100 key luxury resort, villa and

spa complex located on Gucheng

Island.

The design for Lishui Resort found a home

at the intersection between green design

practices, modern architecture and the

traditions of Feng Shui.

The projected created a series of

environments and experiences ca-

tered to the needs of the varied guests

who sought out the city’s unique

water culture and natural beauty.

B’07 SIOUX CITY BUS SHELTER sioux city, iowa, usa | iowa state university | lead designer

As a service project, we were asked to design a proto-

type bus shelter for the city of Sioux City, IA.

The design for the shelters is centred on a series of

layered typologies. The first layer, structure, is

based on the locally prominent building types:

“Storefront” (blue) & “Industrial” (yellow). The

second layer is the result of studying local

architecture patterns: Buxton (blue) & Elmslie (yellow).

After our initial design process we worked closely

with local steel manufacturers to laser cut and

powder coat the panels. The project was finished and

installed in August of 2007.

With a provided building footprint, we

were asked to develop a program, interior

and building envelop for a hotel on a bluff

near Dubuque, IA.

The designed program called for a gal-

lery on the main floor, a spa (a prereq-

uisite of the project) on the second floor

and a below ground restaurant with a

windowed edge appearing over the bluff.

After winning the studio competition,

the project won the National Hospitality

Design Competition Student Catagory.

UC’10 JINING RESORT, SPA & VILLA jining, shandong, china | woods bagot | designer

75 key luxury resort, villa and

spa complex located lakeside in

Jining, China.

The focus of Jining Resort

was to create an architecture

driven by the lakeside culture but

with a strong focus on design,

function, and form that the

complex could stand on its own

as destination spot for business

and recreation alike.

“SILK ROAD” MIXED USE lanzhou, gansu, china | woods bagot | designerR F P

Planning Competition: 5*, 3*, office,

and service apartment in Lanzhou,

China.

Designed to replace the

older Lanzhou hotel, this new

complex worked as a new

commercial and lifestyle centre for

this city in western China.

Two proposals both detailed unique

thoughtful approached to the city

geography, culture, local building ca-

pabilities, and Lanzhou goals for the

future.

Our studio was asked to design a hotel and cultural centre

that embraced the urban landscape of Downtown Chicago.

The project took shape in the form of a Music-Hybrid Space

(sized in between a symphony hall and a music hall) and a

300 room upscale hotel.

Placed on a plot of land on the Chicago River, the

Music-Hybrid Space acts as a glowing beacon pressed

against the massing of the hotel structure. The Hotel also

boasts a restaurant and spa located in the uppermost

extrusion of the hotel and is reached by the circulation core

that travels out of and back into the main structure.

SUNING UNIVERSAL MU kunming, yunnan, china | woods bagot | designerIN SCHEM. D.

Suning Universal Mixed Use in Kunming, China.

This series of concepts won a schematic contract for a mixed use

development in the heart of Kunming, China. The development combines

an office/hotel, service apartments, and a retail podium space. The project

also creates a sunken plaza to connect to the local mass transit system and

green spaces for pedestrian use.

One proposal presents a twisted tower with two convex and two concave

sides. The podium of this option reflects the same sinuous curves. The

second option presents a smooth, curved facade wrapped around a faceted

louvered facade. In this version all four faces use a glass patterning that ties

back in to the textile patterning native to the region.

Chairman’s Office of Fengsheng, Inc in Nanjing, China.

The schematic and detail design of Fengsheng’s Chairman’s office led to

this interior fitout in Nanjing, China.

The project held to the purity of modernism, respecting the nature of form

and material to create dynamic plays on light and space. The office itself

was over a 1000 sq m. and featured staff and conference rooms, as well

as a full executive bathroom and massage room, and game room.

No amenity was spared, including radiant floors, a hybrid cooling system

(comprised of a cooling slab and central air), and high end security and

automation.

AREA interiors is a joint Canadian Chinese venture

dedicated to selling high-end European home furnish-

ings.

The showroom took over an old tool factory from the

seventies, in the middle of Shanghai’s bustling

shopping district.

The design uses raised stages to draw the user to the

settings and deeper into the structure.

Epoxy floors throughout, muted lighring details, and

grand stone staircase create a backdrop for the

amazing design pieces being sold and highlight some

of the original and unique architectural elements of the

original structure.
