Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands Plant Conservation Workshop Biology Department Auditorium, University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus 25-27 June 2012 Overview of Participants Workshop attendees included a diversity of audiences including university students (BSc, MSc. and Ph.D.), researchers, faculty members, an emeritus professor, a post doc, natural resources managers and specialists, foresters, an entomologist, agronomists, botanists, a lichenologist, an Associate Dean, herbarium managers and curators, field technicians, private consultants, environmental interpreters, naturalists, environmentalis ts, biologists, and the general public that represented an assortment of affiliations. Nineteen participants traveled from six co untries to attend this workshop, includ ing the US Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Jamaica, and the United States (Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, Washington DC). *The workshop was dedicated to Dr. Miguel A. “Papo” Vives Heyliger who was recently awarded a

 Doctor honoris causa by the UPR Mayagüez for recognizing him as an individual whose

accomplishments are of such excellence that by means they provide inspiration and direction to the

university community. He was also recognized by the University for been widely recognized and highly

valued for his achievements in the botanical field and for promoting strong bonds of collaboration andassisting and educating many students and researchers who worked with the Puerto Rican flora.
