Three Parts of the Tabernacle

Ex 25:23 Thou shalt also make a table…

• First mention Principle: First use of the word table. Ps 23: 5

Exodus 25 : 23 …..two cubits shall be the length thereof and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof …

• Divine standard: All things must measure up to it

• 1 ½ cubits : Ark of the Covenant, brazen altar and the table are all the same height

• Fellowship with God on the

basis of the sacrifice on the brazen altar and blood on the mercy seat

Exodus 25:28 … And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal: of pure gold shalt thou make them

• Dishes: used for holding the bread ( Num 7:13; 18-19; 25)

• Spoons: Hollow vessels of gold with incense in them.

• Bowls and Covers: Num 28:7.

Cups, contained wine poured out as a drink offering

Ex 30:9 – Used solely in connection with the shewbread.

Emblems: Pointed to the NT table and emblems.

Ex 25:30 – And thou shalt set upon the table shewbread before me alway • Shewbread: Means to “tell forth”; to

declare. Jn 1:18 Ministry of Christ who declared God

1 Cor 11:26 Ministry of the Church to shew forth His life, death and resurrection.

• Continual Bread: Our daily bread.

Matt 6:11.

• Bread of the Presence: The presence of the Lord in the Table of the Lord.

Mat 18:20.

• Bread of Order : 2 Chron 13:11. There was order at the Table.

Lev 24:5 – And thou shalt take fine flour

• Divine recipe for the loaves of bread

• Bread of Life: God’s provision through our journey

12 Loaves (Lev 24:5): one for each tribe. Enough for everyone

• Bread replaced regularly: Need for the Word each day

Church is still feeding on the revelation• Bread a symbol of Christ’s body

– Made of fine flour. Made by grinding against two stones. A picture of suffering

– Lev 24:5 Baked in heat. Judgment of God.– Unleavened: Sinless perfection– Zech 12:10 Ring shaped and

perforated (pierced cakes)

Golden Candlestick: In the Holy place. Ex 25: 31-32; 37- 40

• Lord Jesus Christ as the

light of the World

• Candle stick represents the Holy Spirit. Heb 4:12– Reveals the other two

furniture in the Holy Place– Holy Spirit illuminates the

Word of God. – Only light permitted by

God

• Wholly metal: Candlestick and laver both wholly metal

Candlestick made of gold. Revelation of His Son is the work of God

Golden Candlestick: symbolic meanings

• Difference between Candle Stick and Candle Stand

Candle burn by self-consumption Lamps burn by the continual supply of

oil

• Filled with Oil: Sufficiency of the Spirit of God, given to the believer

• Made of beaten gold: Ex 25: 31. The suffering of Christ The purifying work on the Church Refiner’s fire and the hammer that is Word

of God

• Placed inside the Holy Place: Christ is hidden from the world and revealed to the believer

Golden Candlestick: symbolic meanings

• Light to Minister: without light a priest cannot minister at the altar

• Seven Branches: The Centre shaft feeds the others.

Our sufficiency is only in His efficiency• Use of His: Jer 23:5; Is 4:2; 11:1-3

Fed by the main shaft (called His thigh)Branches are called “His Branches”Jn 15:5 – I am the Vine, ye are the Branches

• No measurements: same applies for Brazen Laver

Cannot measure the light or revelation of God the power of the cleansing of the Word of God

Golden Candlestick: symbolic meanings

• One piece: Made of one piece of gold Heb 10: 7-12 -- One sacrifice for sins 1 Tim 2:5 – One mediator Jn 14:1-6 -- One High priest 1 Jn 1:5 -- One light

• Divinely lit: Lev 9:22-24 Human responsibility: kept lit by the

priest continually Church divinely lit on Pentecost

• Side : Church proceeds from the pierced side of Christ, even as Eve was taken from the side of Adam

• Pure Olive Oil: Ex 25:6; 27:20; 35: 14, 28

Greek of oil: Chrisma or anointing.

• Gethsemane: Means Oil or the Olive press

• Trimming (Ex 30: 7-8) Aaron dressed the lamps, trimmed the wicks.

Jesus our High Priest performs

the ministry of trimming, taking away burnt-out areas, supply the oil for shining brighter

Altar of Incense: Ex 30:1 In the Holy place

• On the west side, next to the veil

• Incense was constantly offered. Sweet incense to the Lord always.

• Occupied the central position in the Holy Place .

Christ is the centre of all things.

• Heb 2:18 Closest we can come to God– Rev 8: 3-4 Christ adds incense to our

prayers– Heb 9:24 Continual intercession for us

• 1 Pet 1:5 Place of prayer. Kept by faith in God

Altar of Incense: Ex 30:2 Symbols

• Acacia Wood: God-Man. Mediator

• Two cubits high: The highest piece in the tabernacle

Ministry of intersection of Jesus Christ, the highest ministry on behalf of the Church

• Horns: (Habb 3:4) Power, authority and Kingship.

Death: For the horn to be used death had to take place

Acacia Tree

Ex 30:7-8 “ and Aaron shall burn thereon sweet incense every morning: When he dresseth the lamps, he shall burn incense upon it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations.

• 2 Chron 29:7 Offer incense every morning and at even as he attended to the Golden Candlestick.

• Only Priest can minister 2 Chron 26:16-19 King Uzziah presumed to unite the offices Rev 1:6. In Christ we are made priests unto God

• Ex 30:9 – no strange incense thereon. God accepts only the incense that originates from Himself on the basis of Blood Atonement

• No Burnt, Meat or Drink Offering upon this altar

Ex 30: 37-38 “… And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof: it shall be unto thee holy for the Lord. Whatsoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.”

• No substitutes: True worship must be in truth and spirit. Jn 4:24.

• Day of Atonement: Ex 30:10. Blood applied to the horns of the altar.

It is Christ’s blood (our sin offering) that was shed on Calvary (Brazen Altar) which is the basis and foundation of His ministry of Intercession (Golden Altar)

Why no incense now?• Is 1:13; 66:3 That incense would be an

abomination. Now not the natural symbol but only the Spiritual reality.

Summary: Learning

• God prepares a table for us and we are to feed on the Bread of Life

• Measurements teaches us that God has divine standards and expectations – exact measurements and no strange fire.

• It is Christ who keeps us from falling

• During the sojourn the outside world does not know the beauty of our Lord

• We are to be filled by the Holy Spirit to be useful for God

• The Trinity is at work in the Church

• God uses the refiner’s fire and the hammer the Word of God to purify us as pure gold

• As priests when we feed on the Lord through the illumination of the Holy Spirit, the result should be to worship Him

• Our worship should be in spirit and truth
