Corruption ??? Dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power , typically involving bribery.Corruption to a nation is like a virus to a computer system. Corruption acts as a slow poison.

CorruptionOnly factor for India still being a developing country??? Corruption is the root cause for India being a developing country. Other problems such as poverty , unemployment , malnutrition can be solved if the problem of corruption is solved. India holds second place in terms of population . Generally it is believed that huge population might be the reason for India being a developing nation , which is not true.

Image showing the degree of corruption of all the nations in the World.

Continued If we take population as a factor of not being developed , then Somalia of Africa which is less populous is the most corrupted nation of the world. India stands 76 out of the 168 nations of the world in Corruption perception index with a score of 38 out of 100 , which was the same as previous year score without any improvement. But Pakistan has improved its score by a count of one .

Types of Corruption: Corruption can be classified into two types : Corruption by the government bodies involving the corporate sectors. Bribes given by the individual.

What causes Corruption??? It is believed that corruption evolved right from the origin of mankind. Every individual either directly or indirectly involved in the corruption . Right from the bus conductor who takes money and does not give any ticket to the motorist who bribes the policeman instead of paying the challan . Misuse of power by the government officials . Rather than serving their onus the officials focus on earning income from the people.

Continued Politicians knows that how to get away with the laws against the corruption. Reason corruption exist because we let them exist. Corruption became the way of life(Time saving factor). Laws made by the government are not enough to stop the corruption. Corruption in a way leads to convenience.(As long as jobs are being done we do not revoke against it)

Continued. Government procedures are so complicated and complex that people opt to pay bribes in order to get their jobs done . Greediness and discontent (Money and Power). Recklessness in youth , no participation or interest in politics.

Bar diagram of Indias ranking in corruption:

Major scams that occurred during and after 2008: Indias coal allocation scam. 2G spectrum scam. Commonwealth Games scam.

2G spectrum scam(1,76,000 crore): The scam involved several government officials and politicians who undercharged mobile telephony companies for frequency license allocation which they used to create 2G spectrum subscriptions for cell phones. The licenses were sold on first come first service basis and at the same price during 2001. The supreme court of India found it unconstitutional and arbitrary . The court quashed all the 122 licenses issued by A.Raja.

Main Politicians accused in 2G scam:A.Raja is believed to have received Rs 3,000 crore as bribe to bring forward the cut-off date for applications for the spectrum from the initial October 1, 2007, to September 25, 2007 and subverting the government's first-come-first-served policy. The investigating agencies claim that he used bank accounts under his wife's name in Mauritius and Seychelles to channelize the kickbacks he received. He is charged with criminal breach of trust by a public servant, criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery. He was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act and was sent to Tihar jail on May 9, 2012. He was granted bail on May 15, 2012.

Main Politicians accused in 2G scam: Daughter of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi , Kanimozhi is a Rajya Sabha member and has a 20 per cent stake in her family-owned Kalaignar TV. The CBI alleges that Kanimozhi was an "active brain" behind the channel's operations and that she worked with A. Raja to get DB Realty promoter Shahid Balwa to circuitously route Rs 200 crore to Kalaignar TV. She is accused of criminal conspiracy to cause criminal breach of trust by a public servant, criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery. She was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and arrested on May 20, 2011 and was granted bail on November 28, 2012 after spending 188 days in judicial custody in Tihar jail . Several bureaucrats were also mentioned in the charge list submitted by the CBI.

Indias Coal allocation Scam(1,86,000 crore): The coal allocation scam, or Coalgate' as it is popularly known is a political scandal which revolves around allocation of country's coal deposits to public and private companies by the erstwhile UPA government. The scam came to fore after the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) accused the government of India for allocating 194 coal blocks in an inefficient manner during the period 2004-2009 which resulted in a huge loss to the public exchequer. As per reports, 194 blocks were allotted to various companies, out of which nearly 15 blocks that were given to private players did not even start production till 2011. Revealing that the government did not receive any revenue from the above coal block allocation, the parliamentary standing committee report in April 2013 said that all allocations done from 1993 were done in a non-transparent manner.

Ministers dragged in Coalgate controversy: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, who held the coal ministry portfolio briefly in 2004 and then for almost five years between 2007 and 2012. Others who were dragged into the controversy were ministers of state for coal like Dasari Narayan Rao(Director- Tollywood ), Santosh Bagodia, cabinet minister Shibu Soren.

Commonwealth Games scam(70,000 crore): The Commonwealth Games scam was a well known scam occurred in New Delhi(2010) , the main accused being Suresh Kalmadi , the chairman of chief organising committee of CWG. According to the reports of Shunglu committee and from the office of Comptroller and Auditor general , the then CM of Delhi , Sheila Dixit was also charged with number of fraud and irregularities involved in the CWG.

Consequences of Corruption:

How can we solve this problem of Corruption???Blame game is very often in India. So instead of always blaming the government we need to have the change in the individuals.Instead of making the new laws the existing laws should be made more stringent and strengthened. Ensuring the social awareness among the people. Instead of lighting candles at the India gate we need to enlighten ourselves first.

Medias role in demolishing corruption:Media is an important part in exposing facts to the common man. Journalism has exposed my scams in our nation. Media can force the jurisdiction to take action against them by exposing them .Example : A 16 years old girl named raped by an MLA named Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi in Lakhimpurkheri in a village named Banda . The girl was gutsy and reported the inspector in the nearby police station. But under the political influence the girl was made vegetate in the jail for about a week . Then media exposed the fact and the girl got justice. The girl was so empowered that she started her own organisation named Naagins ,dressed in black , and helped the raped victims in the near by villages .

Measures to demolish corruption: The government procedure are so slow and complex that it would lead to death of individuals . Example: Death of two navy officers in Submarines. Justice delayed is similar to justice denied .So jurisdiction should excel its duties perfectly(Strengthening the judiciary system). Passing of Anti-Corruption bills.

Lokpal Bill---benifited whom the corrupted or the common man??? 48 years of await of Lokpal bill ensures only 40% of anti-corruption. If a person files a complain against a corrupted official and he is unable to prove then he is imposed a penalty of 1 lakh rupees or imprisonment of about 1 year. Ashok Khemka, IAS officer has been transferred 45 times due to his sincerity in his job.

Hypothesis: The reason behind passing of the lokpal bill might be the upcoming elections during that time . The passed bill does not ensure 100% anti-corruption ,it seems to be compromised bill . It can be put as betrayal of the people. If the Jan Lokpal is passed then huge menace like corruption can be demolished to a huge extent.

Conclusion: If the problem of corruption is solved then remaining problems can also be solved subsequently.
