flood during time perspective

Flood comes as time goes by. Temporary water in the field becomes permanent; dikes keep the field at first, but become fields themselves; fields become water bodies that disconnect with river.

HEALING LANDSCAPEnew fish farming system

Healing landscape is located in the south of Ca Mau city. A new kind of floating fish pond and aquaponic system are introduced in this area.

poisonous shrimp farming

In this area, highly poisonous shrimp farming took place. Part of the land was heavily polluted. With the effect of com-ing sea level rise, this area was the least productive or livable land.

floating community

By adding new waterways to the traditional fish pand, a new environmentally friendy fish pond system is created, working together with the aquaponic system as the new water economy in this area.

With the new water economy introduced, a new kind of floating settlement is generated. Settled both on the water edge and within the floating fish pond system. Land connected to those floating houses is elevated to be a safe land during the flood, on which school, market and fundamental facilities are located, creating a new floating cmmunity.

topography

Dig new canel to connect the fish pond with the river.. Cut in the water front to make it easy for the water float. Fill the land on the west of the road, to make a higher land that stays safe when the flood comes.

knowledge for sustainable remediation

Long term remediation of the damaged soils and landscapes are led with new and increased knowl-edge from the localized bio research center, providing a basis for future landscape productivity and capitalization. New large scale cuts provides opportunities for a sustainable fish production in both floating structures on the new waters, and with aquaponic technology on the land edge.

Different kinds of vegetation are used in this area. Seaweed is used for taking out of the overused ferterliser.Mangroves with the ability to keep some of the poisonous elements are used to taking care of the conteminated area. Both kinds of the vegetation we choose have the

The situation of site in Drammen have some environment problems. Firstly, it locates at river side and meet water problem because of flooding; secondly, sound pollution effect the site because train station set behind of site; thirdly, the site disconnect with city centre. But water is also positive thing in this site. So, in my project, I tried to deal with problems as above and fouce on using water to make landscape and developing the quality of site.

From mapping project, I got information about rain water path. So, my hypothesis was changing landform to deal with flooding situation and also connect with water path. On the one hand, new land-form provide more protection area for construction, on the other hand, rain water can be bring into site to crate more landscape for people who living there.

The function of site will be changed from industry area to living area. I tried to retain almost all dwellings and also some factories. Because the typology of factory is different with other buildings in Dram-men, so, I was thinking to take advantages from factories and historical garden to built public district which would be attractive

PUBLIC SPACE

CONCEPT

In order to protect area from floodings, and take advanteges from rich rain water, my idea is using “cut and fill” to separate site into 3 part with different elevation(3m, 4.5m, 6m). This small terrace provide safe land for buildings on river bank and also creat wetland landscape by rain water for resident there.

Land with 3m heighThis part locates on river bank and it focus on public service buildings. This is important water transporta-tion center and provide good connection between both sides of river and city center as well. I reserved most factpries and rebuilt them in public service functions.

Land with 4.5m heighI kept most of existing residences on this part, and design to plan rowhouses on this area. All of build-ings in this area are less than 4 floors to adapt old buildings.

Land with 6m heighThe middle-rise building with mixed funcion s de-signed in this area, in order to protect the whole site from noisy of train station which locates next to the site.

Brief on Project

In recent years, most Chinese cities are undergoing transition. As for how to planand design new city zones, we chose to conduct studies on Gulin County, a typical example among those cities. Situated in Sichuan Province, it plans to a new city zone to the East of its ancient city zone. I planned and designed its landscape of core areas of its new zone.

Design principles:

Approach to public art works involved in urban planning, creating new urban landscape.

Problem AnalysisGulin town planning requires from two aspects1. The transmission image of the city's own special2. In order to adapt to the changes resulting from urban development and innovation

ConceptD N ADNA is the carrier of genetic informationGeneGene is a genetic effect of DNA fragmentsGene has two characteristics, namely, a copy of his faithful, to maintain the basic biological characteristics; Second, genes can be "mutated"

ImageSelect the double helix structure of DNA to the carrier of symbolic image of the city Gulin, Gulin will belong to the "gene" arranged around it

Page 33: Portfolio-Yao

Gene duplication------unique Gulin city presence

Special relation between architectures and streets

Gene mutation-----present issues about the city, requiring customized changes

Scale sense of public space

Page 34: Portfolio-Yao

NEW CITY

OLD CITY

The county develops from west to east along the river valley.

There are two main east-to-west traffic roads across the city and one south-north main landscape axis .

This landscape axis, the only integral south-north axis for the future Gulin County, is of paramount importance in this city.

Site Analysis

Design process

Design Method

1. Partition MethodRegionalize the two main lines and divide areas from the center point. And conduct radial segmentation with theses sub-areas

2. View AnalysisThe height difference of the two sides is 20 meters. I want to maintain sight permeability during sub-area design. Therefore building height is limited with 20 meters high.

3. Optic CenterThrough visual analysis of the high point, visual center point is set. These visual center points are the emphasis of the whole sub-areas.

4. Functional Division

1. ThemeHow to design two main linesFunctions in need?leisure education business Accommodation workPublic accommodation in need?Mall, Hotel, Square, Museum, park, Folk Experience, Office Building , Restaurant Entertainment Area

2.ImageryThe area which has a function of entertainment should be large, so the two respects should be based on the principle of entertainments to run through the whole site.

Page 35: Portfolio-Yao

model analysis

1. Analysis of regional location

2. Functional stratified analysis model

3. Structural analysis model

4. Detial design

5. Local building structure model analysis

Because the city is on mountains, the relationship between streets and buildings is not a simple dyadic relationship, which makes it more interesting.

After having known the living conditions of local residences we find that the public spaces in this city can no longer satisfy them. With the develop-ment of this city .we should care more about the importance of the public

spaces.
