The Importance of Flu Shots This YearInfluenza affects millions of people annually. While every flu season is different, an annual flu vaccine is the best way to help protect against influenza.

To maintain your health, GM encourages you and your family to get vaccinated for influenza. While it’s not a 100 percent preventative measure, the flu shot will provide you with an important level of protection. GM is offering no-cost on-site and off-site flu shot options. Check your plant Facebook page for details.

GM employees (and their dependents) can also get flu shots at local providers, like CVS pharmacy, or your health care provider. The cost of flu shots is covered by our GM insurance, so be sure to take advantage of this important benefit. Please also encourage your family to get a flu shot – it can be an important step to keep all of us healthy.

Personal well-being activities such as exercising regularly, eating a well-balanced diet and getting enough sleep may strengthen your immune sys-tem and lessen the impact of diseases. You can find additional tips on how to stay safe this fall on Socrates.

October 14 is Emergency Nurses Day. It is held during Emergency Nurses Week. This day recog-nizes an important care giver. According to the Emergency Nurse's Association "Emergency Nurs-es Day salutes the dedication and commitment of emergency nursing professionals, who bring care, comfort, and compassion to patients......."

Emergency room nurses see it all. And, often it "ain't good". Yet, they return to work, knowing they make a difference to sick, injured and sometimes dying people that enter the ER each and every day.

Emergency Nurses everywhere, we hope you en-joy this day! By Holiday Insights

ROUNDTABLEConcern about the ESC. Used to be 1 or 2 items on the list. Now seeing 7 or 8 items. We used to be able to take the managers to get taken care of. People are writing ESC in-stead of giving it to the manager to be handled. Writing an ESC should be the last resort. Chad said Rick had some is-sues and sent an email. Appreciates Rick sending the email. It was answered in 8 to 16 hours. Steve said he wants input on how to make this meeting what we want it to be. Chad said when we go to meetings, we focus on what is broke but never talk about what is fixed. Make a quick summary of items fixed. Keith suggested put-ting it in the newsletter. Chad agreed and call it “Safety Wins”.
