Cut 1—6” x width of fabric (WOF) strip. Fanfold into 6" widths. Sub cut into 4—5" finished squares.

Cut 1—2” x WOF strip. Sub cut into 3—2” x 10-1/2" sashing strips.

Cut 3—1-1/2” x WOF strips. With diagonal seams, sew strips together into one long strip. Sub cut 2—1-1/2” x 12-1/2" and 2—1-1/2” x 45” inner border strips.

Sewing Directions: Press all seams to one side and use ¼" seams. Refer to the quilt image for placement and stitching of applique blocks.

Sea Life Applique Blocks 1. Place the yellow Fish shape on top of a cream 5”

finished square.

2. Position the dark blue small circle for the eye on the Fish shape. Fuse and applique pieces in place.

3. Center and place the orange Sea Horse shape on top of a cream 5” finished square. Fuse and applique pieces in place.

4. Repeat Step 3 for the Crab shape and the Starfish shape.

Sea Life Block 1. Sew one blue and one seashell print 2-1/2" finished half

square triangle (HST) (Shape 5) together as shown. Make 48 HST units.

2. Lay out 12 HST units placed around the Fish applique square, rotating HST units as necessary.

3. Sew the two HSTs from one side together and replace in the layout. Repeat for the two HSTs from the other side.

4. Sew the two HST units to both sides of the applique square.

5. Sew the four HSTs from the top together. Repeat for the remaining four HSTs from the bottom.

6. Sew all three rows together to complete a 10” finished block.

7. Repeat Steps 2-6 using the Sea Horse applique square, the Crab applique square and the Starfish applique square to make three more 10” finished blocks. Note that the HSTs are rotated differently with the Sea Horse and the Starfish blocks.

Assemble the Quilt Top 1. Lay out blocks in one column with sashing as shown in

quilt diagram. Sew together. Press seams towards sashing strips.

2. Sew cream 1-1/2" x 45” inner border strips to the sides of the quilt. Press seams towards the inner border strips.

3. Sew cream 1-1/2" x 12-1/2" inner border strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press towards the inner border strips.

4. Sew blue 3-1/2" x 47” outer border strips to the sides of the quilt. Press seams towards the outer border strips.

5. Sew blue 3-1/2" x 18-1/2" outer border strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press towards the outer border strips.

Quilting and Finishing 1. Layer batting between quilt top and backing.

2. Pin or baste layers together.

3. Quilt as desired.

4. Trim excess batting and backing along the edges of the quilt.

5. With 1/8” seam allowance from the raw edges of the quilt, baste flange strips in place.

6. Add binding, mitering corners.
