the need In 2007, the students and faculty of Stanford University had already proven the feasibility of a Green Dorm, formed a commitee, proposed an initial design, and begun fund raising. I was given the task of improving how the Green Dorm will respond to the culture of its specific residents. I discovered that while the building will incorporate a multitute of stustainable practices, the existing design included no concrete recycling system, neither in the broad nor specific sense.
a closed nutrition cycle - produce is harvested, cooked, eaten, and composted back into the produce garden;an efficiently planned, pleasant recycling room;direct accessibility from the recycling room to the kitchen, garden, dining room and deck;an easy process for both the socially conscious and baseline college residents;an innovative system that supports the Green Dorm mission of social and environmental awareness;and flexibility needed to accommodate future technologies and needs.
