Welcome to the November/December edition of the Positive Ageing Together
newsletter!
Seniors Festival has come and gone, with over 100
activities across the Frankston region!
The Positive Ageing Team would like to extend a big
THANK YOU to all the Seniors Clubs, Community
Groups and organisations that offered activities
within the festival. Without your input, the festival
would not be nearly as successful.
To any club, group or organisation that would like
to be involved in the 2017 festival, please give Carly
a call to find out how. We would also like to
recognise and thank our fabulous volunteers who
generously donate their time to ensure events run
smoothly.
We also want to thank our major sponsors; the
Victorian Government and Sai Home and
Community Care, as well as our single event
sponsors, Stockland Retirement Living for making
Seniors Festival a possibility. The Positive Ageing
Team has been busy putting together another jam
packed newsletter
with activities to
keep you busy over
November and
December.
We would like to
wish everyone a
happy and safe
Christmas, and we
hope to see you all
throughout the New Year!

Stop travelling con men
Consumer Affairs Victoria are advising people to be aware of travelling con men. Travelling con men are
dodgy tradesmen who knock on doors of homes and small businesses, offering to do maintenance work.
They appear more frequently during the warmer months and after natural disasters such as floods, fires or
storms. Travelling con men offer to do such jobs as driveway resurfacing, painting, roof repairs and carpet
cleaning at a cheap rate. Often they pressure people offering today only specials. These people ask for
cash before starting the work and frequently leave soon after they receive payment. If they do work it is
often unfinished or of a poor standard.
Be suspicious of people doing any of these things. If you suspect a travelling con man is knocking, do not
answer. If you do speak with them, ask them to leave. If they refuse to leave, they are breaking the law. If
you need work done around your house shop around for a quote, used established tradespeople, ask for
contact details, do not sign any contracts until ready, ask for the tradesperson’s full name, registration or
license details (if applicable, so you can check with their industry authority). If you know of a travelling
con person in your area, contact the National Travelling Con Men Hotline 1300 133 408.
