Grandparents Day and Book

Week

This year we are celebrating Book Week in Week 5 of term 3. Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia. Each year, many schools and public libraries around Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. This year the theme for Book Week is ‘Reading is My Secret Power’. On Wednesday 21 August, our school will be hosting a Grandparents’ Day and Book Character Parade and for our students and their families. All parents and family members are invited to come along to the Book Character Parade.

With a special invitation extended to grandparents to come along too. Order of Events: 9.05 - 9.20am: Grandparent, parents and caregivers are invited to visit their

grandchild’s/child’s classroom. 9.30 - 10.30am: Book Character Parade. Students and teachers are invited to come to

school dressed as their favourite fictional book character. Students will parade in their costumes on the day, whilst carrying their corresponding book. Grandparents, parents and caregivers and are all invited to come and watch.

10.30 – 11.00am: Please enjoy a Devonshire Tea after the parade in the courtyard (students must bring their own recess).

Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 August, the school will be hosting a Scholastic All Star Book Fair. Families will be able to purchase quality books at great prices, whilst earning money for our school library. The books will be on sale in the courtyard from 8.45am-9.15am and each afternoon from 2.45pm-3.15pm. Additionally the Stall will be open from 10.30am-11am on Grandparent/Parade Day.
