the body grow strong in the Lord. Bishop Payne also fights for members in the spiritual realm - consistently going to God in prayer and confronting the enemy to rebuke his plans in the matchless name of Jesus. As the shepherd of New Birth Ministries, Bishop Payne also corrects members through Godly counsel to draw the sheep back in to the flock when they have gone astray. He truly cares about the souls of God’s people and he does all that he can to ensure that each person takes their rightful place in the Kingdom of God. Most importantly, Bishop Payne sets a godly example for members to follow. The lambs and sheep are able to follow the man of God as he follows Christ.

Bishop Payne is the publisher of the oldest African-American newspaper in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is the Vice-President of The Louisiana Black Publisher’s Asossication, The President of the North Baton Rouge Economic Development Cooperation. Bishop

Payne’s ministry can be heard bi-weekly on1460 WXOK AM Radio. He sat on severl boards and auxilarirs too numorus to list.

Ask the Church Lady

Dear Church Lady,I am a saved woman and I am trying to raise my kids to believe in the Lord Halloween is coming up I do not want my children dressing up, but my hus-band doesn’t see anything wrong with it I use to dress up when I was little, and I really do not see the point I think it promotes Witches and the Devil. - Signed Boo

Dear boo,I am one never to tell a Parent what to do, but since you asked here goes, I see noth-ing wrong with allowing your children to dress up now since you do not want to pro-mote the witches or the devil don’t dress them up like those I know some people who have dressed there children up as Angels, As Moses, as Animals from the Noahs Ark the bible is full of great people and things to dress up as but Halloween can be a great day for children don’t take that away from them it’s called childhood memories, oh and tell them babies church lady said to send me some candy. - Signed Church Lady

Dear Church Lady,What is your stance on Bishop Eddie Long and all the hoopla surrounding these allegations ? - Signed, Interested in the Outcome

Dear Interested,First PRAYER is needed for ALL involved from the Bishop to the Accusers to His Wife to the congregation of New Birth, I think this is a sad sad situation because there are no winners here if it is true so many people will be hurt behind this, if it is not true people are gonna not blame the accusers but the gay community and they are gonna be even more persecuted instead of ministered to within the black church, the one thing Bishop cannot do is settle this quietly because if he does it will look like there is a cover-up so either way ...What is done in the dark will come to light, but until then......PRAY SAINTS PRAY!!!!! - Signed, A Praying Church Lady

it is iMPeratiVe that the Body of Christ take note of the Generals who the Lord is allowing to transition

into glory for their well-deserved rest! I think sometimes we take their leadership and presence for granted thinking they’ll always be here; the Bible says it like this: “I won’t tarry with you always”....; like the way I use to think about my late Grandmother. She was a staple in our family, I never knew life without Grandma until she was called Home to Glory some twelve

years ago, but I DO remember the things that she taught me.

This is why it is VitallY important that we value them while they YET live, learn all we can under their leadership and ready ourselves to step in to our dimension once God releases them from earth to Glory. We must cease all of this bickering and jockeying for position & attention in the Body of Christ. It is important to learn how to serVe under someone in leadership before you can be an effective leader yourself. Mentorship is lacking Big tiMe in the Kingdom because instead of others attempting to leave a legacy that may carry on for generations to come and plant some much needed seeds into others, many are more interested in being the “next big” preacher, teacher, prophet, singer, etc. We have got to rid ourselves from this selfish mentality that this ministry walk is about us

when those of us who serve sHoulD be the main ones looking to serve with our lives in whatever manner will allow God to gain the most glory from our beings.

God allows the powerful ministry gifts of these Anointed men & women of God but only for a season; in order to teach us and lead us into all TRUTH and to carry on the mantle and work once they are gone. I miss them dearly, appreciate those that I’ve gotten to know and are getting to know now and appreciate the love, prayers and service they have given over the course of their lives for and toward the Body of Christ.

You will be greatlY missed but neVer forgotten....

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep [me] from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. 1Ch 4:10

Have you ever felt ashamed, unworthy, undeserving or unsure about your right to ask God for

things because of what you’ve done or where you’ve been? Jabez didn’t and neither should you. Jabez was born of a sorrow and pain so great that his mother gave him a constant reminder of this fact, she named him after it. But a few words to God changed a life and label of sorrow to a full life of victory. I Chr. 4:9

Asking God is honorable. Jabez was more honorable than his brothers because he directed his words to his God who changed the course of his life. He went directly to the source and achieve great results and so can you. David, a man who enjoyed all of the power and

pleasures of life, never lost sight of the fact that his success was rooted in his relationship with God. I Chr. 29:12

Asking is simple. Jabez talked to God like a he was having a conversation with a friend. It wasn’t deep and he used less than 35 words. How easy is that? Asking God brings real results. At the end of the story, God granted everything that Jabez asked for. Matthew 7:7 sums it up in one simple three letter word – ASK- what are you waiting for?

This November 2, voters will head to the polls to elect statewide officehold-ers, including the offices of Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, and two Ohio Supreme Court Justices. One par-ticular race – the office of Ohio Attorney General – is drawing a great deal of at-tention due to the impressive record built up over the past two years by the current officeholder, Franklin County’s own Richard Cordray.

Cordray was elected in 2008 following the resignation of then-Attorney General Marc Dann, who gave up his position following scandal in his administration. Cordray ran on a reform platform, and

thus far has built an impressive record of accomplishments since cleaning up the office.

“When I was elected in 2008, I prom-ised that I would restore integrity and professionalism to the office of the Attorney General,” said Cordray. “I’m proud to say that we have been success-ful in doing so, and I look forward to earning the trust and support of voters this November for another four years.”

Since winning a landslide victory in the special election two years ago, Cordray has tackled a large number of issues important to Ohio voters.

Following the economic crisis of 2008, Cordray has used the power of the Ohio Attorney General’s office to hold many Wall Street firms accountable for their il-legal activities leading up to the collapse. So far, more than $2.7 billion has been returned to workers, retirees, and inves-tors as a result of his office’s efforts.

While Cordray has made Wall Street corruption a top priority of his office, he has also earned the respect of Ohio’s law enforcement community. Cordray is en-dorsed by every major law enforcement group in the state, and points to the work his office has accomplished over the past two years as the reason why they all sup-port him.

“We have increased training and pro-vided more high-tech support services to law enforcement agencies than at any time in the history of the office,” Cordray said. “Supporting police who keep our communities safe is a key part of my job

Bibleway Patriarch Bishop William C. Latta Celebrates 50 years of Service

B ishop William C. Latta was born February 20, 1932 to the late Lula and Wilbur Latta in

Oxford, N.C. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost and baptized in the name of Jesus, on spring break from college at age eighteen. Bishop Latta is a graduate of the Washington Bible College. He stud-ied at Howard University, Cortes Peter Business College, Bible Way Educational Center and the Capital Bible Seminary. He received his doc-torate degree at Aenon Bible College and was a faculty member for more than twenty-one years. He is also a United States Army Veteran.

Bishop and Mother Leila M. Latta have six children: William C. II, Elaine Lynch, Carolyn-Wood, Jonathan (Cheri), Timothy

(Yolanda), and Tiffany. Under the auspices of the Holy Spirit, Bishop Latta instituted the Bible Way Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Columbus, Ohio.

In 1978, the church began con-struction of a new edifice under the vision of Bishop Latta, the late Elder Herman L. Partridge and the entire Bible Way family. They formulated their own company, Church Construction, Inc. The first service on December 24, 1979 was in the lower level of the unfinished building and in May 1980 the first Sunday morning service in the new sanctuary.

During this dynamic period, Bishop Latta began Bible Way Theological Institute to provide a solid foundation for graduate study

in theology, business and humani-ties. He has written several books: Demonology, How to Received the Holy Ghost Without Tarrying, The Oneness of the Godhead and the Handbook for Marriage.

Furthermore, Bishop Latta is asso-ciated with the Bible way Churches of Our Lord Jesus Christ Worldwide, Inc. He serves on the Executive Board of Bishops, Auxiliary Bishop over the National Sunday School department and is the Diocesan Bishop of Ohio.

In September, Bishop Latta cel-ebrated 50 year church anniversary.

Congratulations Bishop Latta and Bibleway. May the Lord continue to move as you minister on the West side of Columbus.

while most persons beyond eighty are looking for a wheelchair and some place to relax, Rudolph

Waldo McKissick, Sr. is doing just the reverse.

On Saturday, September 25, 2010, Bishop Paul S. Morton, along with Bishop Andy Lewter travelled to Jacksonville, FL to lay hands on and consecrate Bishop-Elect McKissick, Sr. Several other leading bishops of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship were also in attendance including Bishop Neil Ellis, Bishop Jerry Hutchins, Bishop Daryl Brister, Bishop Oscar Brown, Bishop Lester Love and a host of others.

The Bethel Choir took the worship service to musical heights and the preaching, done by Bishop Rudolph McKissick, Jr., was a display of pulpit genius. others notables in attendance included Pastor Jamal Bryant and Dr. Harold Carter, Jr.

Bishop Mckissick was consecrated to serve as the bishop of Marriage and

FamilyEnrichment for the Full Gospel

Baptist Church Fellowship. As such, he will be in charge of counseling and designing workshops for members of the fellowship to take advantage of.

To prepare for his elevation, Bishop McKissick underwent a rigorous course of study by Bishop Andy Lewter of Amityville, NY and Bishop Jerry Hutchins of Athens, GA. The training included crash courses in Church History, Theology, Church Doctrines and Ecclessiology. A special catechism and exam was set up for the candidate in August that he passed without incident.

Bishop McKissick’s work will begin immediately and members of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship can expect to see evidence of his work as early as the Pastor’s and Ministry Workers Conference in November of this year. All pictures taken by Reuben Chandler with Redd Photography

i met Pastor Dickerson back in July at the Overflow Awards hosted by Pas-tor Michael Heard. At the awards, I

learned that she is well respected in the ministry, in her community and amongst her peers. She recently celebrated her 11th Pastoral Anniversary. The Praise Reporter sat down with her to hear her heart about her ministry.

Tell us about your beginnings in ministry.PD: If we go way back it was at the age of 12, when I received the Lord as my saviour and I had some very intense en-counters with God because He would show me dreams and vision and as a young girl I didn’t understand it. One day, I was sitting there in the bed actu-ally and I heard God say “ if you love me keep my commandments.” I begin to express these visions and dreams to my mom because I didn’t know what to do. My mom took me to my pastor when I was 14 yrs old and he recognized the ministerial call on my life and the age of 16 he released me to begin to minis-ter in the church. I carried my bible to high school everyday I was witnessing to kids, everywhere and so it was almost natural for me because my heart was just so full of love for the Lord.So from that point, how did you develop into pastorship?PD: When the Holy Ghost spoke to me to be that God called me for that it was not anything to that I mentally or physi-

cally or educationally prepared for but what I didn’t know was that the church I came out of there are about, probably about 20 people that been called to the ministry of pastor, so we realized as we look back that our pastor was raising up leaders. I don’t know if he was fully aware of what he was doing but, I mean from the several generations there were pastors and pastors and pastors and one day the Lord said to me, I’m calling you to pastor, and I said, but I said I don’t want a pastor I can’t pastor I’m a female we don’t do that. For about two years, I hid this in my heart and was afraid to speak it out and even tell anybody not my husband or anyone else. I then got to the point where I could not hide it any longer and I went to my pastor at the time and gave him the information that God had given me. From there a series of things occured and then I found my-self saying yes to the Lord and began to move forward and preparing to develop a ministry.

How did you overcome the opposition and find the courage to step into pastorship as a woman.PD: It was not easy but one thing I had was an assurance in my self that God had said it to me and I met a lot of resis-tance. It was a very difficult transition to make, but I said these words to God because I sat at my church as long as I possibly could. I said to God, “if you let my pastor say from the pulpit it is time I will know that that is my release to go.”

We were in church one Sunday morning and I share it with my very close friend she said do you still need God to say it is time? I said, “absolutely, thats what I ask God for.” My friend replied,“Well you’ve heard prophetic word and you’ve heard people speak to you in the beauty parlor about God’s calling on your life” I said, “but thats not what I asked God for. I asked Him for three words it-is-time.” That Sunday, my pastor stood up to preach and as he began to prepare what he had planned to say, he said “some of you are sitting there waiting for God to say it is time.” All i needed was those three words and from there I did the ground work to begin the process. Did I meet a lot challenges? Yes, I did. Even within my own family, people that I had grown up around for were unable to embrace me, but i knew that God had called me and I’d rather obey God than to obey man. I had, one pastor at my for-mer church that I worked with for many years said “I dont believe in woman pas-tors, I dont believe God has called you. and I dont believe that this is what you, but if you ever need me to come over to help you let me know.” I said, “No thank you.” You will never come and send the dual message to the world –“you know that I will help you” but, “I dont believe in what you do.”

I see that your motto for your church and your vision is “Beyond the Walls into the World” tell me what that means today. PD: Well, Perez, means breakthrough, God of the breakthorugh and we de-velop the ministry on break through, breakthrough prayer, deliverances, ser-vices, for marriages, families and then God said beyond the walls. Now we are breaking through everything in the

church . Theres so many breakthroughs you can have within the walls but then God began to impress upon my heart that we need to breakthrough the mar-ket place and go outside of the comfort of the church. Even in our mental state, we need to break outside of where we are in order to be effective Christians, to be effective disciples to be effective professionals, to be effective in what God has really called us to do. We tried passing out tracts in the neighborhood. One one year, we passed out 200 huge hurricane kits with blankets and snack food and lanterns and all of that that was great to hit the community with that but God wants to go even further than this community that were in and so to me, that means, how do we converse with that world that we have tried to get away from? How do we prevade that world that we think that we had to come out of? How do we effectively, institute or implement the great commission we preach to each other? We laid hands and prophesied to each other long enough. We eat meals with each other all the time and so now it is time for us to go outside of that comfort zone so that we can re-ally begin to impact the world because the world is not coming to us. Rarely do they come within the walks of the church so what do we do? We have to go get them. We have to go where they are. have to have some knowledge and wis-dom. I want be a part of what is God is doing today. I am here for purpose and it is not to watch people run for from one church to the other (and u know how we do we go to church to church to church) and rarely see new christians coming in church new people saying “I want God,

EDUCATIONAL & CHILDCARE DIRECTORY Keeping Up with today’s High-tech Kids

most kids today are natural techno-philes—gracefully and enthusias-tically adopting technology into

their everyday lives. In fact, a recent study showed that, on average, today’s school-aged children are consuming and using media about 7.5 hours a day.

From first graders to high schoolers, technology is not something children “turn on” after school or on the weekends but is now more than ever an integral and organic addition to life. As their children move seamlessly from computer screens to video games, many parents ask “What is the appropriate level of ‘screen time’ for my child?”

It’s all a matter of balance. According to Janeal Roberts, vice president of educa-tion for Champions, a national provider of online tutoring and before- and after-school programs, “Technology is a powerful tool that can and should be adapted to educa-tion and learning—in a way that is appro-priate and even more exciting for your chil-dren.” In a controlled environment, such as

under parent supervision or within a class-room or after-school program, technology lets parents and teachers tap into the ways children love to learn today.

Today’s technology has amazing and productive applications in education. The key for parents is understanding how and when to use technology to spur their child’s interest in learning and discovery.

Roberts suggests parents consider the fol-lowing guidelines for bridging technology to education:

Source NAPSNET

• Designate computer time with your child. Carve out 30 minutes or so to explore the Internet together. Whether to conduct research for a homework assignment or to virtually explore far-off locations, use the time to navigate the World Wide Web together.

• Encourage creativity. Take photos from a weekend trip to the zoo or museum or from the last family vacation to create an

travel&vacations showcasing the wonders of a Favorite american park

Visitors to one of America’s most time-honored vacation destinations—Yellowstone National Park—now

have the opportunity to learn much more and broaden their exploration of the park.

The recently opened Old Faithful Visitor Education Center features new ways for people of all ages to appreciate this natural, national treasure: hands-on, interactive exhibits, a theater for viewing films about the park, and a special area for kids to embark on their own exploration.

Yellowstone National Park features more geysers and hot springs than the rest of the world combined. The best known of its geysers, Old Faithful, is one of the nation’s most recognized landmarks. Ninety percent of Yellowstone visitors stop by to see Old Faithful.

At the Center, visitors can learn about the park’s 10,000 geysers and other geothermal features. They can discover what makes a geyser erupt, what microscopic creatures thrive in the scalding-hot springs and how the park’s fascinating volcanic past is visible today.

The Center’s exhibits are designed to help visitors better understand the broader ecosystems and natural resources in the park, and why it is so important to protect them.

The Center was made possible through an extraordinary private/public partnership. Hundreds of individuals, foundations and corporations contributed to the Yellowstone Park Foundation’s (YPF) successful $15 million capital campaign to build this new Center, including major corporate support from ConocoPhillips, Unilever, Toyota and Coca-Cola. These donations were matched by $12 million in federal funding.

A fundraising campaign was necessary because government funding only covers the park’s basic infrastructure, staffing and day-to-day operating needs. Private

contributions funded the development of exhibits and enabled the building to be large enough to house them. The Yellowstone Park Foundation is the official fundraising partner of Yellowstone National Park.

Since 1996, YPF has raised $60 million to support more than 200 projects in the park. Such projects help to make visits to the park safer, more inspiring and more enjoyable. Examples include hiking trail rehabilitation, wildlife research and

educational programs. To learn more about the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center or to become a Friend of Yellowstone, visit www.ypf.org.

From inside the old Faithful Visitor education Center, you can see the famous geyser and experience hands-on, interactive exhibits and a special area for kids to embark on their own exploration of Yellowstone.

remember the game you had a MVP perfor-

mance and your team lost? You wondered how could you have such a great perfor-mance and still loose. Well, a MVP perfor-mance mean nothing in a team sport. The MVP player must be a player who not only can score points, but also can in-spire his or her team-mates to excel in their abilities as well. When you think about it, this happens within the realm of Christianity. The church is one body, one team. Sure there are some names of people in the

church that we recognize more than others. But each of us as members must be a good teammate—a most valuable parishioner, so to speak. There are eight qualities that will help you achieve award-winning status with ONE person whose vote really counts.

Initiative• Vision• Unselfishness• Teamwork• Faithfulness• Enthusiasm• Discipline• Confidence•

The challenge we face in being an MVP begins with the qualities we choose. And let’s hope it is a close vote among all the people in the church.

What characteristics do you have that can be an asset to your church? How can you use them to help?

health&wellness

Did you know that one in every six adults in the U.S. has high choles-terol? Or that 80 percent of people

who have had a heart attack have high cholesterol? Having high cholesterol could double your risk for serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes.

What is cholesterol? Cho-lesterol is a soft, waxy fat, or lipid. There are two main sources of cholesterol. Cho-lesterol is made naturally in the body or it can be ingested if it is present in the food you eat. Choles-terol is found in the bloodstream and in cells throughout the body. Although cholesterol is necessary for the body to function properly, too much of it can lead to serious health problems. In fact, people with high total cholesterol have double the risk of heart disease. “Bad” cholesterol is called LDL cholesterol, and it can build up in the arteries and prevent the blood from getting to the heart or brain. HDL cholesterol, on the other hand, is the “good” cholesterol. It

helps carry LDL cholesterol away from artery walls.

The good news is that you can re-duce your risk of heart disease and stroke by lowering your LDL choles-

terol. Although some risk factors such as family his-tory, age and gender may impact your chance of hav-ing a heart attack or stroke, they cannot be changed. Luckily, however, risk fac-tors such as diet, weight and exercise levels can be

adapted to lower your cholesterol—and potentially your risk for heart dis-ease and stroke.

In some cases, exercise and healthy eating are enough to control cholesterol levels. But sometimes these efforts are not enough, and cholesterol-lowering medications may be needed. Control-ling cholesterol is especially important for people who are at a higher risk for heart problems, including patients with coronary heart disease or other cardiovascular disease or patients with diabetes plus other risk factors.

Managing cholesterol with certain medicines has been shown to provide several health benefits, including re-ducing the risk of a first stroke. It is important to talk to your doctor about

any treatment option. Don’t put your-self at risk. Talk to your doctor and take control of your cholesterol start-ing today.

Daphne Bell, wife of former NFL player Todd A. Bell, gives you an all-access pass into her life—a life

that most would assume is a fairy tale—until you peel back the layers.

Death runs rampant throughout the lives of Daphne’s family. Fear is her con-stant companion. With the backlash of such loss, challenges brew in the midst of her very home. She journals: Will my marriage survive? Tragedy duly pro-vides the answer … and the pain nearly kills her.

On the morning of March 16, 2005, Daphne’s day begins like every other day as she heads to her job as a radio personality. Without warning her life

dramatically changes with the sudden and tragic death of her husband … Life interrupted.

Daphne’s frank and brutally hon-est portrayal of her story expands the boundaries of survival, leaving the read-er to wonder: how much can one take.

The Pain Didn’t Kill Me is a harrow-ing yet intimate account of how Daphne transcends devastation and discovers acceptance, peace, and joy.

She now dedicates her life to spread-ing the word about health and aware-ness, so that others may reduce their chances of experiencing the tragic and premature loss of a loved one.

Excerpt:Darkness greets me . . . my alarm clock, set

as always for 3:30 a.m., jolts me. My internal alarm begs to differ. And the light of dawn that usually cheers early-morning commut-ers eludes me.

It’s five o’clock in the morning and the start of my day as a morning drive-show news anchor and radio personality for Radio One Columbus. I enjoy my job. My co-hosts are like family to me. I serve as Public Affairs Director for our station, and I love it. It af-fords me the opportunity to meet and develop lasting relationships with our community leaders. Community service requests pour in weekly. If I don’t check and clear my voice-mail daily, it would fill up by the evening. I listen to every message; but I can’t say that I return all the calls.

Because I’m on the air every day, listeners feel like they know me personally. Along with requests to host or emcee community events, I receive countless invitations to attend fam-ily reunions, weddings, and graduations. Of course, some things touch me differently

than others—and the touch of some things moves me more than others.

I’m asked to deliver a speech for the Af-rican-American Healthy Heart Luncheon, hosted by the Coalition of 100 Black Women. I am quite aware that heart disease is the number 1 killer among women. And most importantly, I feel that this disease is not in the forefront of our minds. It doesn’t receive enough media exposure.

I accept the invitation. I welcome the op-portunity to help create awareness about heart disease because it relates to all women, and we should all be concerned. The organiz-ers of the luncheon don’t mind that I can’t stay long; I promise to do my thing and then leave. They’re just delighted that I can make it.

One month later on Febru-ary 23, 2005, during Go Red Month, I stand here speaking before a sea of black women in solidarity—all so beautifully decked out in red. I share the story of my family history of breast cancer, along with the work I do to support research and awareness about this grave disease. But because breast can-cer is the greatest health scare for most women, I believe heart disease is not recognized as the deadly killer it can be. As devastating as breast cancer is, I want the women in attendance to understand the very seri-ous threat of heart disease. Even though I’m pressed for time, I don’t leave early. I

wind up staying until the end, and I learn a great deal from the doctor conducting the lecture. He discusses maintaining a healthy heart and preventative care.

As I leave the luncheon and head to my next appointment, I so appreciate the light of this heart-filled day. What a great day!

Thank God . . . I cannot see what lies just around the corner.

About Daphne:Daphne Bell is turning her personal

tragedy into a crusade to make people aware of the importance of knowing their family health history and taking all the steps necessary to combat heart dis-ease, the silent killer.

Daphne is the founder and president of Keeping TABs on Your Heart, a non-profit organization she developed after

the sudden death of her husband, for-mer NFL player Todd Anthony Bell.

To help further her message, she also serves as spokesperson for the

American Heart Association and the Ohio State University Rich-ard M. Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

The Pain Didn’t Kill Me is not only about the importance of knowing one’s family health history, but it is also about un-locking one’s family secrets—however painful. Essentially, our family history shapes our emotional, spiritual, and physi-cal lives … whether we know our history or not. Get your copy today at www.daphnebell.com

food&dining Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy [endureth] for ever. Psa 136:25

with after school activities, late workdays and long commutes or carpools, many families

struggle to find time to sit down togeth-er to eat dinner. When they do, the meal may consist of prepackaged or fast food options, which can increase food costs and skimp on good nutrition.

What’s a busy parent to do? While a home cooked weeknight meal may sound labor-intensive, it can really pay-off economically, nutritionally and en-vironmentally – all in the form of left-overs.

Child nutrition expert and mother Jodie Shield, RD, understands the chal-lenges families face in trying to balance full calendars and tight checkbooks while serving nutritious and delicious meals. “Busy moms don’t always have time to plan ahead and make two meals each day,” said Shield. “Transforming last night’s dinner into tomorrow’s brown bag lunch, for my kids or my-self, can save time and maximize bud-gets without cutting corners on nutri-tion.”

Shield’s tips – which incorporate plenty of nutritious vegetables – will help parents prepare family meals that stretch from dinner to lunch:

Presto, chango! Transform last • night’s meatloaf into tasty ta-cos – crumble ground beef or turkey and sauté with taco sea-soning. Enjoy wrapped in a soft whole-wheat tortilla or layered over shredded lettuce as a salad; add diced tomato and onions, low-fat cheese and a drizzle of Hidden Valley Original Ranch Light Dressing. Kids like ‘em hot! Reheat leftover • vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, sweet potato or snap beans) in the oven at 400° F for about 10 minutes. Let cool five minutes, then serve warm with ranch dressing to dip. Get egg-cited for dinner! Serve • your family a backward break-fast for dinner. Use leftover veg-gies like tomatoes, bell peppers, onions and new potatoes, and whip up a southwestern omelet, frittata or quiche.

Homeownership is how many American families accumulate wealth. One reason is that homeowners can take advantage of tax benefits such as the mortgage interest deduction every year at tax time and capital gains ex-clusions when they sell their home.

Over the long term, homeowners also tend to accumulate equity, which contributes to a notable increase in their personal net worth. The most recent data from the Federal Reserve Board shows a homeowner’s net worth is 46 times that of a renter’s.

“There’s a reason homeownership is called the American Dream,” said National Association of Realtors® president, Vicki Cox Golder. “People who buy within their means with the intent to stay in their homes for more than a few years have the opportunity to build long-term financial stability. Homeownership is the first rung on the ladder to building wealth, both socially and financially. A fixed-rate mortgage might last 15 to 30 years;

renting is forever.” Beyond financial considerations,

many people become homeowners to help their families. Nearly four out of 10 recent buyers had at least one child under age 18, and academic studies show homeownership promotes lower juvenile delinquency rates, lower teen pregnancy rates and higher student

achievement. Homeowners can make their houses

more attractive and comfortable and increase the value at the same time. Websites such as HouseLogic.com can provide tips, home improvement ad-vice and how-tos that can inspire hom-

by Dwann Holmes Olsen

I love to see people doing what they love. I love to see people who are passionate about their goals and who are clear about what they are called to do.

But you know what I have a disdain for? I absolutely hate, seeing a person working at something they are clearly not called to do. Even though they and everyone else around them know, how miserable they are, they keep do-ing the same thing day after day, year after year, simply because they haven’t been encouraged or equipped to reach higher.

Have you ever been in or seen a situ-ation like that before?

I see this quite often, especially in some places many would least expect it. Throughout the body of Christ, there appears to be a large segment of people

who aren’t mobilized to fulfill the great commission., There’s a large group of believers who are hearing the gospel but aren’t effectively spreading the gos-pel. There’s a large group of believers who believe that unless they’ve been to seminary or unless they’ve been or-dained they’re not qualified or justified to really bring others into the King-dom.

I mean yes, they can witness to a back-slider but what happens when they’re called to witness to a businessman who’s never been to church? I mean they can witness to a bench-warmer but what happens when the opportu-nity presents itself to witness to a blues band member? I mean they can pray for the choir member who has cancer but what happens when the homosexual living with AIDS walks by? So many of us fake the funk and wear the bracelets that say WWJD, what would Jesus Do …but the truth is, when it’s time to act like Jesus would act, we can’t! Because we’re not Living for the Kingdom.

Heck if truth be told, many of us don’t even realize what it really means

to be found Living for the Kingdom. To be found doing what God has called us to do, at any cost.

But I believe there’s also a group of Christians out there who know what they’ve been called to do, know what it

means to be living for the kingdom, but unfortunately they’ve been discour-aged from doing what they know God is calling them to do, because it’s not traditional ministry. But I’m here to tell you that once we get the true revelation about the great commission and about living for the Kingdom, life will never be the same.

When Jesus gave the great commis-sion to His disciples before he was caught up in the sky each one of them interpreted it a different way. I mean just check out Matthew 28:16-20 or Luke 24:36-49 or John 20:19-23 and even Acts 1:6-8. In those passages you’ll find a different account about the event that each of them experienced at the same time. But despite all the different ways each one of them described what Jesus said, how he said it and what he told them to do … in the midst of it all there are some similarities that can’t be over-looked.

The basic premise or Kingdom Man-date is “Go preach the gospel to any and

of wanting to see these kids succeed. The team is coached entirely by parents and volunteers. The coaching staff consists of Dwayne Logan, Lisa Glassco, Eddie Williams, Chris Santiago, Earl Williams, Sabree Ali, Jonathon Thompson, Alex Holley and David McGee. Since late spring, the coaches have committed to practice three days a week to help train and develop these future Olympians. Every Saturday they are on the sidelines cheering and motivating these young-sters to sprint, jump and throw their personal best and make them proud.

The OHL parents also play a role on this team. These parents watch our child(ren) sweat, complain, cry, fall, get up and try it again. They pack up every Saturday mornings and head to the meets to cheer on and support all the lightning bolts as they compete.

Payne and the Lightning Bolts cul-minated their national experience by enjoying time well earned at Virginia Beach after the final Lightning Bolt com-peted on Saturday morning. Some team members recorded their best times and distances and was fortunate to have one team member medal in her event.

Still young and growing, the Ohio Lightning Track and Field Club pro-duced twenty eight of the nation¹s best athletes and are looking to return next year in New Orleans, LA., site of the 2011 Jr. Olympics. To learn more about

First to represent the 70’s was the Al Green hit”Let’s Stay Together”. Since Al Green was unable to attend, National Recording Artist, Pastor LaMarr Scales performed the song. Next was a song written by Pastor Marvin Winans called “Dreams” performed by one of Pastor Parker’s friends. Then, Pastor Parker takes the mic to sing the 2008 hit by Charlie Wlison, yes I said Charlie Wilson “There goes my baby”. Wow is all I can say.

Bishop H. Eugene Bellinger, World renown Speaker, Teacher & Author, as well as the bishop of The Cathedral of the Covenant in Columbus, Ohio served as officiant & homilist. A unique family ceremony was done continuing to unite the family as one. Following the renewal ceremony, Pastor Andrae Crouch took the stage singing hits such as “Take Me Back”, “It’s Won’t Be Long”, “All because of Jesus” & “Can’t Nobody do me like Jesus”. He also sang 2 new songs “Let the church say amen” led by Amber Wallace & Pastor LaMarr Scales & “He’s So Won-derful” which featured the stylish piano playing of Pastor Crouch.

The night was filled with the spirit of God’s love. It was a night we will never forget!!!! Congratulations Pastor & Lady Parker!!!!!!

fied annually as having sickle cell trait (carrying one sickle cell gene) or related abnormal hemoglobin (red blood cell) disorder, our newborn screener coordi-nates testing to confirm the diagnosis and provides counseling and education to the parents whose child has trait. Indi-viduals who have trait may not become ill, but if both parents carry the trait, there is a 25 percent chance with each pregnancy that they will have a child with sickle cell disease. The newborn screener helps families understand how the disease is inherited, and stresses the need for both parents to know their “trait status” so they will know whether they are at risk of having a child with sickle cell disease.

A genetic counselor is able to help families understand whether they are at risk of having a child with hemo-globin disease. If they already have a child with sickle cell disease, our genetic counselor can explain how the disease was inherited and the risks of having

future children with the disease. The counselor does this by gathering infor-mation about a family’s medical history and coordinating genetic testing in order to gain a complete picture of risk fac-tors. Advanced genetic testing is avail-able when necessary, as well as ongoing education and support regarding family planning decisions.

e-book or online slide show that you can share with friends and family.

• Explore the universe. Go beyond the boundaries of planet Earth with online applications that allow you and your child to learn about the sun, moon, stars and more. For example, make a map of the solar system or look up satellite imagery, maps and three-dimensional views from galaxies in outer space. You can even go on a “geocaching” adven-ture—an online treasure hunt activity using GPS technology.

• Collaborate with your child’s teachers. Talk to your child’s teachers about what subjects are currently being taught or those that are forthcoming, so you and your child can spend time research-ing the topic and connecting classroom learning with discovery at home and out of school.

• Visit sites associated with national orga-nizations. Organizations that focus on education, research or nutrition often house content-rich information on their websites that appeal to children. As an example, visiting NASA’s website lets your child access the Kids’ Club. At the USDA’s site, children can learn about the food pyramid through interactive games.

• Take an online class together at your local library or community center. This will let you and your child learn together and help your child see you as a student as well, open to learning.

• Look for learning-based online programs. To supplement classroom time, look for online academic enrichment programs, such as the Champions Virtual Science Club (www.discoverchampions.com), which lets kids go on a virtual archaeo-logical dig, explore a science laboratory and discover the world of science. With the growing presence of technol-

ogy—from video-sharing sites to online learning programs—kids have even more opportunities for constructive discovery and creativity at their fingertips.

Parents and teachers are in the midst of a significant shift in how to inspire chil-dren. By looking at technology as a power-ful partner, they have an opportunity to incorporate the tools that really interest and excite kids into their everyday learning.

Instead of asking yourself “How much technology is too much?” consider the important balance between uninspired screen time and guided discovery time. Whether it’s conducting research for a homework assignment, creating an e-book or sharing the results of an online science experiment, kids have the interest and the motivation to learn through technology.

Parents and children can learn much and enjoy more when they navigate the Web together.

your home’s facade.• Wash it. Pressure washing particu-

larly makes the house look bright and clean at a fraction of the cost of having the house painted.

• trim the shrubs and green up the yard. Cut down overgrown bushes and replace them with leafy plants and annuals.

• add a splash of color. It could be a flower bed, new paint for the front door or a brightly colored bench on the front porch.

• add a fancy mailbox and house numbers. An upscale mail box and architectural house numbers or an address plaque can give your house a distinctive look.

• repair or clean the roof. Stains and moss can be handled with profes-sional cleaning.

• Put up a fence. A picket fence with a garden gate to frame the yard is an asset.

• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning. Fix hanging gutters, re-place missing bricks on the walkway and make your house shine.new homeowners become part of

The fashion industry is taking a step toward finding a cure for breast cancer—offering a great deal on shoes to raise money for breast cancer re-search.

The Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) and QVC are joining forces for the 17th Annual QVC Presents “FFANY Shoes on Sale.” To date, over a million pairs of shoes have been sold and more than $32 million has been donated to fund cutting-edge research and education at leading hos-pitals and research organizations. Shop the charitable shoe sale by tuning in to QVC from 7–10 p.m. (ET) on Octo-ber 15.

For the month of October, shop-pers can also contribute to the cause by purchasing the “Shoe of the Day” offered each weekday from 7–9 a.m. (ET) or beginning October 1 online at QVC.com (while supplies last). This year, more than 100,000 shoes from over 100 brands will be sold for half the manufacturer’s suggested re-tail price.

everyone on earth” Once you preach the gospel, show the folks you preached to how to live as a believer and expect miracles to follow you, just as they fol-lowed Jesus. But I want to break it down a bit further like this: Preach the Gospel, Live the Gospel and expect Manifesta-tion. Repeat that if you will after me: Preach the Gospel, Live the Gospel and expect Manifestation.

Let’s look at Mark 16:14 - And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every crea-ture. Now remember this is the man-date. And my dictionary tells me that a mandate is an authoritative command or instruction. So that means it’s not an option. But to get an even better under-standing of this thing, lets look at the word Kingdom.

I found 2 definitions that I like the most; one is a realm or sphere in which one thing is dominant; the other is, the

sphere in which one is king or has con-trol. So since we know God has total control of this world, since He is the creator of all things, He is basically the King of Kings. And since we are his chil-dren, a royal priesthood, we are heirs to his Kingdom. In other words we are Kings. We just have to figure out which sphere here on earth we have control in so that we can operate in the full man-date our King has told us to operate in. Clearly when Jesus said go into all the world or even as Matthew put it …into all the nations, Jesus meant ALL and EVERYBODY.

My dictionary says it a few different ways: Being or representing the entire or total number, amount, or quantity THEN it also says: Constituting, being, or representing the total extent or the whole. And last but not least, being the utmost possible!

Unfortunately many of us saved folks

either don’t understand what the word all means or we simply choose to ignore the mandate. So many of us are satisfied ministering inside the church building but are scared to minister outside in the street or in the marketplace. We’re satis-fied with evangelizing to someone who looks like us, but are too racist to min-ister to someone of another ethnicity. We’re satisfied with inviting our cousin to church but can’t gather up enough courage to invite our co-workers. We’re satisfied with ministry in our comfort zones but can’t seem to fathom minis-try in the marketplace. But, I’m here to tell you that until we recognize market-place ministry as a part of God’s plan, we’ll never be able to effectively live for the Kingdom. As soon as more of us start ministering in the marketplace in our God-ordained sphere of influence, then we’ll start truly reaching ALL of the world.

For some of us, our sphere of influ-ence is in Business, for others it’s Edu-cation, for others it’s Entertainment and for some it’s even Government. I mean just think of it like this, how can the wealth of the wicked get transferred to the saints if we don’t have saints mobi-lized and operating in every sphere that exists on planet earth?

Are you mobilized in the right sphere of influence, here on earth?

HonourSTREETLIGHT by chris Branham

Honour means high respect, as for worth, merit, or rank. During this October - “Clergy Appreciation Month, we wanted to share scriptures Search tthat

I desire what you have.”

Its true, manifestation of becoming “fishers of men”PD: Yes absolutely, my pastor used to say the “net” works but you got to spread it, you have to unfold it, you have to get it out there where the fish really are. We’re suppose to bring back fruit, were suppose to bring in fish. If you let the net sit upon itself too long it. If you keeps folding it and handling it, it gets entangled. And you cannot fish with an entangled net and so, we must let God use us and spread us out, spread us out into the world. you know, weve cast our net we fish all night we fish 20 yrs 30yrs, 40yrs and look out we dont have much to offer you. But, we can cast on the other side of the boat and to be on the other side - outside the four walls of the church.

Now thats 21st century evangelistPD: The 21st Century Evangelist! They want God, their hearts are ready, we’ve

got to prepare for the entire harvest. How do I bless people that are not in-side of my church? How do i hear and meet the needs of people that are not coming my church? You have to have some love you have to have some in-sight, you have to have to power of the Holy Ghost in order to do what God has called u to do, effectively.

We thank Pastor Dickerson, Perez In-ternational Ministries for sharing their views on evangelism in the 21st Cen-tury. Just think each of us can make an impact in our communities, on our jobs and in our families. Let’s endeavor to be ready to be servants in this latter day evangelistic move!

The harvest is truly plenteous. Will you be a laborer?
