About Me…

• 15th year at Solorio* Received my BA degree & Credential University of

Laverne & Masters in reading and I have my reading certificate.

* I have a 9 year old daughter who is attending 4th grade here at Solorio.

• I love being a teacher & teaching 1st grade.

Classroom Conduct/Rewards* Students must follow the posted classroom

rules. * Many rewards will be given (praise, caught

being good tickets, “God Kid tokens.)* If student breaks a rule they will be asked

Tiger Binder

* Binders go home daily and should return to school every morning.

* There are four sections:– Parent/Teacher Communication– Homework– Journal – Poetry

Homework* Students will receive a packet every Monday.* Homework is designated nightly. Journal is only done on

Monday night. 3 sentences & a picture. * Spelling homework includes 4 spelling words and 2 high

frequency words. 2 lines provided to write 2 more words of their own that follow the spelling pattern. All spelling activities must include all 8 words.

* All homework is due Friday. Attach journal & write spelling activity completed. Place in the front flap of binder for easy Friday collection.

• Poetry & sharing are a part of homework. These will be assigned

on a 3 week cycle. The poems stay in the poetry section of the binder. Poems & sharing need to be memorized for their speaking & listening grade.

Tests/Grades

* Students will be given ongoing assessments.

* Graded tests and classroom work will be sent home.

* Any work that receives below a 70% will be sent home, must be signed, corrected, and returned. Sometimes I have already corrected with them.

Sight Words* First graders need to know 150 words by end of first

grade.* A list of 10 words will be sent home. * Students need to read each word within 2-3 seconds of

seeing it. Words will be tested out of order. • Your child will be tested every Friday on their current

list. Practice at home sign and return. • New lists will be sent home as your child passes them. • A/R tests can be taken after all 150 words have been

passed. Information will come home about quizzes. • Students will put a sticker on their robot to keep

track.

* Each student has their own Chromebook. Students also have their own username & password. They will need to memorize them both. Cards will be provided for help.

* Chromebooks will be used throughout the school year to implement centers, Reading A-Z, Think Central (math program) & Accelerated Reader quizzes.

* Reading A-Z and Think Central can be accessed at home. Usernames and passwords will be sent home.

* You can provide headphone or earbuds. If not they are provided by the school.

• Students have been given baskets, scissors, glue, crayons, pencils, whiteboard markers, and whiteboards.

• Wish list will be on newsletter as the class runs out of certain items.

• Wish list is attached to the forms on your desk.

Snack and Lunch

* Snack: Please discuss and pack it separate!

* Lunch: $2.75 Send lunch money in a labeled envelope or baggie. Can pay online as well. – Students must memorize lunch numbers.

P.E & Library

* PE: Wednesday and Friday– Wear comfortable clothing.

* Library: Every Tuesday– Must have signed permission slip– Please send books back to school

everyday.

Other Happenings

• ESPRI- You can check grades. Log on to Espri and register & office will release your password to you.

• E3 Family Fun Run is Saturday, October, 3rd at Central Park.

Star of the Week

* Every student will be Star of the Week

* Students will receive a poster, estimation jar, and our class scrapbook on Friday– Send everything back to school by

Monday

Birthdays

* Students will be given a birthday crown, sticker, pencil, name announced in our morning message & we will sing to them all day!

* No birthday/pizza parties. * If you choose to bring a treat contact me in advance. * You can send a small treat for the class. The district

recommends sending a healthy option for students to choose from as well. No Peanut products due to allergies. Treats will be given out at snack recess.

* Treats must be individually wrapped.

* There are many ways to help!– Classroom helpers– At home helpersFill out the volunteer paper for me &

application form for the office.

first after school. Will stay 1 late day.
