Peninsula tour Suggested start - 09h00

Note there are quite a lot of stops on this route so as to stretch legs, walk around and take in the beauty of the areas around one.

I will collect you at your place of stay and we will leave for the southern suburbs.

Travel via Cape Town centre, Woodstock, Observatory, Claremont, Constantia and Boyes Drive to Muizenberg. This is all part of an inland drive towards the sea through a very "leafy" and green suburban area.

From Muizenberg we move on to Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Simonstown. This part of the journey is all along a most beautiful coastline.

We can stop in Kalk Bay and visit the working fisherman’s harbour watching an auction of fish if this is happening at the time. This will also give you an opportunity to meet some of the local folk in Cape Town thus bringing a personal experience to your journey too.

We then travel on to Simonstown where we take some free time to browse around this quaint Navel village so as to see sights and have fun, From Simonstown we travel to Boulders Beach so as to see its special secret viz. the penguin colony.

From Boulders Beach we travel to The Cape of Good Hope Nature reserve and then up to Cape Point. If you feel energetic we can walk up to the top however if you feel that you want to take it easy you can take the funicular up the very steep hill. At the top of the point we will see the incredible overview of False Bay and I will explain why this is NOT where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic Ocean or why this is NOT the most southern point in Africa. This venue gets wrongly marketed as such.

While on Cape Point we will stop in at the Two Oceans Restaurant where we can have a light lunch before we continue our tour.

From Cape Point we travel on to the wonderful scenic coastline of Scarborough & Kommetjie. We then travel via Chapman’s Peak drive on to Hout Bay. This is a fantastic scenic drive and will definitely become one of the highlights of the day.

From Hout Bay we pay the luxurious area of Leeukoppie a visit so as to see how the super wealthy live in South Africa.

We then travel back to the city via the Atlantic seaboard towns of Llandudno, Camps Bay.

We will then end the day with the grand finale to a wonderful day by ascending Table Mountain and take in the special Cape Town view that the mountain offers inclusive of a wonderful sunset. Rest assured we will do this over a bottle of some special South African concoction (-:) (-:) ?. Btw at this stage most tourists are off the mountain as all tour guides work till 17h00 however NOT the writer of this mail. (-:) All in all this journey is an absolute MUST when you come to my city and as long as the weather plays ball this should be a highlight on your journey.

Straight after our descent of Table Mountain we can visit the Africa Cafe for dinner. The venue represents a great African ethnic eating experience.

After our visit to the Africa Cafe I will return you to your place of stay. Between Table Mountain and the Africa Cafe a better way to end a tour of Cape Town simply does not exist!!! (-:)

Cape Winelands tour - Leave Cape Town at 08h30 or 09h00.

-------------------------

A very important point to mention is that even though wine and wine farms are kernel to the winelands there is so much else to see and do in the area that it virtually becomes a misnomer to call it the winelands. The scenery, history, flora and beauty of the winelands equates the beauty of the wine farms; what I am trying to say is that when one visits the winelands area it is NOT just to see wine farms. Thus this is what I suggest we should do on the day:

Travel via Northern Suburbs of Cape Town; Stop in Bellville and Durbanville area so as to see how the Afrikaners live.

We will travel to the top of Paarl Rock to see stunning overhead view of the Paarl Valley. We will also spend time at the very unique Afrikaans language monument. This monument amongst others represents a very important part of South African history

Move on to winelands.

Move on to Rust en Vrede winefarm for a wine tasting. Laze around for a while on this magnificent wine farm. The setting and scenery on this farm is to die for. This is DEFINITELY one of the best winefarms on the winelands imho and please bear in mind that I am a wine collector and love the whole concept of wine and winemaking. On this farm I will also introduce you to Cape Dutch architecture via the manor houses on the farm.

After our visit to Rust en Vrede we can travel on to the Spier winefarm where our main objective will be that we visit the Cheetah Foundation and everyone can have an opportunity to go into the cages with the cheetahs for a chat, meet and stroke session. Great fun and wonderful experience, even though in my opinion it is a bit "zooish".

We will then travel to the town of Stellenbosch. In Stellenbosch we travel though the town which is the 2nd oldest town in South Africa. It also is my alma mater where I qualified as an engineer many moons ago. The town and university are a wonderful experience to visualize and I can assure you that you, I am sure that you will fall in love with the town. It is nicknamed the "Town of Oaks" and when one arrives in the city centre one will see why this is so. It is also incredible to see how town & gown meets in this university / wine farming town.

We can then sit down and have a light lunch in one of the many sidewalk cafes of Stellenbosch.

After our lunch stop in Stellenbosch you can join me in a visit to Kayamandi. This will turn out to be a REAL township visit and not a commercial type tour. Read on. I suggest that we travel on to visit to a black township, Kayamandi, where we will meet Mzwake Ntoyakme, who is a leader in the township of Kayamandi in Stellenbosch as well as a union leader, at his place of work. Beside all of this he is a bundle of energy and a character second to none. Together with him we will travel through the township of Kayamandi. We will experience township life EXACTLY as it is and NOT in a touristy manner. Nothing is scheduled in a touristy way. The experience just happens unannounced. One sees the REAL TOWNSHIP. We will meet some of the wonderful people of Kayamandi and will be welcomed into their homes and places of work. In essence we will experience the spirit of Kayamandi. I cannot tell you how long the journey will take as it can be anything from 1 hour to 4 hours depending on how we blend in with the people of Kayamandi. Note I say "we" blending in as the blending from the people of Kayamandi's side is concerned is automatic in that they are such warm loving friendly people. I cannot describe this whole experience to you other than by telling you that without fail every visitor that I have taken to Kayamandi in the past has come out raving saying that it was by very far the best part of their whole vacation in SA.

Once we have been to Kayamandi we will visit Moyo restaurant. Moyo is one of the most exciting new restaurants in the country and the word Moyo means "soul" in Swahili. Moyo is a unique African experience and I think that it speaks for itself when I say that I have visited this restaurant many times since it opened in late 2003 and my visitors raved, raved and raved about the venue. WAIT UNTIL YOU VISIT MOYO! You will never ever forget this evening. Of this you have my guarantee.

After our visit to Moyo we will return to your place of stay (Please note that this will probably be at midnight).

Cape Town City drive/walk tour + Robben Island journey -Start time 09h00.

This tour has been specially devised to show you the city centre and its surrounds in such a way that "touristy" attractions are not visited but that the history, architecture, social standards and simply how Capetonians live in their city centre are addressed while traveling through the heart of the Cape Town area. Besides being an accredited THETA tour guide my most important attribute is my very genuine passion for the mother city. Many hidden secrets in the city that very few Capetonians know about will be uncovered for your group. A few of the many examples of this are what the relevance of Alexander Selkirk is to Cape Town, what makes the Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr statue on Church Square a special monument by world standards and why the city is referred to as "The Mother City".

An outline of the tour will be as follows:

Drive up to Signal Hill where from a high viewing perspective you will all have an excellent orientation of the city that they are about to see. This will include a historical perspective of the city and will show factors such as land reclamation in Cape Town, forced removals in city during the apartheid era, architecture of buildings and the skyline of the city.

Travel from Signal Hill into the Tamboerskloof area and stop at the Mount Nelson Hotel. We will walk through the hotel and its wonderful gardens so as to become acquainted with the history of the venue and to understand how this history is heavily interlinked with Cape Town's own history.

Travel to the bottom of Adderley Street by vehicle. Drive up this main road of Cape Town showing the various buildings, monuments and statues that are of vital importance to understand the history of Cape Town. This drive up Adderley Street in certain areas will be duplicated so as to give you a thorough perspective of the area that you are traveling through.

We can then try and find some parking in the city centre and go to the St.George's Cathedral.

We will then take a slow return walk back while viewing buildings such as the Board of Executors building and the Cultural history museum from afar. While doing this I will discuss Cape Town of old with you so as to illustrate how people lived in the city over the past 3 centuries.

We will then drive to the Greenmarket Square area. From the vehicle you will all see the Old Town Hall. In this area are little hidden secrets that so few know of such as to where the exact central point of the city is as well as to where the first fire station was in the city will be unlocked. While traveling past the Greenmarket Square area the relevance of the square in times of old as a city meeting place right up to modern day times as a flea market will be highlighted and discussed.

We then travel past the City Hall, Grand Parade and The Castle pointing out the history and importance of the area to the city of Cape Town.

We will move on to Selkirk Street past the Good Hope Centre and learn about the history and relevance of the road.

Then we travel up to District Six. Leave the vehicle and walk on this hallowed ground where the history of this precious part of Cape Town's history will be discussed. We end the city tour on a high note on the plains of District Six while illustrating why in the new millennium this area represents so many of the new ideals in the development of the wonderful "New South Africa".

This should take us to about 12h30 when I suggest that I take you to a really little hole in the wall restaurant in the middle of Cape Town so as to enjoy a wonderful light lunch of Cape Malay food. Trust me when I say that this is a real little hidden gem that ONLY Capetonians know of.

After lunch I will take you down to the Waterfront Clocktower precinct where you can board the ferry to Robben Island at 15h00. The whole journey to Robben Island is controlled and toured by the Island authorities so you will not be in need of my services when you undertake this journey. It is for this reason that I will be bidding you farewell at this point in our journey as the ferry launching area is within a walking distance of the Cape Grace when you return back from the Island,. The whole Island journey will take you 3.5 hours and needless to say on our saying goodbye I will make various recommendations to you with regard to what you should try and do for the balance of your time in Cape Town as well as eating out suggestions.
