Pomp’s, headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, sourced the 30,000 sq. ft. speculative building in the park to house their new original equipment tire mounting operation. This strategic location will allow Pomp’s to secure new clients and serve a multi-state region around Estherville. Pomp’s Tire started operations with five employees and hopes to expand both the facility and number of employees as new customers are secured. Pomp’s also operates retail tire stores in Cedar Rapids, Dyersville and Sioux City, as well as 73 other locations in the Midwest. Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative provides electrical service to Pomp’s Tire and the Estherville Industrial Park. This was the fifth speculative building constructed by the Estherville Industrial Development Corporation. Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative has helped to finance the construction of these speculative buildings. Speculative Buildings Generate Growth IADG’s rural electric cooperative partners have collectively supported building 71 speculative buildings which have provided 2.1 million sq. ft. of industrial space for business growth in rural Iowa. The majority of these buildings are occupied and more will be available soon. Hampton, Staceyville, Iowa Falls and Perry all have speculative buildings in various stages of planning and construction. A griVision has selected Winterset as the new location to house their sprayer prep and maintenance operations, beginning this fall. AgriVision’s new facility is a 106,000 sq. ft. building located on 21 acres of land in Winterset. AgriVision is a John Deere dealer with locations in 13 communities in south central and south western Iowa and clients in Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri. The Winterset operation will support all of these locations. Winterset Municipal Utilities will provide electric power to AgriVision. The event drew more than 100 people, including customers, local distributors, Humboldt community representatives, and members of the Precision Tank board of directors. This state-of-the-art plant manufactures fiberglass and stainless steel tanks. With the Humboldt addition, Precision Tank can now manufacture 30,000 gallon tanks in fiberglass, stainless steel, or mild steel. Key industries purchasing from Precision Tank include agricultural, fire and petroleum customers. Precision Tank is housed in a new 34,500 sq. ft. building located on a 10-acre site. This is Precision Tank’s fourth location and first in Iowa. The company is starting out with 14 full-time employees at their Humboldt location. Midland Power Cooperative provides electric service to Precision Tank & Equipment.

Monogram Prepared Meats (MPM) is expanding theirfood processing capacity in Harlan. MPM is installingand integrating an additional production line toaccommodate demand, increaseoperating efficiency, and reduceworker fatigue. The expansion alsoincludes an upgrade to theircomputer network. MPM, a division of Monogram FoodSolutions, cooks and packages a variety of ready-to-eatbacon products. Both Northwest Iowa PowerCooperative and Nishnabotna Valley REC are providing$1 million pass-through loans secured through the USDARural Economic Development Loan & Grant (REDL&G)program to support this project.

KnoxvilleHospital &Clinics, acommunitybased, non-profit hospital,will be undergoing a facility renovation. The Knoxvillecampus renovation will include demolition of a portion ofthe facility to accommodate a 19,500 sq. ft. buildingaddition which will house a centralized lobby, newphysicians clinic for primary and specialty care, andspace for rehabilitation services. Additionally, 27,000 sq.ft. of existing space will be remodeled to serve as theinpatient unit, surgery department, emergency room,and three-room walk-in care clinic. Five additional full-time positions will be created. Pella Cooperative ElectricAssociation is providing a $1 million pass-through loanfrom the USDA REDL&G program. Central Iowa PowerCooperative (CIPCO) is also extending a $300,000 loanfrom USDA REDL&G funds, and $60,000 from theirorganization to support this important project.

The Gilbert Franklin Township Fire and EmergencyResponse Agency will be constructing a new 10,700 sq.

ft. facility to house thefire/emergencyresponse department,city hall, and multi-purpose communityroom. This project willalso include space tohouse future employee

and technology upgrades to accommodate projectedcommunity growth. Midland Power Cooperativeprovided a $360,000 loan to support this project. Thisloan was extended based on a $300,000 grant from theUSDA REDL&G program and $60,000 in matching fundsfrom Midland Power Cooperative. Ultimately, thesefunds will be added to their existing Revolving LoanFund to support community and economic developmentprojects.

The John Wayne Birthplace Society hasundertaken an aggressive effort to open a full-fledgedmuseum to honor Mr. Wayne, his accomplishments and

his goal offighting cancer. Anew 5,500 sq. ft.building will becomplete this fall.Farmers ElectricCooperative hasprovided a

$200,000 grant from the USDA REDL&G program and$40,000 in matching funds to support the interior buildout of the facility and creation of displays to housepersonal items, movie memorabilia, and other displaysthat demonstrate the enduring character and patriotismof Mr. Wayne. Five new jobs are expected to be createdto staff and maintain the new facility.

Spencer Municipal Utilities is providing a $360,000 loanto Seasons Center for Behavior Health (SCBH) for therenovation of a 9,000 sq. ft.building to be used as aRegional Children’s Center for therapy and counseling.The Regional Children’s Center, which will be the first of its kind in the state, will provide specialty treatmentservices for children and their families in a state-of-the-art facility. The facility will incorporate child-friendlydesign to help young minds heal and grow. Thisexpansion project creates 10 new full-time positions tosupport their expanded healthcare and educationalprogramming. Upon repayment of the loan, these fundswill go into a Revolving Loan Fund that will benefitadditional rural development projects in the region.

The City of Waukon will soon have a new fire station toreplace the current facility, which no longer meets theirneeds. Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative isproviding a $680,000 loan secured from the USDAREDL&G program. The new 15,000 sq. ft. fire station will

be situated on 2.5acres of ground thatwas donated by theWaukon EconomicDevelopmentCommittee. TheWaukon Area FireProtection District,serving the City ofWaukon and eight

rural townships in Allamakee County, will beginoperations in the new building in early 2015. The firestation will house fire trucks, specialized vehicles,equipment for the fire district, and serve as the meetingspace for fire district meetings.

Seven RECs Secure $4.78 Million in USDA Funds

The Fulfilling Iowa’sNeed For Dentists(FIND) initiative is

in its sixth year ofassisting dental studentsestablishing practices inIowa. FIND is committedto connecting dentistsand under-servedcommunities with the resourcesneeded to combat Iowa’s dentalshortage. The map illustratesprogram success through the 31dentists who have chosen to practicein Iowa. FIND can provide up to $100,000 in dentaleducation financial assistance to new dentists dedicatedto participating in under-served areas of Iowa. as one of Iowa’s first Certified Sites by the Iowa Economic

Development Authority,as well as successfullyfostering business andcommunity growth in the region. Midland PowerCooperative nominated IFADC for this recognition. The IADG Silver Shovel Award program has been

significant in many ways. It has recognized theaccomplishments of 25 outstanding economicdevelopment programs and talented individuals acrossIowa that are adding to the strength and vitality of ourstate. The IADG Community Foundation also awarded$25,000 ($1,000 to each organization) to strengthensupport to business and community projects as a part ofthe program. The IADG Community Foundation (IADGCF) was the

first community foundation in Iowa with a statewidegeographic commitment. After a decade, IADGCF is stillactively supporting its original mission to advanceentrepreneurship, community betterment, leadershiptraining, and economic development. Zinpro Corporation,which manufacturesminerals for poultry

and livestock feeds,recently held an openhouse to celebrate theopening of their facility in the Butler Logistics Park near Shell Rock.Zinpro acquired a 30,000 sq. ft. speculativebuilding to be used fortheir warehouse andconstructed 30,000 sq. ft. of additional space to housetheir manufacturing operation. They cited access to railand an available speculative building as key factors intheir location decision. Zinpro expects to employ 39people at this new facility. Zinpro joins AmericanColloid Company International as tenants in the ButlerLogistics Park. Butler REC provides electric power tothe Butler Logistics Park.
