POLITICS TRIP TO NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON

AIMS

• To gain a more detailed insight into the organs of power (Congress, Presidency and the Supreme Court are at the heart of unit 4 at A2)

• To gain a better understanding of American politics, attitudes and culture

ITINERARY DAY 1SAT 28TH MARCH

• 0315 Minibus Departure from Cattle Market to Heathrow• 0540 Check in T5 • 0840 Flight UA923 depart LHR (Baggage allowance 23kg)• Breakfast and Lunch provided

Reminders:• One item of hand luggage maximum 23x36x56 cm• Liquids must be in individual containers, no greater than 100ml

capacity• All liquid containers must be placed in a transparent, re-sealable

bag (ie. with a zip or pressable seal). The bag must be no bigger than 20cm x 20cm (8ins x 8ins), and a maximum of one litre in capacity

• No “pointy” items – includes nail scissors etc.

• 1530 Arrive at Hotel Pennsylvania – unpack• 1730 Orientation walk around local area• Dinner in Grand Central Station

(included)• 2000 Early night! It will have been a long day!

ITINERARY DAY 2SUNDAY 29TH MARCH 

• 0715 Breakfast at Mustang Harry• 0900 Subway to Ellis and Liberty Island• 1200 Lunch on Wall Street (money needed)• 1300 Ground Zero and Memorial Park• 1600 Return to hotel by subway• 1830 Dinner at Macy’s (included)• 2030 Empire State Building (wear warm clothes)

•  • 0800 Breakfast at Mustang Harry• 0900 Check out of hotel and store luggage• 0930 Talk from member of NY Republicans (TBC)• 1100 Free time and lunch (money needed)• 1400 Pick up luggage from hotel• 1430 Coach to Washington DC• 1730 Arrive at Harrington Hotel – unpack• 1900 Orientation walk followed by dinner at

‘Harry’s Bar’ (included)

ITINERARY DAY 5WEDNESDAY 1ST APRIL

• 0800 Breakfast at hotel • 1000 ‘Duck Tour’ of Washington • 1130 War memorials, Lincoln Memorial and

Washington Monument • 1230 Lunch (money needed) • 1400 Museums (Students will have a choice from:

Museum of National History, Holocaust Museum, Museum of Art, Science

Museum) • 1630 Return to hotel • 1830 Washington Wizards basketball game (dinner

at venue included)

ITINERARY DAY 6THURSDAY 2ND APRIL

• 0730 Breakfast• 0830 Check out of hotel and store bags• 0900 Arlington Cemetery• 1200 Lunch and free time (money needed)• 1600 Ford Theatre• 1700 Arrive at hotel to collect bags and change• 1730 Leave hotel on coach to airport • 1845 Check in at airport (money needed for snack)• 2145 Flight UA924 depart Washington Dulles (Dinner

and breakfast served on the plane)

ITINERARY DAY 7FRIDAY 3RD APRIL

•  • 1015 arrive LHR • 1430 (approx.) minibus arrive at SHS (money

needed for lunch at services en route)

BEHAVIOUR

• No alcohol, smoking, drugs• Always stay in groups of a minimum of 3• No going out of hotel at night without a member

of staff• Courtesy to other passengers on the plane and

guests in the hotel• A serious offence may result in a student being

sent home at their parents’ expense
