Official Newsletter of the Alamo Chapter of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International

From the President Submitted by: Alfred Flores

The last couple of months have been quite busy for

your president. As many of you are aware, our 2011club

car show has moved to The Shriners Temple off loop 1604

and Blanco Rd. We have committed to Saturday Sept 17.

The contract has been signed and flyers are in the process

and we hope to have them ready very soon. If you have any

suggestions or input before final release of the flyer please

get with Jeff Butz.

Our January meeting held a big surprise for our club

that Tuesday night. It seems we have been cursed again

with having to find another meeting location. Our members

showed up to find that BJ’s restaurant was closed for busi-

ness. Locked doors and a for lease sign was what greeted

us that night. Some club members have made a great effort

in doing the research to suggest new locations. The good

thing is some members have come together to enjoy each

others company for dinner. Frank & Penny put out an invi-

tation for members to try Earl Ables new location on Austin

Highway. I was able to join them for dinner as well as Don

Smolleck, and Mike Prescher. We had a great time and the

food was great albeit a bit pricey. Earl Ables is a great op-

tion but I will be looking at other locations. If you happen

to have a place in mind let me know. The optimal meeting

location should have a meeting room for at least 50, plenty

of good parking preferably in the line of sight of the meet-

ing room. Good food at a reasonable price is also a plus.

By the way, if you haven’t noticed we have a new

Newsletter editor. Penny Bryant has been a member for

about a year and Our January newsletter was her first publi-

cation. At our January meeting we were able to use the

Sonic indoor dining are near BJ’s to hold our meeting.

Thomas will be updating our web site with several auto re-

lated events that have been set for the 2011 season.

Dave Pelzel has been in contact with San Antonio

Raceway and has set a date for our club sponsored spring

Pontiac shoot out. Make sure you leave Friday April 22

open for the big race event. San Antonio Raceway has

loaded this date on their web site so spread the word.

24th Annual Buicks & Bluebonnets Tour

Salado, Texas

Stagecoach Inn Grounds

The weekend of April 8-10, 2011 is the 24th an-

nual Buicks & Bluebonnets tour in Salado, Texas. It is to

be held on the Stagecoach Inn grounds. The Lincoln club

is also participating. They will show their cars in front as

usual and we will have the rear parking area available for

the Pontiac Show. Contact information is Rod (281) 454

-6715 or John (281) 424-1989 evenings after 7 pm.

There is a new Holiday Inn down the street from

the Stagecoach with room to show cars. This was an al-

ternate facility from the Stagecoach and would have been

the contracted facility but for now the Buicks remain at

the Stagecoach Inn.

This information was sent to us from Mark

Waterman, our friend in the Lone Star Chapter POCI and

he is inviting the Alamo Area Chapter to join in the fun.

Salado is a great place to visit and it should be a lot of

fun. As more information becomes available we will pass

it along.
