Installation of PosterJet 8.6.1

Please proceed as follows if a previous version of PosterJet 8 has already been installed:

• Save all your individual media profiles first (standard PosterJet media profiles can be downloaded at any time from the PosterJet Live Update Service). Example: if you have been working with PosterJet 8.5 you will find your custom media profiles in the following directory: Directory C:\Program Files\Eisfeld Datentechnik\PosterJet V8 Admin Tool\wwwroot\PJServer80\ App_Data\Printer\<your printer>\<media folder>

• We recommend that you create a backup of the complete printer folder.

• Close the PosterJet Client, then exit the PosterJet Server, by clicking onto the

PosterJet Server tray icon with the right mouse button and selecting “Exit”.

• Uninstall PosterJet Client first, then PosterJet V8 Admin Tool from the software list in the Windows control panel (under Add/Remove programs).

• Once uninstalled, make sure that you delete the directory „Eisfeld Datentechnik“ from the Program Files folder (typically on drive C:\). On 64Bit systems the folder may be found under C:\Program Files (x86).

We recommend that you uninstall the SQL Server 2005 (Express) that is installed on your PC (was required under PosterJet 8.1 and 8.5). PosterJet 8.6.1 runs also with SQL Server 2005 (Express), but is high-performance and more stable under SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express). The SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express) will only be installed, if no other SQL Server (Express) is installed. Before you uninstall SQL Server 2005 (Express) make sure that no other application uses this Microsoft software.

• Uninstall all components of SQL Server 2005 (Express) by selecting the entry

“Microsoft SQL Server 2005” in the “ Add/Remove Program” section of the Windows Control Panels. Make sure option is selected as in screenshot below:

Page 12: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Preparation for the installation under Windows Vista / 7 / Server 2008

• Disable User Account Control

Click Windows “Start” button, type “UAC” in search bar and press Enter key. Move slider to “Never notify”. Restart PC.

Important information!

• Do not install PosterJet from a network drive or through the network (especially not via Remote Desktop). Make sure the files are available locally on the PC that you will be using for PosterJet.

• Make sure you are logged-in as an Administrator during the installation. Under Windows Vista, 7, or Server 2008 right click the Setup.exe file and select „Run as Administrator“. Further information on PosterJet installation under Windows 7 can be found in Support Guide No. 17.

Special case while installing under Windows Server 2008

• PosterJet requires SQL Server R2 2008 (Express) under Windows Server 2008. • Should your Windows Server 2008 be configured as Domain Controller, then a

manual installation of SQL Server R2 2008 (Express) will be necessary (contact Microsoft support in this case or read our Support Guide).

• For the manual installation of SQL Server R2 2008 (Express) please run the following file (to be found on the PosterJet DVD): For 64Bit Windows Operating Systems: <drive>\ SQLExpress2008R2\SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.EXE

For 32Bit Windows Operating Systems: <drive>\ SQLExpress2008R2\SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.EXE

Background Information Microsoft does not recommend the installation of SQL Server R2 2008 (Express) under Windows Server 2008, which has been configured as Domain Controller.

Remote Client Installation The PosterJet Client can either be installed on the local PC (PC with PosterJet Server) or on a remote PC. When installing the Client on a remote PC, it will automatically connect to the PosterJet Server that is running. All that is required for the installation and connection to the PosterJet Server is the correct IP-address of the PC with the PosterJet Server. To install the Client locally, just double click onto the PosterJet Server icon in the task bar and click onto the link for the Client installation. We recommend you use the Microsoft Internet Explorer* to install the PosterJet Client. To install PosterJet on a remote PC the following link needs to be inserted into the window of the Internet Explorer: http://<IP-address>/PJServer80/Client/publish.htm IP-address = the correct IP-address of the PC with the PosterJet Server. The PosterJet Server must be active and running.

If you have trouble opening IE through the link in the Admin Tool you can use the following address for a local Client installation: http://localhost/PJServer80/Client/publish.htm

Page 15: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/3

Support Guide No. 3

If connection problems from the remote PC to the PosterJet Server PC occur, they can be caused by one of the following reasons:

- The Windows firewall blocks the communication between Client and Server. Maybe during the first start of PosterJet the firewall you selected the option “Keep blocking communication“. Check with your administrator how to reset the Firewall entry for PosterJet.

- IP-address of PosterJet Servers is incorrect (check correct IP-address by using the Windows command line and the “ipconfig” command)

- The default Port number 80 is already in use (for example by an application

like Skype). In this case the Port number in the Client and Server needs to be changed. Open PosterJet Admin Tool whilst the Server is not running (stop the Server). Change the Port number (e.g. 81 or 3120 -> see TCP/IP specifications). Attention: this new Port must be open in the local firewall. Plus, the Client must also be informed of the new Port so that a connection can be created. Local Client Installation with different Port number http://localhost:81/PJServer80/Client/publish.htm -> for Port 81 or remote http://192.168.0.20:81/PJServer80/Client/publish.htm Also the Client needs to be informed that the Server is using a different port number for the communication

Client connection to a local Server http:/localhost:81/PJServer80/PJServer80.asmx -> with Port 81

or to a remote Server http://192.168.0.20:81/PJServer80/ PJServer80.asmx -> with Port 81

Page 16: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 3/3

Support Guide No. 3

- Last but not least: in some networks the IP-address is not accepted and the name of the PC needs to be inserted. Example: http://TestPC/PJServer80/Client/publish.htm

The Client can also be installed „manually“, if your browser settings prevent any such installation. Go to the following directory on your PC where the PosterJet Server has been installed and run the following application “PosterJetClient.application“: C:\Program Files\Eisfeld Datentechnik\PosterJet V8 Admin Tool\wwwroot\PJServer80\Client\

* When using Firefox, a “Click Once” add-on needs to be installed.

This is a Microsoft Application Manifest file! PLEASE DO NOT RUN THE SETUP.EXE FILE.

PosterJet's Client / Server - Architecture PosterJet is a so called Client / Server Application. A PosterJet Server is a piece of software that provides the printers connected with printing data. The Server controls all queues (Main print queue, Nest queue) and processes all jobs before printing (Rastering, Scaling, Rotating, etc.). The PosterJet Server is running on one PC and is the administration center of the entire PosterJet printing environment. A PosterJEt Client is the interface of the PosterJet Server and a is the user interface for the operator. Using the PosterJet Client the operator performs all job editing. The Clients provides the operater with information on all queues and messages from the printer. The Client software may be installed on multiple computers. Multiple Client-PCs may be connected at a time via TCP/IP to the PosterJet Server. Some possible PosterJet printing environments

PosterJet 8 Update or Upgrade Before updating a previous PosterJet release to version 8 it is important to check the current version number:

- Any PosterJet version 6.3 or previous: cannot be updated to version 8. A new copy of PosterJet needs to be purchased.

- PosterJet version 6.5 and above (but not 7): can be updated, but a new Dongle must be issued (attention: Dongle Swap will cost € 95,- extra). The old dongle must be sent back to Eisfeld Datentechnik.

- PosterJet version 7 and above: can be updated via internet and email. See procedure below.

How can the version number be checked? The easiest way is to write an email to our support team with the customer’s dongle number. Once we have identified the version number we will reply by email. Please use the following email address to request information on the dongle version: [email protected] How can I identify if the dongle needs to be replaced? Over the years the dongle technology has changed a few times. Only green HASP HL or black HASP TIME dongles can be updated for version 8. They look like this:

Hasp HL Dongle (short and green) that can be updated (only used in version 7 and above). Number of dongle is usually engraved on the front.

Hasp HL Time Dongle (black) can be updated (only used in version 8 and above).

Page 21: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/4

Support Guide No. 5

All these dongles cannot be updated and must be replaced:

Older Hasp parallel key (white or red). Update not possible.

Older Rainbow USB key (purple - used in version 5 and 6). Update not possible.

Older Hasp 4 USB key (dark purple used in version 6). Update not possible.

1) How to update a PosterJet version 6.5 or above (e.g. 6.55, 6.57) to version 8? First of all version 8 needs to be installed. The actual version can be downloaded from our PosterJet web server or can be installed from the PosterJet 8 DVD-ROM. Download link: http://www.posterjet.de/_downloads/MVejSu0/demo_download.php

If required, Eisfeld will send a DVD-ROM to the customer (with costs). Because the dongle cannot be updated, Eisfeld Datentechnik needs to be informed and will issue a new version 8 dongle with the PO. The old dongle must be returned maximum 3 weeks after the customer has received the new dongle. If the old dongle is not returned, the full price for the new edition will be charged (the difference between update and full price). By the way: there is no need to remove PosterJet 6.5 from the customers PC if he wishes to install version 8, but we highly recommend that the PC fulfils the minimum requirements for PosterJet 8 .

2) How to update a PosterJet version 7.X to version 8? A) Customer has gotten an old dongle.

Same procedure as above (version 6.5).

Page 22: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 3/4

Support Guide No. 5

B) Customer has gotten a newer green HASP HL dongle that can be updated. First, the customer needs to install PosterJet 8 (see support document for Server and Client installation, as a Port 80 conflict may occur when PosterJet 7 is still installed). After the installation he will find a menu called “Tools”. In this menu there is an entry called “Dongle upgrader…”. The dongle needs to be plugged in when running the update / upgrade.

Once started, the following window appears:

Page 23: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 4/4

Support Guide No. 5

"Generate upgrade file" This button is used to generate a dongle specific file that needs to be send via email to Eisfeld Datentechnik (we recommend that the file is zipped before it is sent). The directory in which the file will be placed is shown below in the field “Upgrade file”. The path for the file location can be copied and placed into the Windows Explorer if you do not wish to use the “Request unlock code by email” feauture. When sending the email make sure you mention what type of update or upgrade you wish to perform. Also, please always mention the PO number related to the update. "Select Unlock file" You or your customer will receive an “unlock file” from Eisfeld Datentechnik via email. This file is needed to update the dongle. Procedure: - Send the upgrade file per email to Eisfeld Datentechnik. For this, click the button “Request unlock code per email”. Or copy the file from the directory mentioned above and send it via email to: [email protected] - In the case that you qualify for an update/ upgrade, you will receive a so called “unlock file”. Open this file using the "Select unlock file" button. - Confirm the update / upgrade by clicking the "Upgrade"-button. - The dongle update / upgrade procedure is now complete. PosterJet 8 can be used immediately.

3) How to upgrade a PosterJet version 8 (newer features, different plug-in, different edition)? Follow procedure described in 2 B. The procedure to upgrade PosterJet is the same as mentioned above. It is the dongle that holds the information on how many printers can be piloted, which feature is available etc.

Please note: the actual PosterJet version number is PosterJet 8.1 (release G).

Nesting with PosterJet The function nesting helps you to print your files on a medium without wasting space. Depending on the settings PosterJet nests the files and even rotates them to fit best. With setting the maculature you avoid the wastage of paper and increase your productivity. Nest attribute settings:

Nest Type

1. Best fit

The files are nested to use the size of the media to full capacity

2. Best cut across

The files are nested for the best possible cut on the X-axis.

3. Best cut

The files are nested for the best possible cut on the X- and Y-axis.

Page 38: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/3

Support Guide No. 7

Time out every Here you can set the time PosterJet waits before sending the nesting job into the main queue. When this box is activated and there are not enough files to nest on the given maximum wastage the files are being send into the main queue after the time out, though. Maximum wastage When the “time out every” box is not activated the files are being automatically send to the main queue when the maximum wastage is falling below the given value and the nesting queue is started. Please note that if the time out box is set to a value and is expired the files are being send to the main queue without minding the maximum wastage. Minimum Length Here you can set a minimal length, which defines when the files are being sent to the main queue when this value is reached. E.g. if you give a length of 30”, the files are being send to the main queue, when they reach the length of 30” through nesting. Nest gap Here you can set a gap between the single files of a nesting job. Cutter (if appropriate) Here you can set the cutter, if the medium allows to be cut. Now the cutter is used after this nesting job. Allow image rotation, if needed If this box is activated PosterJet automatically rotates the files to assure that less space is wasted. Criteria These boxes show you which medium is used, which size the roll/page has, which resolution and print quality have been chosen.

Image: sample nest job

Page 39: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 3/3

Support Guide No. 7

PosterJet 8 comes with a powerful nest preview and editor which allows the viewing and modification of nested jobs before printing. In this preview and editing tool jobs can be previewed, moved, rotated, deleted or centered just before they will be printed. The nest preview (editor) is activated by a right mouse click on the nest job. Select the option “Nest editor…” from the context menu.

This option is also available for jobs with multiple copies in layout mode.

Hint: files that are moved in their position will snap to invisible magnetic guide lines. If you wish to move the files freely around the paper area please hold the ALT-key (and keep it down) while moving one or multiple files.

Page 40: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 1/1

Support Guide No. 8

Setting a drying time Sometimes it’s needed to set a drying time to e.g. protect your prints from damage. This prevents the cutting from a new printed canvas directly after printing. The print can dry during the drying time before the medium is cut. The damage of the wet print is prevented. To set the drying time open the “Tools” tab in PosterJet and navigate to “Media Manager”. Open the tree of the media you want to set the drying time for (F6 or clicking the “+”) and choose one of the print modes.

You now can set the drying time under “Drying time”. If you need to slow down the printing process for a specific media you may want to choose the option “Drying time while printing”. Please note that once a drying time is set it is always being used when printing with this print mode on this media.

Creating ICC profiles for cut sheet media When trying to create ICC profiles for cut sheets in PosterJet 8, the following problem may occur: in step 6 of PosterJets MediaManager (Print test chart) the test chart is not prepared and set for the media set in the Multi Purpose Tray or Cassette but rather for the media in the Roll selection. This means that the PosterJet MediaManager will place any test chart print job automatically on roll media (changing any previous settings). To still print the test chart on a cut sheet, please follow these instructions:

1. Print your test chart as usual with the PosterJet Assistant, but make sure, the main queue is stopped before launching the job.

2. Switch to the „Media Settings“ tab of the PosterJet main window (in the background) and select the media you wish to profile under Cassette or Multi-Purpose Tray. Confirm your selection by a click on the button with the green tick. Best, if you select „Unloaded“ in the Roll Unit section before.

3. Now select the test chart job in the main queue with one left mouse click. Click onto the job with the right mouse button and select the option „Scale to current page size“ from the drop down menu.

4. The test chart has now been placed on your cut sheet media. Maybe you wish to control if the job has not been scaled to less than 100%. For this, please open the job and control the size and rotation in the Job Submission window of PosterJet 8.

5. Confirm your settings by a click on the „Submit job“-button (green tick). Once you start the main queue your test chart will be printed to the cut sheet loaded in the printer.

Proofing with PosterJet 8 Next to photorealistic output and fine art prints PosterJet 8 is capable to create FOGRA compliant proofs on almost any supported printer. For this purpose, ICC input profiles, based on FOGRA data, and settings in the „Colour“ tab of PosterJet 8 are required. With PosterJet 8 the FOGRA media wedge* can be printed with different proof settings for various printing scenarios, in order to measure and analyze its data. This is done especially to evaluate the quality of an output profile (the lower the Delta E deviation from the reference value, the better the output profile). On top of this, one can use the media wedge to analyze changes in the print conditions over time.

Before you start, please download the reference profiles from the ECI website for the offset print environments that you would like to simulate: http://www.eci.org/doku.php?id=de:downloads If you wish to create a proof based on the ISO Standard 12647-2:2004/Amd 1 (FOGRA 39L) please install the „ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc“ profile under Windows while the PosterJet server is switched off. First download and unzip the „ECI_Offset_2008.ZIP“ file from the ECI website. Select the file „ISOcoated_v2_eci.icc“, and click it with the right mouse button. Select the option “Install profile” from the drop down menu. This procedure can be repeated for all other reference profiles, whether from ECI or not, that you wish to install. By the way: install means that the profiles are automatically copied to the following Windows system directory: C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color\. Once PosterJet is re-started, it will read all the profiles located in this directory. All that is left to create proof prints with PosterJet 8 is to make the right settings in the “Colour” tab of the submission window (see screen shot below).

Page 45: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/2

Support Guide No. 12

Image: „Colour“ tab of PosterJet submission window Particularities:

- When working with RGB output profiles (printer receives RGB Contone data) only RGB simulation profiles can be selected. We from PosterJet recommend RGB Contone for all Canon and Epson printers, as this method guarantees the best results. Anyway, we do not recommend the use of any RGB simulation profile for printing. That makes no sense.

- The above shown settings are only valid, when printing pure CMYK files. Once files are printed with CMYK and RGB data, we recommend to switch to “Advanced...” settings and to set the rendering intent for CMYK (Absolute) and RGB (Perceptual) separately.

The media wedge can best be analyzed using the ProfileMaker Measure Tool from X-Rite. * The FOGRA media wedge is not part of PosterJet 8 and has to be purchased separately.

Creating custom media profiles using PosterJet 8 It is easy to create custom media profiles for Canon imagePROGRAF printers using PosterJet 8. To do this the following requirements must be fulfilled:

- You own a color measurement device that is supported by PosterJet 8 (Spectral photometer): X-Rite Eye-One Pro, X-Rite Eye-One iO, X-Rite ICColor, X-Rite DTP 70, DTP 45, DTP 20, GretagMacbeth SpectroScan.

- You own the PosterJet profiling module.

Please proceed as follows: Launch the PosterJet 8 Media Manager (Menu „Tools“ -> „Media Manager…“). Choose the measuring device from the menu „Tools“ -> „Choose measuring device…“. Click the "+" button to create a new media.

The profiling wizard will now be launched.

Page 47: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/9

Support Guide No. 13

Click „Next“. Step 1 of 8 of the profiling wizard will be launched.

Step 1: Enter a meaningful name into the "Media Name" field. This media name will appear in the PosterJet Media Settings afterwards. It is recommended to incorporate brand and product description (or order number) into the new media name. Select the media type corresponding to the media you would like to profile. Important: the selection of a dedicated media type indicates the black ink type (Matte black or Photo black), ink limit, and print quality. If you have any questions regarding the proper

Page 48: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 3/9

Support Guide No. 13

media type, please ask the media manufacturer for more information. The Media type selected is also the front panel setting that must be selected in the printer during the loading of the media. Click the „Next“ button.

Step 2: Print quality selection. A PosterJet media may contain multiple print qualities. For every print quality a dedicated media ICC profile must be created. The complete workflow described in this document must be performed for every single ICC profile (= print mode). For the Canon iPF printers we highly recommend the Dithering option „Contone RGB“. Choose the desired resolution from the "Resolution" drop down list. From the "Print quality" drop down list choose the desired print quality. The combination of these three parameters represents a PosterJet print quality (a single print mode for a single media). Complete step 2 by clicking the "Next" button.

Page 49: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 4/9

Support Guide No. 13

You are now directly guided to step 6: Selecting and printing a test chart. Select the desired test chart and click on the "Print test chart" button. Depending on the measuring device the printed test chart will look different. To print the test chart please make sure that the main print queue of PosterJet is running and the respective media is loaded into the printer. PosterJet will now print the test chart. Click the "Next" button. The measuring device will now be calibrated. In step 7 you will be asked to measure the test chart. After measuring the chart click the "Next" button.

Important note: In case you are using an Eye-One measuring device please make sure you are always measuring from left to right and never backwards.

Page 5/9

Support Guide No. 13

Step 8: Creating the new profile. Only modify the default settings if you are familiar with the options provided. It is recommended not to change the default settings. Click "Next" to create the new profile.

You will be asked to enter a name for the new profile. Otherwise you can accept the proposed profile name by clicking the "OK" button.

The new profile will now be calculated

Page 51: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 6/9

The profile was created successfully and stored on the hard disc. Close the wizard by clicking the "Finish" button. We recommend you quickly check the new profile for errors. Please click with the right mouse button onto the print mode in MediaManager that you just profiled and select the option ‘Profile viewer’ from the context menu. Check that the new profile is correct and does not show any errors in the geometry.

The new profile is now available on the PosterJet Media Settings tab.

PosterJet Server will not start In rare cases it may happen that the PosterJet Server will not start – even if the TCP/IP Port has been changed or the software has completed been re-installed. The purple Server Icon in the Windows taskbar appears, but the Server doesn’t want to start (Start-button jumps back).

In this case it is highly probable that the Windows SQL database files have been corrupted (not to be mistaken with the PosterJet database files). Only deleting the files will help. To delete the Windows SQL database files please open the following directory: C:\Dokuments and Settings\<User>\Local Settings\Application data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS

Delete the content of this folder and restart the PosterJet Server. Once you have successfully restarted the Servers the Start-button will grey out and the Stop-button will be active.

Reprinting jobs from the Job History onto a different media As soon as a job is reprinted from the Job History onto a different media than originally selected the message ‘Media not loaded‘ will appear. Please check entry under ‘media settings‘ in the status bar of the main queue. The job has been paused and PosterJet 8 will not reprint it automatically. Example: The job ‘Winter.jpg‘ was originally printed onto ‘Adhesive Matt Stretch Vinyl 270my‘. With a mouse click on the ‘Submit‘-button (see red circle) in the Job History the job can be resend to the main queue for reprinting.

If, in the meantime, the media has been changed in the printer and in the PosterJet tab ‘Media settings‘, e.g. from ‘Adhesive Matt Stretch Vinyl 270my‘ to ‘Matt Coated Paper 140g‘,

the resubmitted job in the main queue will be paused and the status message changes from ‘Ready‘ to ‘Waiting for media‘.

Page 57: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/3

Support Guide No. 15

To print the job anyway with the correct settings for Matt Coated Paper 140g proceed as follows:

- Double click the resubmitted job in the main queue with the left mouse button to open the PosterJet submission window.

- Change to the tab ‘Printer‘ and select the currently loaded media from the media list (in this case: Matt Coated Paper 140g *). Hint: the currently loaded media is marked by a star.

- The job can now be submitted by clicking onto the green submission button

- Eventually, you will have to adjust the scaling of the job if printed onto a different roll size. Attention: is the new roll (Matt Coated) smaller than the roll that was originally used (Stretch Vinyl) you must confirm manually to rescale the job to the new roll size (job will now be reduced in size!). For this, click with the right mouse button onto the job in the main queue and select the option ‘Scale to current page size…‘

Page 58: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 3/3

Support Guide No. 15

- This adjustment affects the size of the job and will adjust it to the current roll size. You may at any time change the size manually by opening the job in the submission window (double click the job entry with left mouse button to open submission window). Before printing always check if the job is at exactly the size needed when performing the Scale to current page size option.

- The job is now ready for printing. To start printing just start the main queue by clicking the Start-button.

Working with PosterJet templates In order to increase productivity even further when submitting jobs in PosterJet 8 templates can be generated and applied to transfer a wide range of settings to a single or multiple print jobs with only one mouse click. Job templates are files that contain all job parameters like scaling, number of copies, borders, color management settings etc. Job templates can be applied to any file and for any kind of job in order to facilitate job submission even further. Example: You wish to submit a series of jobs with identical settings without having to open each job individually and make all the necessary settings. Here, PosterJets job templates are the right tool. Once created, one or multiple jobs can be selected and with only one mouse click a specific template can be applied, changing all parameters of the job(s) to the one in the template. To create a job template please proceed as follows: Open the „Media settings“ tab of the PosterJet main window. Select „Unloaded“ from the media list and confirm your selection by clicking onto the green ‘Submit’-button. With this you ensure that your template will later work with any media in your media list.

Now select a file (any) by clicking on the green ‘Plus’-button. The same way you would submit a regular print job to the main queue.

You will now be asked if you wish to continue, since no media was selected (“loaded”). Please confirm with ‘Yes‘ (see screenshot on page 2).

Page 60: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/6

Support Guide No. 16

The job submission window will open as usual. Please set the needed value for any setting that you wish to change in later jobs. Change things like the value for scaling, number of copies, borders, rotation, alignment, color settings, type of crop marks, cutter yes/no, layout yes/no, and many more. Provided that you leave a value unchanged, PosterJet will later use the default value for this setting. Example for the alteration of values in the ‘Layout‘ tab of the PosterJet submission widow.

You are free to change any setting in the PosterJet submission window. Once you have completed all your entries, choose the option ‘save template’ from the ‘File’ menu of the submission window.

A new window will open and you will be asked to enter a name for the newly created template. We recommend you use a name that perfectly describes the template settings, so you will remember them once you wish to use them in the future.

Click the OK-button to confirm your entry and to save the template. If you now wish to print a series of jobs with identical settings proceed as follows:

- Select a media in the ‘Media settings’ tab of the PosterJet main window on which you wish to print the jobs (e.g. Matt Coated Paper 120gr).

- Select the file(s) that you wish to print (you can add multiple files to the PosterJet main or nest queue via drag & drop. Or just click onto the ‘Add’-button in the queue and select multiple jobs from the file manager window with the SHIFT- or CTRL-key (exactly like in your Windows explorer).

Hint: PosterJet ‘Hot Folder‘ work in perfect harmony with job templates. Any PosterJet Hot Folder can have a job template linked to it. This feature allows the installation of a fully automated production (also on multiple printers!). In PosterJet you will also find a Template Manager that allows you to store, delete, or edit your templates. The Template Manager can be found in the ‘Tools’ menu of the main window. In addition so called color templates can be created that will only modify the color settings of jobs (same settings as in ‘Color‘ tab of PosterJets submission window) but leave all other parameters to default.

or

Page 64: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Hint: you can make any template your standard one for your complete workflow (all files that are added to PosterJet for printing will automatically be changes to the values stored in the template. Example: cutter always ‘off’). For this, open the printer settings in the printer list of the main window (double click on printer in list on left side of the window).

double click here Change to the ‘Default’ tab and select any template to become your new job or color standard.

From now on all jobs added to the main or nest queue will automatically be changed to the settings defined in the template selected above. Of course, you will have the flexibility to still modify any setting individually at a later stage once the jobs are in the main or nest queue (double click, open job submission window and change setting individually).

Color management with Adobe Creative Suite When exporting files from components of Adobe’s Creative Suite you must ensure that the correct color management settings are chosen in the preferences, otherwise you will obtain wrong output (wrong colors, or too dark colors etc.). To check that you have selected the correct settings please perform the following little test: Open a file in Photoshop that you know well and save it as Tiff format. Don’t forget to save it with the option to embed the ICC profile. Now print the file with PosterJet. Import the same file in InDesign. Save the file as PDF and print it with PosterJet. If the prints differ in color the settings in InDesign are incorrect and therefore have to be changed. How to change color settings in InDesign:

1. Choose the entry „Output“ -> „Color Conversion“ -> „No Color Conversion“ in the export window.

Page 72: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

The line you are looking for should look like this: <add name=“PasswordExpiryModule“ image=“C:\Windows\system3\RpcProxy\RpcProxy.dll“ /> Add a space behind the entry Rpc.Proxy.dll and insert the following string preCondition=”bitness64” (may already be there under Server 2011 – please check). The edited line should now look like this:

Save the file and quit. Step 5 Right click on SBS2008Step2.bat and select Run as Administrator. The command window will now open and an IIS reset is performed automatically. The command window is closed shortly after. You have now made all settings to host PosterJet under the IIS. Following procedure is recommended to make sure your changes were successful:

- Open the Server Manager and highlight the folder PJServer80. Click the option Browse *:80 (http). The Internet Explorer will open and the address http://localhost/PJServer80 will be shown.

- Extend the address to http://localhost/PJServer80/PJServerV8.asmx and press

Enter. You know PosterJet Server is working correctly if you now see the blue headline of the PJServerV8 and its methods underneath. If you see a red page with Error in the headline you must have done a mistake. Please check step by step and repeat the instructions until the server works as required.

PosterJet 8 with IIS hosting under Windows XP This documentation describes the installation of PosterJet 8 with IIS (Internet Information Services) under Windows XP (32 and 64 Bit). The PosterJet Server can be hosted either by PosterJet V8 Server Hosting or IIS. We recommend installation of PosterJet with IIS hosting on any server operating system (e.g. Windows Small Business Server 2003), reason being that the IIS is running as a service, whilst the V8 Server Hosting is running as an application. High volume customers with multiple printers who frequently submit jobs via HotFolders should install PosterJet only with IIS for reason of better performance. Important installation requirements:

• The installation must be performed under administrative privileges over the computer (Login as Administrator)!

• No matter if the PosterJet installation with IIS is performed on a 32- or 64Bit Edition of Windows XP, it is absolutely necessary that you only use the setup.exe file of the 32Bit PosterJet installation!

• Previous PosterJet installations must be uninstalled prior to the installation of version 8.6 (please read Support Guide 02 for further information). If the previous PosterJet version has been hostet under IIS, it is important that you also delete the Standard Website and the Virtual Directory (read below, before you start).

Activate IIS Services

Please open: Control Panels > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS)

Page 113: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Seite 2/10

Support Guide Nr. 25

Page 114: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Seite 3/10

Support Guide Nr. 25

- Draft - Production Normal - Production Best - Max Quality

zur Verfügung.

Page 115: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Support Guide Nr. 25

Page 117: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Seite 6/10

Support Guide Nr. 25

Page 118: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

PosterJet Tri-Side-Cut (TSC) Plug-ins Using the PosterJet TSC Plug-ins you can print your images borderless on three sides that only one side must be cut manually. It's necessary to understand the functionality of TSC Plug-ins. To use PosterJet TSC Plug-ins efficiently please read carefully the following chapters. Features: A PosterJet TSC Plug-in is a dedicated printer. A Canon iPF 6100 Plug-ins and the iPF 6100 TSC Plug-ins are handled the same way in PosterJet a setup with an iPF 6100 and an iPF 8000. Using an optional SimuPrint licence this architecture enables you to install both Plug-ins, the iPF 6100 and the iPF 6100 TSC, simultaneously. You than can simultaneously put jobs into the iPF 8300 and into the iPF 8300 TSC printer queue. PosterJet manages all jobs and feeds it to the respective printer Plug-ins one after another automatically.

A TSC Plug-ins prints at least three sides of an image borderless so that only one side must be cut manually to achieve a complete borderless print (the regularly PosterJet printer Plug-ins and also the original Canon printer driver only prints borderless when the image is printed with full media size). This functionality is very useful when it comes to tiling jobs (e.g. Wallpaper printing). Using the TSC Plug-ins you can print oversize wallpapers completely borderless without having to care about overlap. Requirements: - A working PosterJet 8.5 or 8.6 installation is required. For both versions separate TSC Plug-ins are available. We do not provide TSC Plug-ins for PosterJet versions older than 8.5. - TSC Plug-ins are available for the following Canon iPF-printers: 6100, 6300, 6350, 8000, 8000s, 8100, 8300, 8300s and 9100. You must owe the common PosterJet Plug-ins for the respective printer to install the TSC Plug-ins. The respective printer must be connected and available for use. - Before installing the TSC Plug-ins you must update the normal PosterJet printer Plug-ins for the respective printer using the PosterJet printer and media update.

Page 129: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 2/3

Support Guide No. 28

- Jobs to be printed with the TSC Plug-in must have a height of 20 cm at minimum. This is for technical reasons of the printer and could not be changed.

- To use the TSC Plug-ins you must also use dedicated TSC media which can be downloaded free of charge via our update service. Common PosterJet media are not compatible with TSC media. - You must use a roll size that is available for borderless printing on the respective printer. This roll size must exactly fit the available borderless printing widths. A 42" roll must be displayed as a 42" roll in PosterJet. On a roll size displayed as "Custom roll" the TSC Plug-ins will not print borderless. The standard borders will be applied. Hints: - It depends on the respective printer on which sizes borderless printing is possible. It is for example not possible to print borderless on a 60" roll on a Canon iPF 9100. - It's not obligatory to activate the check box "Borderless printing" within the PosterJet job submission window.

Page 130: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Page 3/3

Support Guide No. 28

- Corresponding to the common borderless printing functionality a margin of 3mm is applied to all sides of a borderless print. To print a tiling job without a gap or an overlap it is necessary to set a vertical overlap of about 6mm from within the tiling tab of the PosterJet job submission. To examine the actual value it is necessary to perform some test prints. This is due to little aberrations between printers and media. TriSideCut Plug-ins are available for the following Canon printers only: - iPF6100 - iPF6300 / 6350 - iPF8000 - iPF8000s - iPF8100 - iPF8300 - iPF8300s - iPF9100

E) Create a PosterJet Media Profile based on custom media type settings using Canon SU-21 Spectrophotometer After the creation / import of a custom media type (media information file *.ami1) using Canon Media Configuration Tool© into your printer, PosterJet 8.6.1 is now ready to use the new media setting in order to create an ICC-profile based on the new paper parameters. Proceed as follows to dynamically create a new media type in PosterJet (e.g. Custom_GP240g): Please load the roll paper by selecting the newly created / imported media setting from the printer front panel (e.g. Custom_GP240g for your custom Glossy Paper). The so called “extended media type” number (in brackets) is shown in the PosterJet 8.6.1 „Media Settings“ tab. You will need this number later (here 0xFF01). Hint: This “extended media type” is only shown for a selected custom media.

Now open PosterJet Media Manager from the Tools menu.

Page 153: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Seite 23/39

Support Guide No. 29

Now create a new media profile by clicking on the Plus-button (see Support Guide No. 13). Make sure the original clone settings (Standard Paper) that were used for profiling the custom paper in the printer are selected here too. Example: in the Media Configuration Tool© the setting “Glossy Photo 240g” was used to create our “Custom_GP240g” custom media profile. For the creation of the PosterJet media profile the “Standard Paper” setting from Media Configuration Tool (here “Glossy Photo 240g”) must now first be selected.

Once the media profile (not ICC-profile) has been created you must change the “MediaExt Type” in the Media Manager (here from 0x014d to 0xFF01). For this, please click on the paper name in the left part of the window and press the F5 key. Repeat this procedure in order to enter the editing mode in the right part of the window (see screenshot below).

Page 154: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

F) Measuring a test chart printed on any large format printer using Canon SU-21 Spectrophotometer The optionally available Spectrophotometer SU-21 enables the measurement of test charts that were printed on any other large format printer, not iPF6450. The following chapter describes how to print a special test chart for example on Canon iPF9400 and thereafter measure it on a Canon iPF6450 with SU-21 Spectrophotometer. From the measurement data obtained by the SU-21 an ICC-profile will be generated using PosterJet 8.6.1 and finally imported for the use with the original Canon iPF9400. Proceed as follows: Please load the paper roll in the printer of your choice (e.g. Canon iPF9400) and select the corresponding media type on the printer front panel. Now open the PosterJet Media Manager and create a new media profile for this printer (see Support Guide No. 13).

Important: Do not change paper feed adjustment or other length affecting parameters as

the test chart may otherwise not be measured correctly on the Canon iPF6450. A paper feed adjustment may be useful, because a correct paper feed is necessary for measuring the test chart (see Printer Manual). Now follow the instructions to print the special PosterJet test charts with the name

Linear Printfile Universal Printer SU21 (XOrder).tif for media with roll width smaller/equal 24" (610 mm)

or

Linear Printfile Cutout Universal Printer SU21 (XOrder).tif for media with roll width greater 24" (610 mm)

Unless stated otherwise the following text refers to the test chart for roll media smaller/equal 24":

Important: make the following settings in the Job Submission Window in the order described below:

- In the “Layout” tab ensure that scaling is set to 100%. - In the „Color“ tab make sure that „Color Correction“ is set to „Linear”. - Deactivate automatic cutting after the job has been printed. To do so remove the

checkmark for the field “Cutter” in the “Printer” tab. Hint: if media is used with a roll width greater than 24" the cutter can remain switched on.

After editing the settings please click on “Submit Job” (Button with green checkmark).

After an appropriate drying time eject the roll paper leaving the output on the roll (that is

why we recommend that you use a 24” roll). Important: At the beginning of the roll paper a black cutting line is printed along the paper width (scissors symbol). Please cut away the first part of the paper by cutting the paper clean and straight along this line.

Page 159: PosterJet 8.5 / 8.6 Support Guide

Now load this previously printed roll paper in the correct direction (printed paper shows in your direction) into the Canon iPF6450 using the option “Load Roll” (NOT cut sheet).

Select any media type on the printer front panel (not necessarily the corresponding one) and wait until printer is ready.

Hint for roll media greater than 24": Please load this test chart as "Roll Media" into your printer, too. Please take care of the correct position. Go to the “Tools” menu in PosterJet and choose the option “Select Measurement Device“. In the list of devices choose the “Canon Spectro SU-21” and click on “OK”. If the measurement device is not available please follow the instructions in Support Guide No. 29 section D. Now create a new media profile in PosterJet using the Canon iPF6450 (see Support Guide No. 13). To do so, switch to Canon iPF6450 as active printer and open the media manager and create a "DUMMY MEDIA". For further information please check Support Guide No. 13. Hint: The transfer of the later calculated ICC-profile to the iPF9400 will be explained later

in this document. Please note that both test charts were made only for RGB profiles, so you have to choose the "RGB-Contone" mode (see below).

Replacement of Microsoft SQL Server by PostGreSQL

Using Microsoft SQL Express (2005, 2008 or 2012) in combination with PosterJet may in certain cases not be desirable, possible, or just not recommended. This Support Guide describes how to replace an existing Microsoft SQL Server by a highly sophisticated database engine called PostGreSQL.

Requirement: PosterJet installation / version 8.6.1 (other versions not supported at present).

Procedure:

Close PosterJet Client and Server (respectively “PosterJet Admin Tool”).

Open the following link in your browser and download the archive file with the PostGreSQL engine (about 176 MB) onto your hard drive.

http://213.160.11.51/FileServer/PosterJet_PostGres.rar

Unzip the archive file using WinRAR (www.winrar.de) and execute the following batch file ”Install_PJ_Postgres.bat“ with administrator privileges.

Important: Executing the batch file using the option “Run as Administrator” may in certain cases not be successful (Error message after installation "Path not found" or „0 files copied“), because Windows privileges prevent the script in rare cases to write the necessary data to the correct program path. As a result the PostGreSQL “Data” folder will remain empty (required program files were not copied to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\data\).

In this case please open the Windows Console (CMD) as administrator and execute the file by means of command echo. Right click on entry “Command Prompt” in the start menu (Start > All Programs > Accessories) and choose “Run as Administrator”. Alternatively press the keys [Win]+[R] on your keyboard, enter the letters “cmd”, and run the command prompt (automatically as administrator).

As soon as the installation has been completed you will be asked to press any key to finalize the installation. Now that PostGreSQL has successfully been installed, you can run the PosterJet Server and then Client.

The replacement of Microsoft SQL Server by the highly sophisticated PostGreSQL engine can help to save valuable computer resources and contribute to a higher stability of PosterJet.

Should the Microsoft SQL Server not be used by any other application you may at any time delete it following the instructions provided by Microsoft (see this Support Guide for further information) in order to free additional PC resources.
