DESCRIPTION
Portfolio showing selected design projects from my last years as Master student at the TU Delft University - Holland - and freelancer for the Microsoft Innovation Center of Turin.TRANSCRIPT
My name is Enrico Moccia, an Italian designer born in a small city near by Turin. During my youth drawing and playing with Lego has always been my passion and my hobbies. A feeling I never quit in my life and that still grows in me day by day.
At the age of 17 years old I understood that Design was the path to follow. Motorcycles and electronic products have always attracted me, but my passion for design go over this. Design is everything and everywhere. It is about people and how to create solutions able to ful ll their needs. The real passion is to create.

Versatile helmetfor motorcycle.

Versatile helmetfor motorcyclists. My passion for motorcycles led me to conduct this product from the basic concept of creating a kind of protection that could be as adaptable as possible to the user needs. The user, using the helmet, can change and transform it in order to suit his needs and preferences.

T he design project is a versatile and customizable helmet through the use of individual elements.
In this way the user could form 8 different types of helmets and by replacing the individual elements every day a different
helmet can be created. The target is young people and others who are attracted by the possibility of having a customized helmet. This could be a must
if the user owns several motorcycles: depending on the type of motorcycle that he drives, he is allowed to wear the appropriate protection through the simple addition or
replacement of some parts. Versatility and customization are in fact two of the guidelines of our project. Furthermore the concept of a basic helmet for the realization of 8 different ones is environmentally friendly and sustainable in terms of production; this minimizes the resources used by the company and the materials used for construction of molds.

Design process. The project was much appreciated and provided
a future collaboration with AGV (helmet manufacturer world leader).
This final project gave me the opportunity to discover better the motorcycle world, in particular the helmets one: a sector of design
that has always fascinated me. Furthermore it gave me the chance to acquire knowledges about the real composition of a helmet and, thanks
to the collaboration with the Project Leader, also the industrial processes related to the helmets production.
Solid geometry. The Solid Geometry was been chosen as icon of the Exhibition “Piemonte Torino Design” in 2008, the year of Torino World Capital Design, after that eight countries and eleven cities hosted the Exhibition in less than two years.

During the year 2008, the Microsoft Innovation Center of Turin was involved in some product activities with the TEMA con-sortium constituted by Telecom Italia (biggest phone operator in Italy) and Magneti Marelli (biggest electronic manufacturer for automo-tive industries in Italy)
The design of the user interface were assigned to a team of three designers. During my work I had to collaborate with this two other designers, and in particular I had to design the user interface of the SMS Reader Application.
We succeeded in this activities and the PND was showed at the Motor Show 2008 of Bologna.
One month after, also TIM (the most impor-tant mobile operator in Itlay), being really delighted by this project, decided to start producing this device.
This PND was sold in TIM Centers in Italy with the name of EasyRoad 3G.

In August 2008 the Microsoft Innovation Center of
Turin selected me as designer for the interface and
graphical appearance design of a Connected Portable
Navigation Device that had to be used in car and
outside of the car.
In this project I had to elaborate and design several
applications as Application Manager, Flight Stats
Application, Traffic Information Application, Events
Application and Content Manager.
The device, showed at the Motorshow 2008 of Paris,
was been used as satellitar navigator for Fiat 500 and
Alfa Romeo MITO.
BaBoat. The BaBoat is a project led for the Children Design course during
the master in ‘Design for Interaction’ at TU Delft University. The concept is based on the Reversal Theory of J. Apter.

he final concept is a balancing boat with two glove-oars and two inflatable arm bands for safety. It is designed for playing
mainly in a swimming pool. The boat consists in two parts: flexible outer layer and inner air bags. There are many ‘pressing points‘ surrounded by colorful rings. These rings are designed as use cues indicating ‘where to press or play with’. But not all of them are connecting to the real valves. In this way children don’t know which one is the
functional one, which increase the difficulty as well as excitement.
Children can play together with individual boats, trying to release air from others’ boat and make others fall into the water. They can make their own stories and rules during play. A lot of opportunities and funs are waiting for them to explore.

During the course of Usability Test and Redesign, conducted during the Master course in Design for Interaction, we had the commission to redesign the Net TV application for the Philips TV 9000-series.
The main focus of the project was the interface design of this application and the user interaction with the product; that Philips would like to implement from a graphical and interface usability point of view.During the design process we designed a first version
of the Net TV, we tested it with several users and then we elaborated a final version of the interface. A final user test allowed us to draw some final conclu-sions and recommendations.
During the final presentation Philips was really delighted by the final concept and, thanks to this result, we received the proposal to conduct an intern-ship or a graduation project to the Philips Television and Home theatre department in Eindhoven.
Interactiveechnology Design
For the Interactive Technology Design course the team had to design a new
interactive pavilion for the visitors of the ‘Beeld en Geluid Museum’ in Hilversum.

Visitors at the exhibition.
Educating visitors about the history and develop-
ment of ‘Image and Sound’ was the main focus
of the project. Based on this, the concept ‘The
Rise of the Radio’ was generated.
In this pavilion six radios are shown each repre-
senting another decade. A radio can be selected
by jumping on the start-button and then visitors
can select a music fragment by walking over the
frequency bar. After that ,visitors can score points
by answering the question that pops-up which is
related to the music fragment. In the mean while
a projection on the screen shows how the radio
was used in the selected decade.
The project was developed using Arduino
platform. Here I could get knowledge about
programming and I had the chance to develop
the concept since the beginning, improving my
personal prototypical skills too.
During the project I took the role of designer and
prototyper.
